There are two spiders who live in our front and back gardens, like sentrys. I'm sure our bathroom window never see's the window cleaners shammy because of it. They're brown with stripy legs and a white zig zag pattern on they're seriously huge abdomen. About 50p piece across, maybe a bit bigger but really bulky (and scary).

Have they escaped from my bananas?

they are the guardians of your house - dream catchers and weavers. Don´t touch them they may wrap you up in their web and eat you when done.

Have you googled any pictures of spiders or perhaps the local library might have some excellent books on Arachno. Pity your ds is not older he would love it !

wilsony · 05/10/2005 15:36

Hmmm Id say that sounds like the getthefeckoutofthere spider....!!! Not liking the sound of those at all - do you live in Scotland? If so Im moving....!

Iklboo · 05/10/2005 15:39

They could be Wolf spiders. Native to britain, pretty common in gardens & completely harmless (aprt from the scare-the-living-crap-out-of-you way).

My 21 month ds has just learnt about spiders as there was a mama in our front room the other night.DH was scared to crap and muggins here had to trap it under a dish.

He now calls any type of fly, insect,"PIDER! PIDER!"-deffo got the heebeejeebee's off dh about them, as has a big look of shock on his boat!

Think he would run a mile at yours!

flamebat · 05/10/2005 16:17

I let DD watch Bugs Life, so now we have Pider, Fry and anything else is "bug" - bug drives me nuts.

I like the idea of them beign your guardians.

mandymac · 05/10/2005 16:36

DIT, I am also the spider catcher in our house - my big hairy macho hubby is scared to death of them - also, he calls them 'whimseys'??????? wtf! Its a family thing apparently. Still gets him out of clearing garage/shed out etc .

tarantula · 05/10/2005 16:39

Have to say dd 21 mnths loves spiders which is a good thing as we ahve one of these in our front room. You are all welcome to pop by and say hello to her if you like

monkeytrousers · 05/10/2005 16:46

Araneus diadematus or Larinioides sclopetarius I think Tarantula. The one in the back garden is bigger than the one in the front. And they are massive!

OP posts:
monkeytrousers · 05/10/2005 16:47

But not as big as yours!

OP posts:
tarantula · 05/10/2005 16:54

Not quite as big no but very pretty all the same. and great for keeping the flys and other insects away.

Furball · 05/10/2005 17:09

This it? If so its a garden or diadem spider

Papillon · 05/10/2005 17:25

MadameMorticiaMills · 06/10/2005 10:41

I might do, but I'm not coming anywhere near you if that spider is what I think it is.

I'm looking for this leaflet...Didn't you get one the last time you were there?
