Tea Room the Ninth: I love rock and roll, put another dime in the juke box baby

Welome to the ninth incarnation of the tea room. It's been a long and eventful road, from a tea room overlooking a cathedral garden to a beachside cafe, with a diversion via a yurt. Now - voila - we are in a music lounge. We cater for all tastes and, as this is a tea room of requirement, it manages simultaneously to be many things at once. For some, it is a 70s glam rock disco with a cool boho edge - glitter balls, smoke machine and much wearing of platform shoes and eyeliner. For others, a jazz bar where mellow music is played as cocktails are served. For still others, it's a concert performance of Spem In Allium. We still have a garden, with shady parasols for the summer, and a menagerie of pets. Our membership is international.

The tea room has few rules. Everyone is welcome. But anyone visiting with the sole intention of causing hurt or shouting abuse will be ejected by Mellors, the multi-talented gardener-handyman who (it turns out) is also a guitar wizard and rock god.

Please come in.

Did someone mention Eric the Half a Bee? The moment I realised I was a teenage boy trapped in a girl's body (well, not literally) was when I read some twerp's learned person's opinion that memorising Monty Python sketches was an adolescent boy thing. I realised that I knew dozens of sketches off my heart.

MadBad I was slightly at what we should do if you were going too....

I am certainly an adolescent boy if memorising Monty Python is the test....

UniS · 26/06/2009 15:41

I thought I memorised monty python sketches in order to impress a boy... whislt a teen age girl. maybe I was confused, he did have long blonde hair while I had very short hair.

Horrah, I have off loaded my son and heir onto my BF, whilst I get some work done !!! so I'm on MN... I have however done a good stint in teh workshop FIRST, and am about to go do some more. Oh, and I've been offered a anther few days work in August, which is good, just need 3 more and I'll have earnt the cost of the 2nd hand tandem we bought at the weekend.
Boy gets his new bike tomorow, I'm excited for him.

Hi NMBs and Bison, good to se you grooving away over there on teh dance floor. I'll leave them to it. I don'T DANCE, i DON;T SING, i JUST STAND HERE DOING MY THING.

ANd hitting caps lock by accident.

thumbwitch · 26/06/2009 15:52

I never could memorise MP or anything else in full - I remember snippets and the visuals, but not the full script.
I do love the Knights who say "ni" though, and the Black Knight; the killer rabbit of somewhere or other and all that malarkey.

Oh, and the dead parrot sketch of course.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/06/2009 16:14

He isn't dead. You stunned him, just as he was waking up.

...sailing the wide accountantsea.....

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/06/2009 17:51

I've got ninety thousand pounds in my pyjamas
I've got forty thousand French francs in my fridge
I've got lots of lovely lire
Now the Deutschmark's getting dearer
And my dollar bills would buy the Brooklyn Bridge .....

... but I haven't yet caught up with the Euro

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy

I like that Carruthers has moved in here.

Back home this afternoon. Alas looks like a full flight in economy, so am hoping for a non fat bloke next to me, as there were no seats left with a space next to them.

Brother and his fiance coming to lunch tomorrow. This could be interesting !

Sympathies for the tooth RS

UniS · 26/06/2009 21:08

sympathy on transatlanic flight in cattle class. Last time I came this way cross the pond We were upgraded to business thanks to an arsey check in worker in St Louis- long story.

The NMB arial antics are quite something tonight, they really have taken to formation bee flight rather well.

Either boy is talking in his sleep or someone elses child is out side our front door randomly chatting to no one.. its bit freaky.

The new bike has arrived- very cute, an Isla bikes Cnoc14.

Mines a cool something or other on ice tonight, how bout you ladies, cocktails all round?

mistlethrush · 26/06/2009 21:48

Oh - yes please Unis! We've got a tag-along for MJ and went out at the weekend - some of the time he was actually managing to push me along - at other times he was lurching hugely and making it really difficult to balance/ steer/ stay up !

UniS · 26/06/2009 22:24

arrgh the lurching , wobbling tag a long... precisely why we have just bought a tandem.
I would rather have boy on the same frame, so I can control it better. DH and I plan on using it a bit this summer while boy still fits teh trailer, then dh will fit kiddie cranks and boy will be teh stoker .

I think this weekend will be largely spent getting boy "going and pedeling" his new bike.
and Dh has two cricket matches.

thumbwitch · 26/06/2009 22:31

A long tall Pimms? or perhaps a Kir Royale...
choices, choices...
no, a red wine spritzer I think.

DH has been wallowing in Michaelabilia on tv it is sad but is it that important in the grand scheme of things? Or maybe I'm jjust not that bothered.

ToothlessCrone · 26/06/2009 22:46

My dentist is fantastic - the only bit of my mouth that hurts is where she did the injections. I haven't yet plucked up the courage to look at the hole, though. I am putting off the moment when I see the huge gap and realise how OLD I must be to be losing teeth like this.

Congratulations, Uni, on bike peddling. (Actually, I think that probably means selling bikes. Should it be pedalling? Or pedaling?)

Daisy, thanks for the sympathy. M. RS is always a teensy bit like hard work. However, the job is not gone yet, so I shall worry about it when and if it happens. He, on the other hand, wouldn't feel right without something to worry about.

But we have bought a tent. Am very excited. Have also bought a new wireless router, bringing to two the number of things I have just purchased that I don't know how to work.

Tea, Milk's school sounds lovely. Went to a fete in Wriggle's prospective school today and was a tiny bit reconciled by the beautiful climbing equipment under the trees in the grounds. But only a tiny bit. I do not like schools. I should know, after all. And actually, it is only prospective if I actually get round to putting her name down for it.

Jacksmama · 26/06/2009 23:14

(((((((((((((((((TC)))))))))))))))))))))

There. Better?

Have some Bolly. Better yet, have a Sparkling Lemondrop.

How is everyone today? It was nice to see the bison again. His cape is most impressive.

CMOTdibbler · 26/06/2009 23:14

Have a ((hug)) RS/TC. And a glass of bolly.

Am in major celebratory mood as my new product has got regulatory clearance in a third of the minimum time we predicted. Now I have to see if anyone will actually part with hard cash for it...(not allowed to take orders until it is cleared)

daisy99divine · 27/06/2009 00:14

(((((((((((((((((((TC/RC))))))))))))))))))) UniS excited to hear about Isla bike, mate of mine just got one and they look sooo cooool!

Thumb know what you mean about Michael, I would happily watch Thriller for hours but a low point was Kirsty wearing something ghastly on Newsnight buggering on interllectually dissecting the first 24/7 media led celebrity death with some Nork from UEL or somesuch

Racing as well as hugs, tell me more about the tent, very exciting. I love tents and idea of tents

Camper is behaving so appallingly I don't think we're going away in it this summer so it's back to car/tent/Formula 1 on the way [sigh]

Congrats CMOT sounds like trip has been totally cool

I suspcet I am too late for you all, but I like to share

UniS · 27/06/2009 10:15

well boy and daddy have gone off to play group, we havn;t shown boy his bike yet... that will be this afternoons suprise.
I ought to get me off to my workshop and fix a few parcans- boring fiddly rewire jobs.

Am saving jam making for later. Lots of blackcurrents on tehbush. Raspberries are too good to jam,we just eat them fresh.

UniS · 27/06/2009 10:19

check the profile for a new pic of boy.

thumbwitch · 27/06/2009 10:30

lovely pic, UniS!

I had to go before I thought I would last night cos miniThumb awoke roaring again and wouldn't settle in his cot AGAIN. That makes 4 nights in a row I've had to bring him in here . Sleeping is NOT going well as a result.

I'll have a nice mochaccino with an extra dash of coffee and some lovely choccy sprinkles on top, I think - anyone else care for one?

UniS · 27/06/2009 11:28

mines an iced mocha latte with a chocolate straw. Fancy some caramel shortbread on the side? we could share a piece, then neither of us need feel guilty.

I'm holding back for a tea room bananarama ice cream sundae at lunch time.

UniS · 27/06/2009 11:30

www.cartedortrade.com/BOH/servingsuggestions2.htm

There we go, enough to share I think.

thumbwitch · 27/06/2009 12:12

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Yummy!

thumbwitch · 27/06/2009 22:41

Just checkin in - another quiet day in the tearoom!
Might have to go early though cos miniThumb is playing up again.
He decided not to go to sleep after his feed and then after about 15 mins of me bend double over his travel cot holding his finger, I gave in before my back gave out, and left him to it.
40 mins on and he's still wailing, intermittently now but...
[grrrr]

Strong drink, anyone?

UniS · 28/06/2009 12:30
