Well Archie in Monarch of the Glen was quite nice maybe that helped

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 19:52

Ooops spelt that wrong sorry, in a hurry cos I have to get Isobel out of the bath! Archie Archer!

moondog · 28/10/2005 19:52

Plenty of those where I'm from Caligula!

I think a name is picked up,gets overused is then dropped, only to be picked up and so on.....

Hence the plethora of names that I associate with my grandmothers and their mates-Harriette Alfie Jack Grace.

Still waiting for Ethel Percy and Walter to rear their heads though...

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 19:53

My hubby is an Andrew but you can't call him that, it's always been Andy. When I was pregnant with Isobel we thought we were having a boy and Ethan was on the top of our list of boys names.

twirlaround · 28/10/2005 19:54

Ptolemy

tegan · 28/10/2005 19:54

Loads of Jack's around.
I was informed (by mil)when pg with dd1 that if I had a girl she had to be called Grace Evelyn after dh's nans but both names are quite common now.

princesspeahead · 28/10/2005 19:56

I know of a little boy called sage.
awful.

skinnycow · 28/10/2005 19:58

My friend wanted to call her dd1 Elsie

ghoulgrrl · 28/10/2005 20:01

ok, I'll out myself as having saddled two of my three children with exotic names, too - ds is called Maximus (but we use Max), dd2 is called Katarina (slightly adapted German version of Catherine, I'm German so that's ok ). We regret Katarina's choice of name though. Nobody over here gets it right it seems, should have gone for something shorter. I guess we could call her Kitty or something along those lines, but it would feel weird to suddenly call her a different name.

tegan · 28/10/2005 20:01

It's strange how amany names are unisex now

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:06

We call our Katherine 'Kate' quite often now, but she is 13!
Catherine spelt with a C is the french version apparently.

dinny · 28/10/2005 20:12

If I had another baby and it was a girl I'd call her Loveday. really really like it and it's one of my grandmother's names (she is Violet Loveday).

did pmsl when (seriously!) heard a woman in park shout out "Cain! Abel!" at twins of about 18 months. Nice!!!!!

my full name is very unusual - very old French family name. not many people call me it though, always shortened version. most people mispronounce it anyway.

Twins - Solomon and Sesame.
(god, hope she doesn't read this. Very attractive children btw!)

hana · 28/10/2005 20:16

I know a woman called Tuesday -

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:20

There was a lady at our church called Liana, her sister is called Lacey!

spidermama · 28/10/2005 20:20

I wonder if she was born on a Tuesday. I know a girl called Wednesday. I was puzzled at first but it has really grown on me. It helps that she's such a lovely girl.

aloha · 28/10/2005 20:23

I like Digby....but he was the biggest dog in the world.
Really like Calypso.

spidermama · 28/10/2005 20:23

Speaking of Viz, as some of us were earlier in the thread, I had to point out to someone very close to me the possible implications of calling her baby boy Sanchez.

I'm not an avid reader so I didn't know about this but when I mentioned the name dh and the other grown man who was in the room at the time both spluttered on their tea in alarm.

I had to tell her.

bossykate · 28/10/2005 20:24

i couldn't possibly comment! i have quite strict views about names which would probably offend too many people!

spidermama · 28/10/2005 20:24

What's wrong with Solomon by the way? I think that's a fairly normal name isn't it? Yet it has appeared on here as an 'I-kid-you-not' name.

Witchycat · 28/10/2005 20:25

Hana - I know a Tuesday as well. Is your Tuesday in Bradford?

My friend's boy is Wilfred but I've got used to 'Wilf' now. It kind of suits him.

moondog · 28/10/2005 20:25

Og go on bossykate!!
That's half the fun!!
