TBH I've spent a damn site more on speech therapy (which should have been provided by the nhs) than I've received in free parking.

Misdee- the cost of hospital parking is shocking!

Yes we should charge disabled people extra for parking because they take up a lot of space with their big free cars. We should also deport all so-called asylum seekers, especially children, to countries where they will probably be raped and tortured, and as for free prescriptions for pregnant women, what a bloody liberty (to quote Catherine Tate). No more free wheelchairs or dentistry for kids either. Let's set aside more cash for war and then revel in what a truly lovely society we have created for ourselves.

I think hospitals should provide a pass for the patient to give to driver or visitor or use themselves when they have a chronic illness

and surrender when no longer required

hospital attendance and visitors obviuoly speeds up recovery and so would save money in the long term.

misdee · 19/09/2005 17:53

peter knew the bloke at the other hospital who did the ticket checking, was an old school teachers of ours and he gave peter a pass for the car poark so we didnt haveto pay at stevenage. was very handy.

SleepyJess · 19/09/2005 17:54

ive not read the entire thread, and dont actually know that much about it, but, im not sure why they should get free parking?

at a hospital, everyone goes for a reason. why should one persons illness grant them free parking, but another persons illness require them to pay to park? i mean, how id the decision made as to the cutoff point? who has the right to make that decision?

id like to hear the argument for this.

SleepyJess · 19/09/2005 18:01

Then read the thread Stitch and you will.

well I was browsing around there the other day, couldn't help but notice a few threads one topics we've discussed on here on recent weeks

I could just pretend that I couldn't resist sticking my oar in (and I've posted on my antenatal club yesterday so I have 'been around' there.....)

Oh please?????

mummyhill · 19/09/2005 18:01

Don't mind paying a reasonable amount to park at hospital but many trusts see it as a licence to print money which is daft. If I have to rush DD to hospital in an emergency I am not going to guarantee that i will remember to take anything other than keys and child! I am sure that many others are the same.

As for motability I am sure you have to pay for any damage to car and lose a percentage if not all other benefits for the privledge.

I agree that disabled persons should not have to pay for public transport which should be made more accessible however as with my friends son even if this were the case he would not be able to use public transport due to the fact that his imune system is practically none existant therefore their car is a lifeline.

It is unfair to expect a disabled person on a low income with no means of improving their earning potential to pay to park. Nor is it right the number of people I see parking in spaces designated for those with disability who haven't got the relevant badges on their vehicle that is plain selfish and is 100 times worse than the ignorant bods who park in parent and child spaces when they have no children with them.

Jimjams · 19/09/2005 18:01

oh someone cut and paste aloha's comment please. PMSL

Jimjams · 19/09/2005 18:03

can we have a link please ....

QueenOfQuotes · 19/09/2005 18:04

ooops

SleepyJess · 19/09/2005 18:05

Very true MH... with a Motability car you have to pay £70 excess each time you make a claim.. and you can only make 3 claims or else your car gets taken back!! When we lived on a dodgy council estate we used to get out our wing mirrors done over and the bodywork 'keyed' on an almost weekly basis.. and we just had to keep paying out for it to be repaired privately for fear of getting the car reclaimed. Sometimes the damage cost far more than £70 (like when some yob repeatedly slammed the roof with his fist because he couldn't get the wing mirror off.. an elderly neighbour witnessed this and called the police who arrived 2 hours later.. sigh!)

Definately should get free parking, as long as badge holder is in car! I know of a family where Mum is disabled & Teenagers take car (& badge out) to abuse free parking!

But as you get SOME people who will abuse anything, we have to ignore them & say of course disabled people should get free parking, bus pass & someone to ensure they receive every benefit possible (not officials who try & minimize them!)

SleepyJess · 19/09/2005 18:06
