HRHQoQ · 03/11/2005 23:55

Hmmm not too bad.

Just been reflecting on the last year, after much soul searching today we decided that we've got no option but to give up on the business, so as of 3 days ago GoAfrica is no longer trading .

We lasted a year - made just one sale LOL, and we're looking at it from the point of view that if we'd never tried, we'd alwasy have wondered "what if" (mind you with the benefit of hindsight we'd have a run a mile at the thought of it PMSL )

Other than that not too bad actually.

Flossam · 03/11/2005 23:57

Aw, how sweet!

Busy preparing for our party this weekend! Me, DP and ten people, DS and three other baby boys hopefully. Therefore cleaning house, biiiig shop (and I thought having a party would be easier and cheaper, pah!), making the chocolate malteaser thing I saw on here (wow, yummy!), and just generally thinking ahhh about MIL coming. Worked with a nurse yesterday who actually used to work with her in the city where I come from, most odd. Her face was a picture when I said who she was, trying to look neutral and failing miserably. When I admitted I wasn't keen she just kept using the word 'Scary!!' as in reference to MIL. It's good not to be alone!!

So how are you Huggy, and were you expecting someone to start spouting a load of rubbish at you like this?

HuggyBear · 03/11/2005 23:58

Awe im sorry about your buisness but you gave it your best shot and a years a long time to keep things up and running so you should be proud of yourself, theres not many people that would take a chance and its great that you did it!

What do you do with all your stock now?

My plaster came off my leg and Ive got to have an operation to fix it cus it hasn't mended correctly.
I've got a rather disgusting blue leg brace to wear and am back on the crutches

Only bonus is I can scrtach to my hearts content now without having to find a knitting needleand DH is back to waiting on me hand and foot

HRHQoQ · 04/11/2005 00:01

qoq, [happy] lth, jm (knitting needles down plaster

Huggy, it's my first party as DS is one and I've never had one before. Probably have brought faaar too much food, but have only ever cooked a meal for 4 people, DP is anally retentive about tidying so I shall just let him get upset about it

HuggyBear · 04/11/2005 00:09

We went way over the top for ds1s first birthday but luckily i had mother-in-law buying and cooking all the food so it was ok - although she did tell everyone who was there thats she had bought/cooked/organised the whole thing, but for all her effort it seemed like a fair exchange so i just nodded and smiled sweetly

Huggy - next priority is to pay off all the debts we've arrcured over the last year.....only about 35k in total................. !

We've both got jobs now (well I'm still waiting for the CRB thing before I can start but it won't be long - I hope) and CAB have helped us work out what we can afford to pay to who so we can see light somewhere in the distance of the tunnel ).

Other than that - next things are DH's birthday, DS2's 2nd birthday, our wedding anniversary, Christmas, ...... etc etc etc

oh and the firework display at DS's school tomorrow night - I'm taking both boys (DH will be working) - cost me £5.50 but I'll be damned if I'm stopping doing everything with the boys (especially as CAB reckons we need at least £300 for food and housekeeping money.......when I've been surviving on £30 a week, and was hoping to up it to £50 once money was more settled!)

HuggyBear · 04/11/2005 00:14

wow at 35k, it sounds like you have things pretty sorted though, i have no idea what a CRB is though DH usually does everything with money i just spend it

I am in a really strange mood tonight, can you tell lol

OP posts:
HuggyBear · 04/11/2005 00:18

How do you manage to be so bright about it QOQ, i mean it must have been horrible having all that stress, like that yukky sick feeling inside, but you always look to the positive and work around it

OP posts:
HRHQoQ · 04/11/2005 00:54

Oh I do have my very down moments, but like most things in life, I figure there's no point getting too stressed out over it long term, as that way you never have a chance of getting on top of things.

CRB - Criminal Records Bureau - for my enhances disclosure

jabberwocky · 04/11/2005 01:13

Hi, Huggy, doing well here. Had a great session with my new therapist today. I'm doing cognitive behavioral therapy for the whole birth trauma thing and it is helping so much. She encouraged me to continue working with Yemaya, who I told you about on another thread. So, I've made a little Yemaya image to put up for meditation in order to get a little help with taking on too many burdens, so to speak. Feeling really good about most things, although I'm still working carefully on dh about 2nd baby...He's a bit hesitant still.

eidsvold · 04/11/2005 07:17

feeling good today - had a good day. Dd1 attended her therapy group today and did really well. Sometimes she goes and hardly talks or does anything I know darn well she can do - and I feel such a fraud saying to her ot, physio etc that she can BUT today - she was very verbal and did really well. Especially proud of her as there was another child who is part of the gropu there who was just pelting stuff around the room and generally running amok. I had to try and be calm but when he raked my face with his fingers - I held his hand and told him to be gentle and then did the sign for gentle with his hand - did get a little frustrated with the parent for not telling him off - I would have been mortified if it was dd1.

Anyway - generally a good day - dh is home from work early - we have moved some furniture downstairs in preparation for sanding and polishing our floors and he is having quality daddy and daughter time and I am having some time out on mumsnet.

Flossam - your ds is 1 - I thought it was soon - dd2 is one soon too. Hasn't the year gone fast. We are taking her to a theme park and to the beach for her birthday and then having a little afternoon tea with some friends.

HuggyBear · 04/11/2005 14:21

OP posts:
spidermama · 04/11/2005 14:30

I'm ill at the moment.

This is my second day with a temperature. DH was great and did everything yesterday (he's not working 'il Saturday night) but today he's losing sympathy so I might have to do something. (Groan).

DH is leaving on a jet plane on Saturday til Wednsesday so I absolutely have to be better.

These are the parenting lows for me. We have no family around who could come and help out, all my friends are busy with kids of their own but I have four young kids so the show must go on.
