Hello and welcome to the seventh incarnation of the tearoom.

If you have found us by chance and/or curiousity you must know that the tearoom is a virtual safe haven for all those seeking a friendly word, a good cuppa and plenty to snack on. By virtue of its magic nature, no food can cause any physical damage, so chocolate, alcohol, transfat and all such can be consumed guilt- (and magically calorie-) free.

We have a wide range of soft-furnishing to relax on; a lovely garden with a swing and a ha ha; a variety of animals; a spa and (for some unknown reason) an apidistra.

Everyone is welcome, if you have one child, ten or none at all. We are a tolerant and fisticuffs-free zone. Instead we employ our energies swooning at Mellors the Gardner cum handiman thinking a silly things to get up to.

Please come in and say hello. You never know, you may end up joining us ...

RS - it depends on when my visa comes through. I have a caseworker now (only took 3 days out of the 10 they suggested) so am hopeful they can crack on quickly with processing it. We are hoping to go end of June but we might not have the visa through by then, so it might be a bit later.

Nothing vague about it now, then!

daisy99divine · 08/05/2009 17:09

Tea, I am a bit don't know much, other than
(1) there was a thing that they couldn't give birth because their heads were too big
(2) an awful spolied bulldog on one of those "supernanny for Dogs" programmes - not the dog's fault but put me off!

have a wonderful birthday weekend

Thumb - all sounds exciting and close!

thumbwitch · 08/05/2009 17:38

close - yes.
terrifying - yes.
exciting? I wish.

Catitainahatita · 08/05/2009 17:50

First of all to DCMB HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I hope you have a good day.

SPECIAL MEASURES: potplants are actually pot plants

Thank you for the birthday wishes ... I've brought another jaffa cake loaf. I'm not making any other kind of cake again ever.

Ooh, a present!

Why Catita, you appear to have given me Robert Pattinson, how completely delightful! Mm.

UniS · 08/05/2009 21:08

Arrrrgghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

help- send cake chocolate and straong alchol. PLEASE

DontCallMeBaby · 08/05/2009 21:34

Sympathies - I have numerous blog postings done from upstairs at my in-laws' house, all 'argh, FiL said ... OMG I can't believe what MiL did ... I want to go home ...'

Donk · 08/05/2009 22:12

Oooooh!

I've been looking through some old coins (from my Grandad's shop, years ago - amazing the stuff some people managed to pass off as good currency!) and one of the coins is a Charles 1st Scottish 40 pence coin.
Not worth much, but history

daisy99divine · 08/05/2009 23:36

Donk how exciting re the coins! And how is your dad, I posted ou your rage thread, but wondered how he was?

UniS laugh that you "disappeared" when your inlaws arrived and were back 1 1/2 hours later!

DCMB hope you are having a lovely birthday evening, with jaffa cake, gin and Robert Pattinson - what more could you want?!

MadBad I am still feeling a little wobbly kneed from GC last night, I had forgotten how melifulous "check blood gases" could sound [swoon]

Since I seem to be here alone, I am going to dance

Bolly anyone? I'm in heaven!

daisy99divine · 08/05/2009 23:37

oh, Catita I don't know what you said on Amber's SN thread, but she will know you were trying to help - you may need to apologise there, but here, my love, be soothed and it will be ok

Donk · 08/05/2009 23:48

Dad sounded ok when I spoke to him earlier, but I have just had a weird e-mail from him....it is really very odd.

The coins have been sitting in a drawer for years... there were lots of worn Victorian coins, some less worn including a Jubilee Crown. Several George III sixpences (two from the year after Waterloo), a Victorian imitation spade guinea (which were apparently used as games counters) and a Victorian imitation half sovereign (another games counter). A William III silver coin - so worn that I can only just make out which King it is, the obverse is worn completely blank. No idea what denomination it is. Three Emperor Napoleon the third coins - and three from the South African Republic (from during the Boer War). Also a 50 pfennig reichsmark complete with swatika. And an Indian Head Nickel. Almost all have no (or very low) real value - but that's not the point!

It all makes me feel much closer to the history somehow.

It just feels

Donk · 08/05/2009 23:51

Swatika should of course read 'swastika'

And where the last three words came from, I really have no idea. Time for bed methinks!

daisy99divine · 08/05/2009 23:58

no no, "it just feels" sums it up - tangible wonderful history!
from that list it was the William III and 1816 one that gave me a wee "just feels" shiver!

Donk · 09/05/2009 00:02

I know what you mean. I have just been teaching about all the post civil war stuff - that Charles the first coin went through it all - the Interregnum, the restoration, the Plague of London, The fire of London...

thumbwitch · 09/05/2009 00:26

ooooh, your post was number 666 - 1666 was the plague, mine is 667 - 1667 was the Great Fire! How apposite.

teafortwo · 09/05/2009 00:34

Hello all - we have discovered an excellent new curryhouse up the road from ours. The curry was so delicious I bought enough back for everyone....

Yes - apparently British Bulldogs are often born by c section because their heads are so big and they all snore because their airways are a bit squashed- but the Kennel Club have changed their rules on the breed so gradually in generations to come they will be healthier more natural dogs because heads will become smaller, face wrinkles less and noses longer -as long as you buy a kennel club approved dog you will be helping the breed to get healthier which is important.

The reason we are looking into this breed is - British Bulldogs don't bark much, are cool tempered, love lazing about being indoors, are loyal and loving and are very good with children.

DH loves the idea of owning one.... he loves dogs with short stumpy legs.... actually anything with short stumpy legs... even crocodiles look cute to him . I think it is funny that he fell in love with me, because, for the record I have neither short nor stumpy legs which he seems to find so appealing!!!!

teafortwo · 09/05/2009 00:40

Sorry I took so long typing I missed all the shiver of history stuff!

My wedding ring was my husband's Great Grandmother's wedding ring and has been handed down the generations - I am the third woman to wear it as a symbol of my marriage. Sometimes it makes me shiver to think what stories that ring could tell!

So just imagine the stories those coins could tell!!!!!! Now that is really something to make anyone shiver!

thumbwitch · 09/05/2009 00:49

t42 - you'll probably need to have everything waterproofed if you get one - I believe they slobber for England as well

Dog breeder extremists have done some terrible things to some of the breeds - the British Bulldog hips/heads thing is one; the red setters' skulls are now too small for their brains so they are all nuts; the shar pei (uber-wrinkly dog) have eye problems, as do other dogs with excessive facial skin wrinkling.

not as bad as the cat breeders who let the naked cat and the "rag-doll" cat breeds continue...

Jacksmama · 09/05/2009 02:26

Oh dear God, what have I missed? Someone please clue me in re what's happening with Amber and the SN thread - I last had a chance to properly mumsnet (used as a verb) when I was at my mum's, then Weds was a travel day, Thurs back to work with meeting at the end of it, today an all-day conference, so I don't know what's going on and looking at the SN board isn't helping me - please someone tell me what's happening and why Mumsnet (noun) isn't helping Amber???

Jacksmama · 09/05/2009 02:27

On a completely trivial note I just want to report that I am a very happy and impressed owner of a Hippy Chick... but that hardly seems to be important right now...

What in the world is happening outside of the Tea Room? I don't think I like it.

amber32002 · 09/05/2009 06:37

Have left the SN thread. Am in floods of tears - I have hurt people on there and I don't even really know how, but I daren't ever do that to them again. They don't deserve it.

Donk · 09/05/2009 10:07

Here Amber - I've brought DS's tractor manual for you. Have a bucket of tea. And some lemon drizzle cake.

Amber, I doubt you've hurt anyone else a fraction of how much you're hurting yourself. And it's clear from other comments that have helped plenty of other people. But I do think you could do with a serious break from the controversy.

(and where better than the priest hole for that?)
