Tea Room the Ninth: I love rock and roll, put another dime in the juke box baby

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 16/06/2009 22:20

Welome to the ninth incarnation of the tea room. It's been a long and eventful road, from a tea room overlooking a cathedral garden to a beachside cafe, with a diversion via a yurt. Now - voila - we are in a music lounge. We cater for all tastes and, as this is a tea room of requirement, it manages simultaneously to be many things at once. For some, it is a 70s glam rock disco with a cool boho edge - glitter balls, smoke machine and much wearing of platform shoes and eyeliner. For others, a jazz bar where mellow music is played as cocktails are served. For still others, it's a concert performance of Spem In Allium. We still have a garden, with shady parasols for the summer, and a menagerie of pets. Our membership is international.

The tea room has few rules. Everyone is welcome. But anyone visiting with the sole intention of causing hurt or shouting abuse will be ejected by Mellors, the multi-talented gardener-handyman who (it turns out) is also a guitar wizard and rock god.

Please come in.

It is so good to see you.

It was only a pretend sulk, after the rather marvellous and unutterably droll name I thought of for CmotMoggy was rejected. And psychoanalysis? Pah! She didn't even get close.

So sorry to hear that MonsieurSnake has fresh woes to replace those removed by the good news from the hospital.

Would you like a soupcon of Bolly before you leave? You do look comfortable on that leather sofa, but we have the distressed and racingpig-devoured chaise longue in the store room. We could perhaps squeeze it into that corner over there. I'm sure Mellors would assist.

Arfg! Too slow to post again.

Want to suggest to Toothless that she reads The Secret Life of Bees, as (as you might surmise) honey and very many bees feature therein.

Jacksmama · 25/06/2009 22:56

Eh? Bees have a secret life?
[befuddled emoticon]

I think I've had too much Bolly. IF such a thing is possible.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 25/06/2009 23:00

Evening oh lushy ladies!

RS - I feel your pain - twas not that long ago I had my wisdom tooth out, mind you it only took 4 injections, not 6. But it definitely took 25% of my intellect with it!
Also about M.RS's job - it's just one thing after another - but good about his lung.

Welcome back JM - I do know what you mean about some of the male types but there are others who are generally fine - Pan and RetiredGoth2 are my favourites. And PadDad is ok too.

Now, Carruthers - I see him as more of a big black and very sleek puss, with a very smart white shirt front... not sure why...

I loved the Secret Life of Bees - one of those quirky and deep books with lots more emotion than you would expect but good.

I'll have a bolly, ta - it will go very nicely with my tub of G&B chocolate ice cream (which is THE best icecream ever)

Jacksmama · 25/06/2009 23:13

Hi thumb - I saw you around a few nights ago on some thread-weirdness (I was lurking). Agree with you on the above-mentioned. But ABD for example - don't ask me where I'd like to send him...

Since we are currently a disco lounge: there is apparently a rumour that Michael Jackson has died. I don't believe it, I think it's media hype to boost sales [cynical emoticon].

thumbwitch · 25/06/2009 23:18

NOooo!! michael Jackson? Didn't hear that. But MrThumb did tell me today that Farrah Fawcett died today - that made me sad - I remember her from Charlie's Angels (she was the one I wanted to be!). Great hair and eyes.

(which thread was that then? Not aitch's?)

Jacksmama · 25/06/2009 23:20

No, it seems to have been deleted. It was weird.

Nobody seems to know if Michael Jackson is dead or not, for real.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 25/06/2009 23:21

Hi, Thumn.

I saw that about Michael Jackson. The BBC just says he's in hospital. Hmm.

Great to see you. We have missed you lots... your trip to London sounded fab but sorry to hear about your latest troubles - I really feel for you!

In response to your question re Milk and school - I suppose because everyone is starting school at three it is fine. The curriculum is pretty close to The Foundation Stage - with a bit more emphasis on being able to follow instructions which I don't think is a bad thing.

In no particular order - Milk's school is set in a big beautiful park in Paris and she just goes for half a day everyday for a whole year and they have to wear cute smocks and they have good staff children ratio and it is a bilingual school...

All these things make it somehow a very happy prospect for Milk and I. I hope I am feeling as positive in September (eeeeeeeeeeeeek)....

thumbwitch · 25/06/2009 23:22

hmmm - am confused that the news links are saying he has "died" - like he made it up or something?! I realise that there has been no official confirmation but still, bit weird.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 25/06/2009 23:36

Well, the BBC site is now reporting that the LA Times is reporting that he has died. How sad. For all his faults, he provided the soundtrack for so much of my younger years.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 25/06/2009 23:40

I'm updating Google News on it and he's gone from "dead" to dead to hospitalised to Thought to have been hospitalised... wish they'd make their minds up.
Although it would be sad if true.

teafortwo · 25/06/2009 23:41

French news have confirmed it too.

thumbwitch · 25/06/2009 23:44

Looking more and more like he really has gone. Ah well, that is sad. But it's the way all icons should go, before their time - helps to immortalise them.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 25/06/2009 23:46

Well, BBC is now saying 'Jackson dies' so I guess they're sure of their facts.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 25/06/2009 23:47

CNN still aren't confirming it entirely though..

mistlethrush · 26/06/2009 07:31

RS - fantastic news re MrRS and health issues - sorry about job... The only positive thing is that there is starting to be talk of a turn round early next year - hopefully that will mean things gradually start to drag themselves up again and there will be more jobs etc.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/06/2009 10:21

Tea, coffee or hot chocolate, anyone? We also have fresh muffins and danish pastries.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 26/06/2009 11:15

hot chocolate would be fab ta MadBad - and I think I saw some tiny pains au chocolat there?

HOYYY!!!! NMBs, come back with those now!

mistlethrush · 26/06/2009 11:25

Muffins - now you're talking!

RS - hope you're feeling a bit better today.

daisy99divine · 26/06/2009 14:40

Well, look what I found! There isn't much stuffing in it but when RAcing Pigg and RAcingMrsPiggy have had enough in the garden they can come back inside for a break!

Sorry to miss the bolly last night, but heh, no excuses. I was stuck on the sofa and unable to move in RL

So sad Jacko has gone, I well remember Billy Jean and Thriller - the soundtrack of my yoof. Indeed, a disco tearoom is sadly apt

Racing I am not Bollyed but very happy to see you, sorry about poor teeth and glad that Food in London has provided respite! Poor M. RS or is he just a teensy bit like hard work at the mo?

Very impressed by bees. My knowledge is confined to Eric the Half a Bee

Hugs to you all Tea your school for Milk sounds lovely and very like DaisyBoy's nursery (only he does 3 mornings) and he LOVES it

MadBad you are a kinda out and about in same places as me girl - we are thinking of going to the Barbican Cuba weekend this weekend, shall you be there?

CMOT hurrah for your RL cat but big welcome to Carruthers - our cat

daisy99divine · 26/06/2009 14:41

oh, JM meant to say, I hope your Ragged Bits aren't causing too much trouble?

I have little to contribute to Out of TeaRoom life - I rarely stray elsewehere on MN, about the only thing I do is post on Active Convos at about 2am because I can't work in fact the only other thread I have done was one asking for help re craft items and who answered? Bless her it was thumb so I might as well just ahve asked in here anyway!

nakedmowhawkbaby · 26/06/2009 14:48

Tiddly Ho!!! Tiddly Dum!!!

Hurrah for us! and isn't life fun!!!

What ho Teeny Tiny NMBs???

Come along chaps!!!

Right lads, let's settle down

bison · 26/06/2009 14:53

In comes Bison. He is still large and black but looking a little less threatening due to the glittery purple cape that streams out behind him

He also has some lovely felt boots so that he doesn't hamr the dance floor

He strikes a few remarkably athletic shapes and wanders off to eat the herbs
