....What names were you tempted to choose for your own children which you reluctantly discarded because you knew it was wrong to name your children solely for your own entertainment, and also because you thought they might get the piss taken out of them or be considered pretentious?

Mine were

Fidel
Vladimir
Padraig
Jesus

read a story in the paper today about a mum who abandoned her babies to go to scarborough with her boyfriend. the girl was called 'destiny' i think thats child abuse in itself

Em32 · 04/11/2005 13:23

Travesty or Clamydia

DH wanted India. I said what about Ribena then. Way too pretentious for me, although sounds nice. I like Flora but a) it is a marge and b) analogies with spreading kept being commented on..... bit sad that I thought.

Em32 · 04/11/2005 13:24

Soopermum My friend used to work for social services, there were three children adopted from one family who were all called after big cats. Tiger, puma and panther or something. SS changed their names........

desperatehousewife · 04/11/2005 13:27

My 3 year old DS wants to call his baby brother (not yet born) Perigrin. God help me!

Travesty! Love it.

Blandmum · 04/11/2005 15:18

slapheadsrock (great name btw!)

I also like Aneurin but once worked where a mum used to yell across the playround 'Nye Rin, come here you little bastard' and for some strange reason that put me off the name!

Marina · 04/11/2005 15:18

Badger. I still like it!

MamaG · 04/11/2005 17:17

At playgroup today there were:-

Cain
Willis (what you talkin about Willis )
Leyana
Shannon

And two little boys with "normal" names - Ethan & Charlie.

Not telling you which one's my DS's name....!

highlander · 04/11/2005 18:57

I seriously considered Maple as DS's middle name cos he was born in Canada

jalopy · 04/11/2005 19:03

I knew a girl called Mignon. Isn't that 'steak' in french?

Very late to this thread (well, late back anyway...)

fisil - am intrigued to know which of the names I mentioned belong to your ds! I have never met a Finnian but love the name (and like it shortened to Finn too). If the next one is a boy I may try and persuade dh again...

And one of my dds has one of the names on your shortlist too....

fisil · 04/11/2005 20:43

You got it, Miaou! Not with a double n, though. I've never met one, either (well, apart from ds1, who I spend quite a bit of time with). We don't shorten his name at the moment, maybe we will as he gets older (I like Finn, and someone at nursery calls him Finni, which I really like)

deany · 04/11/2005 21:21

Tarantula just wanted to say I love the name Caoimhe, I met a lovely girl with that name when I went to Malaysia with work and I mentioned it to my dh and he was like no way, but I loved it still do actually but when dd was born had a total mind block and dh ended up naming our dd Jessica, which I also love.

fullmoonfiend · 04/11/2005 21:29

For the girl - whICH i NEVER HAD/NEVER WILL HAVE:
Rowan
Tallis
Willow
Eve
Seren (welsh for star)
Hebzibah (well, prob not, but as this is pure fantasy.. }

Boy:
Finn (but my eldest was sooo big, thought he'd end up as Fat Finn. Plus when he was born, just didn't suit him [grin)
Ivan
Oscar and Felix (Dh said were 'cat' names
Oak (again, wouldn't be that cruel, but...)

teeavee · 04/11/2005 21:31

teeavee · 04/11/2005 21:32

spidermama · 04/11/2005 21:36

teeavee · 04/11/2005 21:37

spidermama · 04/11/2005 21:38
