We would have an income of between £13k and £23K pa and a lump sum of about £30k

Where could we go?
Could we afford to buy?
DH is 53 and has a health problem - I am 37 and with intermittent health - DD is 7 so education is important

We don't speak any languages - but would learn

But have no idea where to go - don't have to make a quick decision, so any MN ideas?

Daddycool, I loved your rant. On the websites that I've looked at they do all have a question on your ability to speak French and English, usually a maximum of 20 points (IIRC) for each language if you are fluent in both. Dh and I have basic French.

It's not the language that prevents us from getting in it's our jobs. Dh's job isn't in demand and in my job I don't have a college qualification. I started my job and got trained along the way, for exactly the same job in Canada I'd have to have a college qualification. they don't seem to take life experience and on the job training into account sadly.

hi katy
there are black people living in country areas as well as towns, which is not that common in UK. I think being black is not worse than being English! There will always be some racists and some nice people. the advantage of France, is that the racists are upfront and open about being racist, so you know where you stand with everyone.

Weve had a few problems ourselves. dx has been called salle arabe (he isnt arab), and he insulted the guy (jewish) straight back salle juif.. cough... when in Rome do as the romans do I say...
