Tea Room the Twelfth

Come in, come in, to Tea Room the Twelfth! We now inhabit a rambling log cabin, surrounded by mysterious pine forests and mist-covered mountains (but also, strangely) easily accessible by regulars, new-comers and passing bishops, ferried in by Mellors driving the troika. All the usual rules apply and all are welcome!

We have dual climate control, too. Its called His Window and My Window.

Oh dear, JM. Do you have facilities so that you can dunk clients in the shower before you have to attend to them? You could always burn the towels afterwards. (Eeugh)

So, who'd like some Bolly?

UniS · 24/01/2010 20:14

LOL at his n hers windows.

Amber- rugby photos or video?

Cat- I intended to send you Mellors with aroma therapy stuff, but seem to have forgoten to type the last bit. sorry. Mellors and aroma may have been nice I guess? At least it wasn't JMs customer with aroma.

JM- you are daft. but it WAS a good idea

NOt quite so much exercise from family uni today. Friends over for lunch and a short walk onto teh edge of teh moor in afternoon. boy asked fro bedtime stories early and was in bed by 6.45 tired out. I think I prefer him like this - physically tired- to when hes got bags of surplus energy and is bouncing off the walls cos hes not had enough exercise.

CMOTdibbler · 24/01/2010 20:45

Jm - what you need is Vicks vaporub - smear some round your nostrils, and all you will smell is that. Having a cold is an excellent excuse for doing this too, and it overcomes even the most terrible smell (personal experience here)

Dniece had her family 18th party yesterday, which was OK (apart from FIL getting drunk and wittering). Caught Dnieces boyfriend turning off his hearing aids to sit in blissfull silence(ish) while me, DS, and some of the teens were watching Ice Age with the subtitles on. At times like that, I envy him a little as the Daily Mailisms were penetrating through the house..

Good evening lovely tearoomers! I am back in dear ol' Blighty now, trying to recover from jet lag. Will try and cover all I have jsut read but will probably miss stuff, please forgive me

Catita - so about Kittenito's op situtation - bloody annoying! Hope it gets sorted soon

JM - you daft mare, you should never put neat essential oil on your skin unless it is lavender oil, NOTHING else! (Mind you, I am the dozy bint who put neat clove oil on my aching tooth, handily forgetting that the mouth is a liquid environmnent - my tongue, cheek and gums went numb so fast! I had to swill my mouth out with alcohol to remove it before everything got "burnt")

stillcrazy/madbad (?) - assuming it is you, interesting change! Any reason why? or just fancied a new moniker?

Amber - am also continually impressed at your huge range of knowledge and function - it is a privilege to "know" you and to have access to your advice and knowledge.

daisy - glad you're back!

everyone else - hope you're all well, have topped up PandaEis's hot chocolate jug and added a side jug of Baileys for interest - am going to bed shortly as I managed to eat something that seriously disagreed with me this lunchtime and still feel rubbish. Still not sure if it was the carrot and coriander soup (made with chicken stock) or the lamb sausages (with rusk in) but it caused mild breathing issues followed by nausea, acid reflux and sick headache - not a happy camper. It may have been the sausages after all as miniThumb hasn't been right since about 4pm either, and was complaining his tummy hurt - have never had a problem with Waitrose's lamb sausages before (but then have never bought the packet ones before either) - but miniThumb didn't have any soup, so it wouldn't have been that for him. Early night will hopefully get rid of all symptoms and we can start again tomorrow.

(The flight went fine, don't ask about the arrival at Heathrow - I bloody hate terminal 3!)

teafortwo · 25/01/2010 00:47

Waves at everyone -

Thumb - get well soon ! Look after you. xxx

I like your new name dress stillcrazy - I think a twirl is in order! I once considered changing my name to noisette (an espresso with a dash of milk that Parisians love, my dh's soul dog, a hazelnut and also means nutter) but I couldn't bring myself to do it because of this...

Catita -

RAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! Damn!!!!!!! Blast!!!!!! Bleeeerdy 'ell!!!And lots of bad words starting wuth sh, f and c !!! (shoe, fridge and caterpillers of course!!!)

What a really terrible time you've been having!

Catitainahatita · 25/01/2010 01:29

Hi all. Thanks for all the thoughts and good wishes. K is much better today. He had a nightmare last night, but he had forgotten about it in the morning.

I am happier too. The op has been rescheduled for 5 Feb and the Dr. has promised that this time the drip will go in once he is knocked out, so we can avoid a repeat of at least one of the traumas.

Now I just have to rschedule all my meetings/classes that I had cancelled for this week so that they are cancelled fot the week after his op.

Jacksmama · 25/01/2010 03:28

I am laughing my head off at tea's wish for an HBO special on my life... but also wondering why - it doesn't seem all that interesting to me... but maybe that's because I'm smack in the middle of it? Why, tea? Please explain so I don't have to worry all night .

As to the essential oils - yes it was a daft thing to do, and oh yes CMOT, I am definitely parking a bit of Vicks at work for future use... BUT - I don't know if it was the oil but when I woke up this morning, DH was still sick but my sore throat was gone. Hmmmm!!

Sadly, we don't have shower facilities at work. But even if we did, I don't really see how I could ask patients to use them. "Would you like to freshen up before your treatment?" probably wouldn't go over very well...

Catita, I'm glad the op was rescheduled quickly. Hope it goes much better next time!!

Thumb, I missed it, how come you're in England? Booooooo re your upset tummy though. Hope you feel better soon!

amberlight · 25/01/2010 09:25

Soothing drinks available for those in need of waking up/settling their stomachs/calming down from rude hospitals/othern events du jour.

It's Monday. Urk.

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 25/01/2010 09:37

Urk indeed.

UniS · 25/01/2010 11:50

Stitch n bitch at village tea room this afternoon, I shall be thinking of you guys.

CMOTdibbler · 25/01/2010 17:00

If I could knit, I'd love to go to a stitch n bitch. Alas, am stuck in Germany tonight, having got up at 'eeeeurrrk o'clock' this morning which was not pleasant

daisy99divine · 25/01/2010 17:19

would like to stitch and bitch
can't knit but could just come and waft my needles around and gossip

Catita missed Kittenio saga via deletion but gather All Was Not Well and op was cancelled so hope you are better

Draining dregs of pinot gigglio and opening some merlot for you all

It must be someone elses go now woman! AHHH thanks Mellors

UniS · 25/01/2010 18:44

knitting is HARD. so many things to not drop, and so many things to go under through round under and over etc.... took a lot of concentration but I was getting somewhere by the time I needed to go and get boy from preschool.

Now i think its my turn for a back rub please mellors.

Thanks for the MIka video the other night. Boy spent a happy few mins watching mica vids on youtube this morning...

mistlethrush · 25/01/2010 21:06

As long I'm in just one colour and not doing cable, I can knit with only about 5% of my concentration going on it.... I found that, for my 1st degree I could revise by reading a book, knitting and listening to Radio3... . Must start knitting ds a jumper for next autumn....

JM - I have a friend who is a gynacologist.... she sometimes gets her team to wash someone's feet (when they are already knocked out) so she doesn't have to put up with smelly feet for the duration of the op! Can you do a cartoon or poster, or leaflets or something???? I use Olbas oil sometimes - and occasionally wake at night when I've got my face on the bit of pillow with olbas oil on having burnt myself a bit, so I imagine nostrils would be a lot worse. Perhaps, though, you should patent it as a way of avoiding a cold? You could come up with special little impregnated nose plugs - you could even do 'designer' coloured ones!

TW - I hope you get over jet lag and dodgy sausages soon. Have a good break!

Had a chat with mistlechick's teacher today before picking him up. She says that she has to remind herself that he is not yet five, and not six as you might imagine... And that the main problem is that he's got so much to say and can't contain it (and let anyone else have an input) and there's obviously so much going on in his head that he gets totally distracted from what he's meant to be doing.....

amberlight · 26/01/2010 07:56

I can knit - but only scarves, and I can't guarantee a lack of holes where there shouldn't be any.

mistlethrush · 26/01/2010 13:25

Anyone else care for a bowl of minestrone stew? It started out as soup, but has become a bit thicker and really more like stew now... oh and some 'slugs and snails' rolls from ds also available, I think two slugs = one snail in terms of volume.

nice and sunny here for a change, but quite cold....

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 26/01/2010 14:32

'Tis very cold here.

I'd love some minestrone stew and a snail roll. I've put some cheese and carrot muffins in the warming oven, if anyone would like one.

UniS · 26/01/2010 15:15

2 slugs for me please.

just checked boys letter recognition, 10 out of 26 ain't bad for a 3 yr old. proud mum moment.

amberlight · 26/01/2010 15:17

Yes please for stew and a slug. Been negotiating insurance half the day - that calls for something more substantial than a soup, for sure.

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 26/01/2010 17:08
amberlight · 26/01/2010 17:21

yesh pleaszessh for a (hic) tea and cakey-wakey

UniS · 26/01/2010 18:51

Cabbage surprise recipe found by the power of mumsnet. and used it to stuff peppers for DH and I. I'd ended up with left over rice AND cabbage and was making tomato sauce for another meal... so it was an obvious choice, just couldn't remember the ratios.

Um, those slugs were... interesting.... what colours were the childs hands before and after?

HAve had a tip off about a house... no news beyond that yet tho.

CMOTdibbler · 26/01/2010 20:51

Is it still tea and cake time, or are we onto merlot and twiglets ?

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 26/01/2010 20:59

Having found the recipe for cabbage surprise, I have to say that my surprise was that anyone could create a recipe which made cabbage palatable! But it has inspired me to build on the success of my apricot and herring vol au vents and other culinary triumphs and so now, to accompany the merlot, I present to you .....

Twiglet Surprise.
