What's the next "make MN unwelcoming" game going to be?

hunkermunker · 24/09/2005 13:05

We've had "out the troll" when a newbie posts.

We've had "PARP at the thread" when an oft-posted topic is posted again.

Anyone got any others?

i'm as guilty as the next person of this sometime, but i do try to watch myself on it: Rescuing.

if you try to rescue someone (particularly someone you don't know) you're making some very serious assumptions about their inability to defend themselves and conversely your ability to 'protect' them.

assuming that any newbie is going to crumple in the face of a parp is doing just that imo.

if we are all adults on here, then hopefully we can all speak up for ourselves, ignore things that annoy us, try not to get paranoid about stuff (i do get paranoid, but try not to let it totally stop me from speaking my mind).

mn is great because people are able to say what they think about a huge variety of things. if you think that cod is rude do say so, and have a scrap if needs be. but generally 'defending' people (people that you don't know from adam as well, for all you know they might be more than capable of saying for eg 'what's a parp' and choosing to ignore it) from a 'climate' of nastiness is just trying to big yourself up at the expense of the person you're accusing of being horrible imo.

Jimjams · 24/09/2005 18:32

When I've used parp I've meant it as "oh stop me going off on one and boring the tits off everyone (and myself) again" I thought parps were directed at ourselves- how can they be nasty. I'm sure that's the original meaning of a parp.

Rhubarb · 24/09/2005 18:35

Look, I came across this on the Net and thought it very appropriate for this thread, it's a story that is very deep and meaningful. Read it with tissus at the ready.

Caligula · 24/09/2005 18:38

That's how I've used it JJ.

puff · 24/09/2005 19:12

I'm with Jimjams (who as I said, made me cry with laughter at her hooting, whilst arguing her case admirably). Haven't seen your parping JJ, but suspect it is of the same high quality.

frannyf · 24/09/2005 19:34

Absolutely agawp at the sitcom guesser! It tool ages, but finally got Betty from Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. So glad I have been lurking on this thread now, made it all worth while

harpsichordcarrier · 24/09/2005 20:28

darn, too late to say the many deep and wise things I have to say on this thread - now you're all off on a frolic of your own.
can I just say though - Sophable, you are the voice of reason
jimjams - you too.
and I am new(ISH) and I feel extremely welcome. some people can be forthright that makes MN and RL interesting but like sophable says we are all grown ups.
you're all lovely. apart from the bitches you know who you are
and I think RTKangsmummy is quite possibly the nicest person I have ever come across...

hunkermunker · 24/09/2005 20:29

Not many game suggestions though

Nobody really got the hang of this thread

SherlockLGJ · 24/09/2005 20:30

No, but it certainly kept people busy on a Saturday afternoon.

hunkermunker · 24/09/2005 20:33

I know

Thanks for keeping me company while I was at work, guys

harpsichordcarrier · 24/09/2005 20:33

I liked the taking the piss out of chat names suggestion - plenty of mileage in that
e.g. hunkermunker - are you really a very bad mouse? like wearing a t-shirt saying "naughty" I suspect you're not REALLY bad at all
but a big old goody two shoes
right?

WigWamBam · 24/09/2005 20:34

Somebody start it ... you know you want to.

I wonder how many parps it would get
