Siamo qua!

We had to do that when we got married and had the 2 dds baptised. The prete was moved into an adjacent mini parish as we have so many churches here !
Ebay my one with the most feedback is Italy . I did re register once with a Uk address but I think I have a feedback for about 3 items on it as I only used when they would only sell to Uk buyers. Will have a look ...

eurocommuter · 24/10/2010 16:33

Glad I'm not he only one who's gone 'crazy' with Boden this week. Mind you did an order for DS just 2 weeks ago. Where did you get the 15% discount fom. I only had the 10% on top of catch of the day. I have to keep my eye out for these things. One of my orders had 2 hats and 3 caots for £119. But then, if I had to buy only one coat of simlar quality here, it would have cost around that.

Oh dear Catecheism. Is it that time already? What age do they need to start? Our parish priest isn't the most flexible. He baptised dh and now dc. But when it came to getting married, we went to a diferent priest nearby. 1. He would let us get married in the church that we liked. ( in the same town but not hos parish area). 2. I asked if my dad could get involved in the mass by giving an English sermon ( for my guest's benefit) he said no because Aglican Vicars can not do that in Catholic Church. The other priest in the church we married was fine with it and Dad was very happy to have given a Sermon at my wedding and my guests had something in the Mass that they understood. DH just ignores his 'backwardness' for everything else. I dont know what we will do with catecheism tho. Need to start that discussion i suppose.

Rosa no back in Italy. Have had The boden delevered to Italy as couldn't be bothered with carrying them over here. Mind you, my trolly case is filled with Wheatabix, Cheddar, tea etc.

I need to do the ebay thing, but the time to sort it out.

Buch, That is such a natural thing to ask. How else would you know if wverything was okay. Well DS would never volunteer information without a prompt of 'how was school'? Let us how it goes if you do stop asking.

Sputnik · 24/10/2010 20:27

I seem to remember something about having to wait for incoming feedback before Paypal would give me my money, is that the problem Rosa?
Was looking at the boden site last week, but didn't order anything, I'm still waiting for my 25% off day stuff, which I chased for ages and apparently it was sent back to them, pah. The postal service in Rome is pretty crap, was way better in the sticks. My MIL recently got a racommandata 2 years late Shock.

Priests, I used to know one who belted out Bandiera Rossa on a frequent basis, he was fun and very active in the community. I am a total athiest though so none of this catechismo stuff applies to us, thankfully.

Francagoestohollywood · 24/10/2010 20:58

Ciao Smile

Sputnik, I had the IKEA magnetic board, but it was a bit dodgy, the magnets kept slipping off. Perhaps it was a faulty one Shock

I remember Ferrara's show about sex, but couldn't bring myself watching it.

Great to hear about Amazon, I have a wish list of about 20 pages... but I can't buy anything more this month... I only recently went wild in the Petit Bateau shop, plus I've just paid the first rata of the dc's school dinners... Hmm. Amazon will have to wait till november methinks.

Catechismo: some children start in seconda elementare, others in terza, it depends on the parrocchia. But our children aren't even baptized as we are atheists, so no catechismo for us. The dc do RE at school though (you can do "ora alternativa" instead}, mainly because ds felt very Christian after 1 yr of CofE school in the UK Smile

Awwww girls, we went to a 40 yrs party yesterday night, we had lots of fun and we danced a lot, especially to Grin

Sputnik · 25/10/2010 11:23

Great song, but had forgotten the cheesy video!
Some items in my Amazon basket date back to 2005!
Speaking of religion I totally messed up the other day when DD asked me what God was, I was trying to explain (for my athiest's standpoint), that he was a bit like Father Christmas, in that he didn't exist, when I suddenly realised what I'd just said. Oops. She didn't comment but I very much doubt that slipped under her radar as she notices everthing and files it away for future use. We'll see what happens when Father Christmas is next mentioned...

BananaGio · 25/10/2010 11:48

great track Franca! Ah I love dancing to cheesy tunes.
oops and Grin re Father Christmas Sput!
No baptism here either. I am catholic (of sorts) but DP strongly not religious and I dont feel strongly enough re baptism (ie not at all really) to push it.
Whenever I ask ds re school and what he's done he replies "i dont remember"- Every day! Interesting what the teacher said Buch, perhaps same with ds.
Great news re Amazon!

Sputnik · 25/10/2010 11:53

DD hardly ever gives me a proper answer if I ask her what she did at school, but often will start talking about it on her own, at dinner or whatever.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/10/2010 12:09

Whoops about Father Christmas Sputnik Grin... I have already come clean with ds on the subject of Tooth Fairies. Last month, while we were on the tram, going to the swimming pool, he started to grill me about the existence of FC Hmm... not the best moment to have that convo! I told him that if you believe in him then it exist Hmm. But it was enough for him.

Best advise I ever had, when ds started reception in the UK, was to wait a bit before asking how was school, and always ask specific questions.

Ds has a few mates at school who tell e v e r y t h i n g to their parents, even what colour were the teachers' socks... mine aren't like that.

Rosa · 25/10/2010 12:57

DD1 is really into FC this year the magic is just wonderful I am so excited for her. Minrosa will probably pull the tree down ,unwrap everyone elses presents and then play with the boxes.
I am CofE DH Catholic we got married in a catholic church and vowed to bring children up in the catholic system ( part of standard wedding). I went to a Cof E school and we had lots of other religions / cultures. Some kids were so nasty when these children did not come to chapel or did alternative RE that I decided to go with the flow here. I just want the dds to be aware and to respect other religions and beliefs and then they can form hopefully their own thoughts when they are older. We will not be ramming it down throats but going with the flow !( I hope)

minervaitalica · 25/10/2010 14:14

No baptism here either - I distanced myself from the Catholic church a few years ago, and DH is an atheist. Not a problem at the moment but I feel DD will be under (peer) pressure to go to catechismo when she is at school (we live in a small village and I reckon vast majority of her peers are baptised).

I think DD still too young to understand FC - but I am sure she will still enjoy the bike he is going to bring her!

Spent the weekend in Ferrara - lots of cappellacci al ragù, ravioli al taleggio, salama da sugo e pasticcio ferrarese. Trousers feel tight today. It was good fun though...

Francagoestohollywood · 25/10/2010 14:44

Ferrara is a beautiful town, and the food is amazing.

It is lovely when they are old enough to get all enthusiastic about Christmas.

Bucharest · 25/10/2010 18:22

It's wonderful when they get Christmas...I love it so much, am dreading her no longer believing, will be the loon mother who carries on making her!

I'm totally a bit meh about religion really- which has worked out well, because dp is very Catholic (as you'll remember from all the books I have t buy him at Christmas on various Popes and Saints and what have you. It's not religion as in faith I have issues with (I'd quite like there to be something beyond all this) it' The Church and its bullyboys I object to (all churches) (and I'm always making my older students read a fab article from Time magazine asking where exactly all the millions went that Madre Teresa collected on her travels

I do like the community aspect of the "parrochia" when it's done in the proper (for me) spirit of the thing. I agreed to go the whole Catholic hog with dd because it was so important for dp, (though his promise that he would be dealing with the catechism thing does not seem to be materialising...well, he comes too, but I've had to go every week so far, at least I meet up with my mummy-comitiva and we have a natter while the smalls are doing whatever they do.)

I'm 45 today Grin do I look it?

Just sent dp for my favourite pizza (bacon and formaggio francese, that well known Italian combo )

Bucharest · 25/10/2010 18:24

Ferrara is where my favourite poem is set "My Last Duchess" by Browning...have always wanted to visit because of that.

Have got bloody mushrooms soaking in the 10th change of water...wild mushrooms may be better tasting, but faffety faff.Dp's brother gets up at stupid o'clock to go and pick them then I spend days picking grit out of my teeth.

BananaGio · 25/10/2010 18:24

mmm your weekend sounds yummy Minerva. Rosa think same as you - want ds to able to make his own conclusions when he is older.
well have just had an experience with ds that made me thank God he is bilingual. In the middle of busy supermarket, left him at the end of the aisle with the basket while I went to get something. Next thing he is charging down the aisle bellowing at the top of his very loud voice - "Mamma these are for your up your bum bum vero" while brandishing a pack of Tampax Super! Was very glad he chose that time to speak English.............And am also now thinking maybe he is at the age where I need to close the bathroom door on him sometimes......

BananaGio · 25/10/2010 18:26

Happy birthday Buch!! And no way do you look a day over 30 Grin. Hope you get spoiled

OP posts:
Bucharest · 25/10/2010 18:29

Shock and Grin Gio, Likewise the same thanks that dd was bilingual and speaking in English in the loo at Bari airport when first she asked my "bottom was hairy" and then another time why there was red in the toilet.....

BananaGio · 25/10/2010 18:35

Grin at hairy bottom comments. DS is going through a stage of being obsessed with anything in the bottom region. He is constantly flopping his pisellino out and playing with it! The other day he came running into me in excitement saying "Mamma I have a magic willy- sometimes it's big and sometimes it's small" Shock. What to do Confused?

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 25/10/2010 20:32

Happy Birthday Bucharest Smile, I hope you enjoyed your pizza Smile

Well, guess who's been talking about Father Christmas the whole evening? Ds absolutely needs to know the truth about FC, as today a school mate of his told all of them that he believes FC doesn't exist.
Ds wants the truth, but it is obvious he still wants to believe. I find it very hard to tell him lies, and he kept saying that he needs certainties... It was hard. He still believes...

Grin at up your bum bum and general loo curiosity.

In Ferrara is based one of my fav novel and movie: Il giardino dei Finzi Contini.

Sputnik · 25/10/2010 20:46

Last year we did DD one of those personalised Santa videos from the virtual north pole, she was thoroughly impressed, highly recommended!

BananaGio · 25/10/2010 20:50

ooh what are they Sput?

OP posts:
Sputnik · 25/10/2010 20:50

Oh yes, happy birthday Buch, you totally don't look 45, like me you look about 27 :)

Hope you don't get too much FC angst Franca, ikwym about lying to them. Hopefully he'll decide it might be better not to probe to deeply into these matters.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/10/2010 20:51

Oh yes, I'd say that no one on Little Italy looks older than 25 Smile

Sputnik · 25/10/2010 20:56

Someone on MN linked to it last year: portable north pole. Looks like it will be going this year too.

Sputnik · 25/10/2010 21:04

Yes we were actually boogying around to Culture Club and Soft Cell in the womb :o

BananaGio · 25/10/2010 21:04

fab! thanks for that. just found èthis which was recommended on mn, think will do that as well. Oooh am getting excited now. Will slaughter any child that puts the idea of FC not existing into DS's mind...Bless your ds saying he needs certainties Franca. ikwym re lying as well although am perfectly prepared to lie through my teeth to ds for the next few years to ensure I get to have my FC fun!
