Goodness, we seem to have run out of space on the other one!
I shall assume that we are still in the same premises as for Tea Room Ten for the moment until wiser people tell me otherwise!!

OP posts:

Catita, for thise of us that aren't going through it, it's all sounding quite exciting!

Madbad, I've been baking too, but a la Nigella. Quadruple chocolate loaf cake and banana loaf. Haven't tried them yet but the kitchen smells lovely.

Gymgirlie improved yesterday and we called in on the birthday party she had been invited to. She was fine but a good few of her school friends' parents reported that they too had been unwell, and 2 had had it confirmed as swine flu (well, as well as sf can be confired without swabbing) so it's maybe that she has that. We came home and she really dipped again. Went to bed at 8 and apart from a quick calpol at 4am slept till 10 this morning. She's fine when she's on the calpol and has been fine-ish all day, but she def doesn't look well in her eyes iykwim, and she hsn't moved far from the sofa all day, which is not like her. So I have already made grovelling call to boss as I am going to keep her home tomorrow, and will give doc a call. But she and I are so bored already, it could be a long week.

Catitainahatita · 01/11/2009 17:16

Sorry to hear you are having trouble sleeping again, Thumb. Do you know what it is that sets off your insomnia? Is it general stress or diet-related? I wish I could offer some good advice, but remembering how it was to have insomnia (as an overworked, underpaid undergrad), nothing that anyone ever suggested worked (or nothing I feasibly do that was suggested).

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 01/11/2009 17:20

Please sit down on the distressed chaise longue, Catita. I wouldn't want any sudden exertions to trigger anything!

Commiserations to you and gymgirlie, gymbunny. Do you think she'd like a muffin?

Catitainahatita · 01/11/2009 17:20

It sounds like you need a joblot of DVDs to see you through the mire, Gymbunny. That way Gymgirlie can be more or less entertained without having to do an awful lot, and you can get on with things in the background. Could you not take her on a trip to the videoshop tomorrow morning after the doctor's?

thumbwitch · 01/11/2009 17:23

Catita, no I'm not sure what sets it off - I still have DS in bed with me and we go to bed earlier than I normally would, given the choice - but some nights I can easily drop back to sleep if he wakes me, others I can't. No particular pattern. Ah well, we get our new bed this week and I hope to be able to leave DS to sleep on his own then.

notquiteagymbunny · 01/11/2009 17:27

I'd love a muffin, but I appear to have spawned a child who will usually take a couple of bites from a cake and then leave it. So it would be a shame to waste a pilchard and almond muffin on her.

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 01/11/2009 17:36

Thumb - I have been sleeping badly recently. Rather to my surprise (I tend to be a sceptic) I found an aromatherapy spray on the pillow really helped. Worth a try?

notquiteagymbunny · 01/11/2009 19:00

omg the Nigella quadruple chocolate cake is divine anyone fancy some?

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 01/11/2009 19:13

Yes please!

notquiteagymbunny · 01/11/2009 19:45

Chocolate sponge with chocolate chips topped in chocolate syrup and chocolate shavings . No calories or fat of course.

daisy99divine · 01/11/2009 21:58

Well, I find it surprising that nobody has mentioned the lovely little pumpkin outfits the NMBs were wearing at the weekend, I thought the orange tummies set off with flame red hair were quite the thing

We had a wonderful T0rT - I may have bored you already with the Street Fest but it was wonderful. DaisyBoy had a Ball skipping from house to house. We had a lovely pumpkin and all visitors (not just us) terribly well behaved

Gym I envy your week and love hearing of your sundays. Cake top too

Catita goodness I am excited. Glad you have survived No Drug Weekend, now just GO GO GO

JM glad techno result

Thumb does exercise before bed help or reading with a low light when you wake up (or would MiniT wake too?) and I totally agree about the fluffy toys thing

MadBad I look forward to seeing Dr MadBadBaby's published work

Racing you did not moan. You should talk to us more. We're friends, that's what we're for - even Dave the Trucker cares

UniS I love the sound ofyour village, and also your marital therapy

Glad to have given you a titter re DaisyBloke. Actually I was hoisted by my own petard. Woke at 2. He wasn't home. The pub is about 10 minutes from home so I got up, only to have him "roll in" so I got the whole bit anyway

UniS · 01/11/2009 21:59

drooooooool

UniS · 01/11/2009 22:10

Had 2 vists from groups of pre teen TorTers last night. Baby sitter reported none while we were out so teh poster must have worked.

DH and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a night out at teh village hall watching a play that was somewhat about apples... bit of a theme weekend as...

Today we got stuck in with a spot of community cider making. Yep, really, its not just done for Camera when Hugh Witting- fernleighstall is about. Very fine apple juice we were pressing today, should have turned in to cider by about May. Last years brew was OK, but became fantastic ( and dangerously moreish) when mixed with a little fresh juice.

daisy99divine · 01/11/2009 22:11

ACtually, Racing I think you should speak to your friend. I am sure you felt odd or paranoid because of the stress at home, and while you might not need to tell all about Monsieur Racing you and Elliptical W do need friends in RL and to get out and about

Was this the friend that kept letting you down with arrangements before?

Is M. Racing at home all the time or at work too? Just wondered if him being under your feet all the time was adding to the tension?

RacingSnake · 01/11/2009 22:18

New muffin repertoire reminds me of Leticia in the Vicar of Dibley. Quite my favourite character. Shall we publish a slim tome in time for the Christmas market? I would like to put in a plea for sardine and marmalade.

UniS and MadBad - have spotted a flaw with your cure for marital upsets - Eliptical Wriggle shares our bed. OK when she had a long lunch time sleep elsewhere, but no longer. We don't have another room and not a good time to suggest moving her. (Even if I wanted to!)

Almost too preoccupied to notice the NMBs - thank you for pointing them out.

daisy99divine · 01/11/2009 22:49

Racing we almost cross-posted there. Can I give you a ((((hug))) and tuck you up with the cashmere throw?

UniS you had TorTers today??? Glad the cider is going well

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 01/11/2009 22:49

Racing - It was UniS's suggestion for creating marital harmony, not mine! I find the idea of fixing ishoos with a cormorant shag intriguing, but find that when I am furious with MadBadBloke my thoughts are more likely to turn to murder than lurve. Is Mellors still with you? Maybe he could have a homme a homme chat with MonsieurRacing, if he's not suffering the after effects of your sardine and marmalade sponge?

Daisy - Well, today I had my moany hat on as I persuaded MadBadbaby to write up her thesis at a rate of more than a word a minute. Luckily there's no viva. Three cheers for DaisyBloke's romantic streak.

A slim volume to catch the Christmas market is an excellent idea. Shall we have a craft market like we did last year?

Would anyone care for some Bolly? I find I need some, to fortify myself for the return to school tomorrow.

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 01/11/2009 22:52
daisy99divine · 01/11/2009 23:15

Thanks Mad Bad, much needed

Here are some twiglets

thumbwitch · 01/11/2009 23:20

I'm with MadBad on the diving bird issue - if there is any bad feeling between me and MrThumb, marital relations is absolutely the last thing I feel like engaging in - beating him with something large and heavy appeals much more strongly!

RS - always feel free to offload on here - that's part of what we're here for!

Daisy - nice idea and normally I would but you are right, a light would cause wakefulness in miniThumb
I may try the aromatherapy - I have enough oils here to make up a decent sleep-inducing (and simultaneously mozzie-repelling) combo that we could burn in a burner overnight. Funny how I never think of these things for myself!

UniS - am of your communal cider making - sounds fab!

RacingSnake · 02/11/2009 08:42

Good morning all. Marmite muffins are on the counter, togethger with the Bambi-shaped scones made by EW in real life.

End of half term, M. Snake back at work - quite cheerful - and just got to break the news of nursery to Wriggle.

UniS - I love the sound of your village!

Thumb - what is swagman's pie? I keep meaning to ask. Tell me which oils you find to be relaxing and sleep inducing (not much of a mozzie problem here due to storm-force gales). I keep waking up between 4.30 and 5 am and it is most annoying. I just stay awake then.

Re diving birds - I had the strangest dream last night, involving Wriggle being swept off to be looked after by someone else, leaving M. Snake and I alone .... . Why I didn't just use the opportunity to finish him off with a shovel I don't know. Must show something. It also shows that the tearoom is entering my dreams.

Daisy, thank you for cashmere throw. Will keep it on all day as a shawl for extra comfort. Friend was not smugdonkeyowneranddatebreaker but woman whose company I have previously enjoyed very much and will now miss, especially since her son is one of Wriggle's best friends. Did try and explain that I was probably a bit overtired and stressed. She said she is totally overladed too ... because she has a three-year old. No job (let alone two), no grumpy husband with depression, no aged parent sitting upstairs worrying about money, no menagerie of pets to look after, messy house and large garden ... Actually I like the pets. And the garden. And the company of the AP. And of course, more than anything else, Wriggle. I wouldn't change. But her husband is away at sea. (That is equal quantities of envy and seasickness.) Just shows that everyone's problems are huge to them, whatever they look like to the outside world.

I, for example, cannot imagine coping with emigrating to a new continent, like Thumb. Very much in awe.

Anyway, this post has definitely turned into a putting-on-the-washing avoidance strategy.

teafortwo · 02/11/2009 10:51

Hello all!!! Esp Catita (good luck with your pushing and cuddling of little daaaahlin baaaaayby aaaaaaar (sob)!)

Oooooh - What a busy half term we are having! We are still on hols until Thursday.

RS I have forgiven much less from dear friends... I am sure your friend will be wondering if you are ok rather than seething and plotting to avoid you forever and a day!

I really feel for you, Wriggle and Mr Snake... it is a horrible thing when those grey clouds roll in... ... hopefully Wriggle will help you dance in the rain and some sunny weather will be on its way soon iyswim.

Madbad - I must admit the blue vases fantasy is based on a sixth form trip I embarked upon many mahhhheeeheeeeny years ago. Maybe the vases have been moved or more likely I was confusing the colour of the vases and eyes of one of the boys in my class...

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 02/11/2009 13:30

There's some tomato and basil soup on the aga, if anyone is so minded.

Tea - I am that you were able to waft around the Fitzwilliam with blue-eyed boys. What an exquisite experience.

Racing - Are you quite sure that things aren't retrievable with WifeofMatelotFriend? And I am and and at the turn you dream took!

I zink perhaps zat zere are still some feelinks zere for your husband.

A propos shovels, I read a not very interesting piece by Cristina Odone in Saturday's Guardian about step-families. But I was amused that the protective step-brother had been rehearsing for welcoming his much younger sister's boyfriends by saying "I've got a gun and a shovel and nobody will miss you".

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 02/11/2009 13:32

MadBad wishes to apologise for the stereotypical and not at all convincing Viennese accent in the previous post.

RacingSnake · 02/11/2009 14:06

Yes, not quite convincing. It should of course have been 'husbant'.

I liked that piece, too. Probably where my shovel came from.

Not sure about tomato and basil soup - it seems a little tame compared to some of your latest culinery efforts; shouldn't there be just a hint of prawn and vanilla in it?
