The SIXTH Tea Room - Everyone Welcome

Jacksmama · 21/03/2009 00:18

The One Child Tea Room started as a sort of sanctuary for anyone who was a bit tired of the controversy surrounding having one child only, for whatever reason. The topic seems to attract that sort of thing. So we thought we needed a place where a cup of tea and a muffin and a place to sit down and relax was needed - and judging by the number of visitors and regulars, it really was much needed!

The tea room has since undergone a few, shall we say, metamorphoses... it started as a charming bricks and mortar sort of place, with a lovely English garden, a ha-ha in the distance, and wonderful mismatched crockery.

But since the tea room is truly magical, at night, the glitter ball comes out, and booze and sofas canapees are served. During the daytime, there is a stable with (at last count) two horses, Earl and Lady Grey, who appreciate being exercised. We also have (at last count) two guinea pigs, RacingPig and RacingMissPiggy... but since they seem to have been up to no good, that count may increase shortly.

In its most recent incarnation, the tea room became a yurt, and we had Mellors The Gardener show up in buckskin trousers and no shirt (which caused several of the regulars to either fan themselves with whatever magazines were available, or faint prettily, preferably into Mellors' arms), and there seems to have been an errant bison or two.
Oh, and we also had the Naked Mohawk Babies - they were originally cake decorations (for the life of me, I cannot find the link right now) - and they have since taken on lives of their own, adding much amusement to the tea room.

Decorations include cut-outs of George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, and any other hunks of burning love we can think of. Oh, and peace lilies, and (since nothing seems to be able to kill the damn thing) an aspidistra.

For those who are shy of company, or fleeing controversial threads, we have a Priest Hole to hide relax in.

Please remember that the tea room is magical - no amount of Bolly swilled will cause a hangover, allergies of any type mean nothing, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and if you don't fancy the distressed-looking couch, a brand-new comfy arm chair will appear in seconds.

EVERYONE is welcome, whether you have one child, none, or ten. In fact, one of our regulars is currently pregnant!!

The only strict rule we enforce is no fisticuffs. Anyone who behaves disagreeably will be ejected by Mellors (fully clad).

Most important of all - the tea room is meant for fun and support. It's perfectly acceptable, and in fact, mandatory, to be a little unhinged yourself.

Welcome all!!

(I've had a somewhat trying day so I will leave the crating and moving of china, and the actual shaping of the tea room, to everyone else... I did hear rumours of a spa being added, however, so please, book me in for a pedicure, will you? Thanks!)

I don't think this thread will fill up for a few more days, Donk. Although it is less than two weeks old, so maybe you have a point.
Someone else can start the 7th Heaven Tea Room... I've done two already. But feel free to cut and paste my carefully composed introduction which looks like it did the job in not making us look too demented so visitors can see what we're all about.
And perhaps we should add a gate to the Tea Room/Spa/Bedouin Tent grounds to keep out the riffraff camels... As Donk obseved they smell...

Thats the thing about chemo that did for me - it completely floored me in terms of tiredness... And each course started before the effects of the last had properly worn off so it just compounded the problem. It was very strange going to the Dr (I was allowed by the Hospital to bring the chemo home and put it in the fridge then take it to the local Dr rather than having to travel 40 miles each way for an injection towards the end) and getting them to stab me with something that was actually making me feel worse (although, without it I would almost certainly be dead by now, so can't complain...). Dh did say that he was always very careful first thing in the morning when he hadn't woken up properly, opening the fridge and seeing something with Poison hazards all over it!

MiL had decided to take ds to the beach (1hr 15 mins to seaside town on the train) today, so dh had told ds - then MiL got cold feet about it due to the weather (a bit overcast and windy predicted) - I broached the subject with ds saying that it might not be a good day to go and it might be better to leave it until a better day - he was fine and later suggested to MiL that they might go to nearby House where we have visitors card (they have a great adventure playground there).

Need lots of positive vibes today please!!!

Racingbunny · 08/04/2009 09:40

Lots and lots of positive vibes coming your way. And a nice hot drop scone with honey?

CMOTdibbler · 08/04/2009 09:43

Big positive vibes for MTDH on the job front. I'll cross my toes

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 08/04/2009 10:29

More job vibes coming from me too!

mistlethrush · 08/04/2009 10:41

Thank you for the vibes - I'm passing them on! Drop scone sounds ideal

daisy99divine · 08/04/2009 11:42

Vibes coming your way Mistle with vibey extra vibeness for good luck

Some of the scones and honey, however, being diverted my way

dead impressed by MJ and maturity!

So sorry to hear about the chemo - I mean the effect of it first hand, it is a bit of a no brainer voluntarily to poison yourself isn't it- healthy vibes for all poor souls requring it

I feel a bit of a casbah moment coming on - anyone?

mistlethrush · 08/04/2009 12:40

If some of the Turkish Apple Tea is available, I might join you - certainly up for the lounging bit anyway. Still can't concentrate, still no news!!!!

mistlethrush · 08/04/2009 12:46

Thinking about it - its amazing how differently people react to this sort of thing - I know one person who had the same treatment as me was 'popping in' for injection then going back to work Xmas Shock wheras I went home and slept in front of daytime TV! (or in the garden in the sun). Similarly, we know someone who had RT for bc quite recently and she said she didn't really get affected at all - still out walking the dog quite happily everyday, and really business as usual apart from having to go for the treatments.

mistlethrush · 08/04/2009 16:09

Bother. They seemed to have been advertising for the wrong post - they actually wanted a more junior straight programmer rather than a strategic manager...

Jackbunnysmama · 08/04/2009 16:38

OH FFS Mistlthrush, what utter shite of this company to get their job advertising wrong!! for you!! So angry in fact that bunny ears are inappropriate.
Would a ((((HUG)))) or a cup of tea help?
Or is it close enough to Bolly O'Clock?

mistlethrush · 08/04/2009 16:51

Yes please. To everything! It is very dispiriting. At least he hadn't spent £240 on a train ticket - only a tank of fuel and baby sitting.

Its not as if, it being an employers market, they are going to want to offer the job to someone good on a lower salary just as its a job - they clearly simply want a programmer... And by interviewing dh for a job that they hadn't advertised correctly, they presumably havn't interviewed the right person for the job anyway....

Racingbunny · 08/04/2009 20:14

No time to stay - bit of a situation here too, but soooooo sorry, MT. Allow a little time for feeling sorry for yourselves - don't feel you have to be straight up and off again.

((((((((hug)))))))))

Just preparing things for the funeral tomorrow.

Cin cin, everyone!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 08/04/2009 20:52

Mistle - I'm confused and a bit dense. Is your DH not being considered for this lower level job, even if it wasn't what he applied for? How frustrating for you both. I'm so sorry. ((((hug))))

Racing - another ((((hug)))) for you too.

Would anyone like a drink? We have all the usuals and I thought tonight, for Thumb's sake, we might also offer some cocktails. Would anyone like to get Between The Sheets?

thumbbunny · 09/04/2009 01:33

Mistle - for your DH - how daft to interview him when clearly not what they wanted! Bad form. Tesco did this to my DH a couple of years ago - he had gone for a graduate trainee placement, not got one but "they wanted to offer him something else" so he hung on and hung on and eventually they sent him for a Senior Manager's post at the warehouse - him being a new graduate with no experience as they damn well knew! Of COURSE he didn't get it and the bloke interviewing him was very nice about it but what a waste of time!

madBad - lol at cocktail, ta muchly! all went well today, mission accomplished. Still got 4 more days to go!

Racing - am obviously seriously out of it - sad for you re. funeral but can't for life of me remember who it is for. Hope it goes well anyway.

Dad is definitely feeling the effects now - he's worried cos he's starting to doze off on the trains, which might result in him missing his stops but at least he gets 4 days off over Easter!

Jackbunnysmama · 09/04/2009 01:52

Cripes, I'm with Thumb, who died??? for you though Racing, ((((((((HUG))))))))

thumbbunny · 09/04/2009 01:54

Hello JBM - have you seen the thread on homoeopaths? what's your view? I'm resolutely not posting on it in case I get carried away...

thumbbunny · 09/04/2009 01:58

am going to bed now.. night!

Jackbunnysmama · 09/04/2009 02:01

Will check it out. I have a friend who is a Classical Homeopath. She's done me wonders. I may have to sit on my hands so I don't engage in fisticuffs...
Are you going to bed or going to bed? Either way, good luck and, errrr... sleep well!

mistlethrush · 09/04/2009 08:24

Apparently the presentation that he prepared (20mins) was 'not technical enough' - but that is because he wasn't interviewing for a position where he would spend all day doing programming - he wanted to be the interface between client and team, the problem solver, the manager and the solution deviser....

Never mind. He has a management course the week after next which should give him some additional qualifications that should help to get contract work at least.

Was a bit p'd off last night though - I had choir so heated up some leftovers for myself - MiL said to Dh 'shall we have a takeaway - you've had a bad day' - I thought 'thanks, yes, I've had a really great day! Been at work all day and had this news'.

Came back from choir, did a few htings and went to bed at a reasonable time. I thought dh was coming up - he didn't and I could hear the TV. He eventually came to bed at about 11.20 - then pulled the bedclothes and switched the light on and read a book for a bit . Of course, this morning, its me that has to get up, get breakfast for myself and ds and go to work - he's still having a lie in. I think that we might have words later when MiL is not around about pulling weight....

mistlethrush · 09/04/2009 09:54

Toasted crumpets with butter and honey with tea or coffe anyone? Might even stretch to hot chocolate....

daisy99divine · 09/04/2009 10:37

Mistle I am so sorry for your DH and what a cock up - and also that you are not being looked after....

Racing so sorry about the funeral but I am afraid I don't know who it is for either.... (((hugs)))) or appropriate pats etc anyway

Thumb I am here with my cocktail shaker for tonight...

Fancy some coffee anyone? and of course turkish apple tea for you Mistle - my mate and I brought a big sack home when we went to Turkey, but it lost something in translation, a bit like the fillipino rum that had been delicious on holiday

mistlethrush · 09/04/2009 10:48

Its interesting how some things don't travel isn't it Daisy - but, thanks to the magic of the tearoom, the apple tea is very nice thank you!

I have decided that I'm going to have a lie in tomorrow - and probably Saturday too! I haven't told dh yet - but I don't think that he could complain given that my only lie in over the last two weeks was until 7.30 when ds came up to tell me that he had finished his breakfast - that being after I had to ask dh to get up with him several times at 6.40 anyway!

Going to my parents, so might even get a bit of a lie in on Sunday and Monday too. Its going to be a bit interesting - they've been remodeling their house - 1/2 way through - so have lost the downstairs bathroom, but not yet replaced it with the new downstairs shower room that's going to be at the end of the new hall... So there is going to be only 1 loo (and bathroom) between 5 of us - although they are going to disinfect the 'builders loo' in case of emergency. I've already said that ds would be quite happy watering the plants in the garden - even though the neighbours get a good view (he won't care!)

mistlethrush · 09/04/2009 12:44

Pea and mint soup and a lewd roll anyone?

Jackbunnysmama · 09/04/2009 15:21

MT, that is such utter bollocks about your DH's job. Grrr.
Have a fun weekend though - - .
Are you still keeping up with starsnstripes on the other thread, BTW? I got sort of lost and am not sure what's going on and haven't time to read back...

I wouldn't mind some pea soup and a lewd roll with a birthday candle on it.
