Does your house have a name rather than a number? What can I call my new house?

We are moving next month to a brand new house and we want to give it a name as its on a small 'court' where two of the other 5 houses already have names.

Does your house have a name and if it does, how did you arrive at that name?

I've been trying to think of a name which includes DD's and DS's names, but they are both short names and I can't come up with antthing DH likes!

Not Cowbridge, not sure when she lived here but I suspect it was quite a while ago (perhaps before she was worth the fortune I suspect she is worth now). Not sure if it was pink when she lived there but its very pink now!

We live in Wales and many moons ago I was an estate agent. One of the houses I sold was calle Llamedos which looks like a Welsh name, but read it backwards!

bonym · 14/09/2005 17:56

Our house is simply number eight, but many of the cottages in our row have names as they're rather ancient. I'd probably call it something more sensible if I actually could (it's rented) but I always fancy calling it punnet (ie place where the peaches are). DH wants to call it la Peche.

Don't think they knew though!

teeavee · 15/09/2005 14:01

Liverpool supporters in a certain town in N wales called their house Anfield

NomDePlume · 15/09/2005 14:04

I have to say that you have to be VERY careful when it comes to naming houses. You can so easily end up with something hideously naff, twee or just plain inappropriate for the property. It's a bit of a minefield.

fwiw, I'd avoid the joining of 2 names idea like the plague.

teeavee · 15/09/2005 14:06

NdP, didn't have the guts to say it, but I totally agree!!!

NomDePlume · 15/09/2005 14:06

The funniest one I ever saw was 'Pogs Hovel', a little miners cottage in Wales. Made me smile.

charliecat · 16/09/2005 16:25

Has anyone mentioned Mucking Fuddle?

Milliways · 16/09/2005 16:43

Our house has the name it had when we bought it. I would like to change it but as no houses have number on this road it would be like moving again! New Licences, bills, bank statements etc. Also, our side of the road is in one school catchment, the other side in another! I deffo don't want to muck up DS (Yr6) school tfr by our house getting lost!
