How old was everyone when they had their forst baby?
I was 20 years old, and even though im a 21 year old mom i still get ridiculed but young moms have been around since the beginning of time, so why is everyone so judgemental nowadays? i understand there are alot of careless too young moms, but some moms arnt! how old were you and did you get ridiculed made to feel uncomfortable because of your age or lifestyle?!

I was 29 and worried I was going to be an old mum. infact I was in the middle of my antenatal group. No ive never been ridiculed. my mum was a young mum, she had me at 16 and I loved the fact that she was!

eidsvold · 26/10/2005 22:54

I was a month off 34.. and was called a geriatric mother

spookylucy · 26/10/2005 22:54

I was 33. Often wish I had been your age as I might have a bit more energy. Don't listen to them.

spookylucy · 26/10/2005 22:56

or even two, im so old im nodding off as i type

QueenVictoria · 26/10/2005 22:56

Was hoping i was still going to be 26 with my first but ended up being 27+3wks.

Had my 2nd at 29 this year.

Hulababy · 26/10/2005 22:58

I had my first and only baby at age 29. No comments here either - was "normal" age for the antenatal group, and for my firends. Had planned it to be 2 or 3 years earlier though.

I was 22 with first and 24 with second son. I have fertility problems and knew about them so was keen to get started in case it would take years. It did take two before fell pregnant...naively started trying when I was 20 and dh was 25....we'd been married for 2 years at this point. I was just worried we wouldn't beable to have kids at all and would need to adopt or foster. Took two years for first ds and a year for 2nd ds. Little lovable goblins they are

Blossomhowl · 26/10/2005 23:03

23 yrs old

Spatz · 26/10/2005 23:03

35 - yippee the oldest so far!
now 39 and thinking about my 3rd.
I do think I'd have had much more energy if I'd started younger.

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 26/10/2005 23:15

21 (3 wks short of 22) when i had Jessica
23 when i had Rebecca

feel frowned upon more for the small age gap more than anything (15 months)

Trickorflum · 26/10/2005 23:19

I was 31.

I think it is much much healthier to have children when you are in your late teens and early 20's. Medically the healthiest age is 19.

I get tired looking after dd and I'm sure if I was in my 20's I'd get less tired.

Having said that dragging a baby round with me when I was larging it up on the Greek Islands as holiday rep and doing winter ski seasons in my 20s would have somewhat cramped my style so I'm glad I waited. I had a good innings and didn't miss out on my youth. Just managed to have baby before the trickier time of late 30s. Feel I have had best of both worlds.

smug and hugely irritating smile.

WigWamBam · 26/10/2005 23:22

I was 38, and far more laid back and patient than I would have been in my 20s!

Whatever age you are, there will always be someone who thinks you were either too young or too old. Take no notice - you know you're doing a fab job, and that's all that matters.

nooka · 26/10/2005 23:22

I was 28, which was the average age for that year. Had second at 29. In my NCT groups I am the youngest by quite a few years. My parents ex-next door neighbour had her first at 56! A menopause suprise.

BadHair · 26/10/2005 23:24

I was 29, but only just. I was one of the youngest in my ante-natal class in W London. I was 31 when I had ds2 but had moved to N Shropshire, and was told I was an "older mother" by my midwife! Average age here is 20, so I'm told.

polly28 · 26/10/2005 23:26

was 29 when I had dd,then 40 when I had ds,3 years ago.

There are benefits to both,I would recommend my dd to have kids in her 20's as you get your life back when you're 40. There are so many variables though.I have more financially than in my 20'sbut less energy,it's all swings and roundabouts.I think we're lucky to have them at any age,god it took me ten years to have ds! I may be knackered but he is a blessing. Thats my mantra when he's being a little bugger

I've done both too, had ds when I was 19, and my fourth -last!- is due dece when i will be 33.
I have to say tis easier later on, with more money and poss more rational thoughts (thats just me btw, not everyone!)but love the fact i will still be 'young' enough to have a great time when all children ahve left home.
still feel abit judged poss when i'm the youngest at ds's parents evenings etc by a mile, but am getting to the 'stuff 'em' mentality by now. and they are only envious
yes, in answer to your question everyone oh everyone, drs esp, thought i was too young at 19. so do I now looking back,if i'm 100% honest, but wouldnt be told then.
you just do the best by your baby, maddysonsmomm, and ignore any silly comments or looks.
