I need inspiration - what shall I make for tea? Don't want anything with chicken or red meat because I've no time to go to the butchers and I'm not buying it in Tesco. What can I buy in Tesco for tea?

despite much teasing and 'parping' comments I love whats for dinner threads, need that inspiration sometimes to get out of rut dont you?

Gobbledispook · 11/10/2005 12:06

Absolutely dramaqueen - I think so!

Tomato garlic sauce sounds yum - what do I put in it though or do just plain with some parmesan on the top? I know dh will say 'where's the meat?'

You could try my favourite, Puttenesca sauce, tomatoes, onions, garlic, chillies and olives with pasta and lots of parmesan. And I always make garlic toast to go with it YUM!

Gobbledispook · 11/10/2005 12:13

Sounds yummy!

Well not much help to you because we are having stew - and its leftovers so very easy.

IKWYM about "where's the meat" comments although I find DH is getting better. I have come up with a new regime. Each week we have one meal with "expensive" meat, braising steak, chicken breasts, a chicken, a pot roast etc, one with cheap meat, sausage, bacon, mince etc and one vegetarian. I only cook 3/4 times a week so each meal has to last twice although if possible I freeze and use it later so that we are not having the same twice.

Mmm with tagliatelle, I made this thing with red pesto, yellow pepper etc out of Ainsley's meals in minutes the other week and it was lovely.

Tuna pasta

Fry off in olive oil some garlic, anchovies, white wine, capers and tin of (drained) toms. Add tin of tuna. Voila!

Or you could come round to my house at about 5.30pm and have the uneaten and untouched meals off dd1 and dd2 .

xx

dramaqueen72 · 11/10/2005 12:26

cheat totally tonight........buy cheese sauce, buy pasta, buy baco bits (funny crunchy bacony things in jar with salad dressings in tesco, incase you wondered!) cook pasta, heat sauce, chuck in baco bits. serve with crusty bread/salad. fabulous, you dont even thave to think about it til five minutes beforehand.

Rhubarb · 11/10/2005 12:32

bag of crisps and some Pepsi?

colditz · 11/10/2005 12:36

Yes, jar of cheese sauce, bag of quick cook macaroni....

Hey presto, Macaroni Cheese!

Serve with frozen veg for lessening of guilt (although personally I wouldn't feel remotely guity)

Gobbledispook · 11/10/2005 12:36

Oh Olive - don't! Ds1 didn't touch his tea last night. I was really mad at dh because I went out quickly to change a top at the Traff Centre and when I came back he'd given him cereal before bed. I'd said 'no tea, then nothing'.
