My MIL has given me a Burberry golfing umbrella, in the Burberry check.

It's quite nice, but very Burberry. Whaddyareckon style gurus?

Burberry are probably very peed off that their product is being worn by all and sundry now - it used to be quite exclusive.

It might be naff but you'll be glad of it on a wet day
well maybe

myturn · 24/08/2005 14:36

As long as you are not matching it with Burberry hat, coat, dress, boots, pram, baby outfit, bag etc etc you should be ok.

I'm with the fishy one on this. I think an umbrella is ok, especially if it is being given. Not sure I would buy one through choice. But matching pushchair and bikini a la Daniella Westbrook is definitely NOT ok.

It would be fine if you were 60+

Rowlers · 24/08/2005 14:38

As long as it's not a cap worn with a cream shell suit, I think you'll get away with it.

JoolsToo · 24/08/2005 14:38

phew!

lemonice · 24/08/2005 14:39

I have a classic fawn burberry raincoat double breasted with belt with the check lining which used to belong to my mum, must be at least twenty years old...not chav at all...babygro with burberry feet and trim, quite different... so I vote rainwear OK

I remember Burberry being terribly naff about 20 years ago. I had a friend who had a burberry bed, which caused great hilarity. She used to wear a burberry mac as well, and have the umbrella and scarf.

babyonboard · 24/08/2005 15:02

It all depends on what you plan to wear with it..if you go out in a tracksuit then no..but wth a stylish outfit you will avoid looking 'chav'
I took part in market research for burberry last year, and they were obviously concerned with finding out the extent to which their brand had been tarnished by such associations, and football hooligans etc.

snafu · 24/08/2005 15:14

Umbrella is fine. I have one - years old though, so not chav-tainted.

expatinscotland · 24/08/2005 15:15

I never realised it was chav till I moved here. People in the States are really proud of their Burberry handbags and totes and they cost a mint.
