Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

A Previous incarnation of Tea room may be found here

cmotd - I hope it's one of yours then - do you know if they have one at the Royal Marsden? (I like to hear about the technical side of things as well)
new car hey - hope it's a good one for you - I would love to have a new car but no point getting one now, need to wait until we get to Australia.

jacksmama - thats reassuring to hear, thank you - how old is your stepdad, do you mind me asking?
Here's hoping the snow disappears soon for you and it warms up - -6degC is too cold!

Thanks Daisy - I hope he copes well with it too.

JeremyClarksonLikesToTalkCars · 26/02/2009 18:10

Amber! Cmot! You are my kind of woman. I love it when ladies talk knowledgeably about cars. Would you like to see my carburettor?

cmotdibbler · 26/02/2009 20:15

Yes, we have several at both RM branches.

If he's having IMRT, then the side effects should be pretty low. The going forwards and backwards to the hospital can be tiring though

No, thank you Jeremy. I've heard about you and your carburettor. You may remember that you previously ran over my foot with your wheely case too.

Shall I crack open the Bolly ?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/02/2009 20:49

Oh, has Cmot gone? She was promising to open the Bolly.

And who is that, knocking on the door of Mellors' shed?

cmotdibbler · 26/02/2009 21:08

So, where were we. Oh yes

Oh, Jeremy, come back. I hold no grudges on wheely based foot injuries. Otherwise I'd be holding grudges for most of the UK based on the state of my work shoes. I'll talk to you about cubic capacity if you like

mistlethrush · 26/02/2009 21:25

I'll have a glass too please!

My FiL was treated for early protrate cancer when I got pregnant the first (unsucessful) time - I know as he had a new treatment which had a peasized thing that apparently added radiation to the relevant area - he was told by the consultant last time that something else would kill him before the prostrate cancer would (that was meant in a positive way!)

Fingers crossed for lots of fathers. Donk - hope the wait isn't too long and everything goes well.

I saw JC trying to get down the slide - but I think that he was a bit tall and was having difficulties - any idea what he's been doing?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/02/2009 21:28

Thank you, Cmot. Where have you been this week?

Donk and thumbwitch - still crossing my fingers for your dads.

Amber - that is very fine carving. Perhaps we could market these totem poles as part of the range of Tea Room Yurt heritage garden furniture? And maybe the young framers could lend us some of their woodwork skills too? After all, if we're making garden tables it will be important to get all the joints neatly mitred.

Would anyone care for a twiglet? Not you again, maked mohawk babies!

Jacksmama · 26/02/2009 21:41

Thumb - my stepdad was 66 when he had this treatment. My mum said he was mostly just tired when he was having it.

I don't especially want a twiglet (what are they BTW - always meant to ask) but would love a glass of Bolly, thank you!

mistlethrush · 26/02/2009 22:01

Twiglets - they look like twigs about 3 - 4mm diameter, with lumps here and there, about 3cms long. They are savoury biscuits which are fairly plain apart from the thin layer of marmite glaze over the top. You either love them or hate them! I'm with Paddington.

Donk · 26/02/2009 22:03

Eeeawww

It's all hurry up and wait at this end (well, in Australia) as Dad is now on the emergency list for today (tonight here). I hope I will know if he's scheduled for surgery before I go to bed. Sleeping will be a challenge!

Carrots anyone?

cmotdibbler · 26/02/2009 22:03

Nowhere ! It was DH's turn this week. Am glumly regarding my travel bookings for the next 4 months though - next week I get to pop to Rome to do a 1 hour presentation, and just had an email from my boss enquiring whether I can go to San Francisco to do a presentation the week after - for all of 4 hours max and can't do anything else round it to make the trip worthwhile as DH is going to the Gold Cup on the Friday and international rugby on the Sunday.

MT - the type of radiotherapy your FIL had is my specialist area

mistlethrush · 26/02/2009 22:41

He didn't share much - quite understandably - but I did have to avoid sitting near him when I was pregnant when he first had it (according to the information that I was given at the time...) I hope that we don't need to worry about this anymore!

Its strange who you meet where isn't it - the senior registrar on duty the day I had the scan 3 months after 1st mc happened to be a really good friend - she was hoping it wasn't me when she heard the symptoms from the ?houseman? that had seen me - having had an extreemly slow morning waiting in a waiting room that filled up and emptied out, things started happening rather quickly even though it was a Friday afternoon....

Donk - can I give your ears a stroke?

JeremyClarksonLikesToTalkCars · 26/02/2009 22:53

That Mellors is a bloody good bloke. He told me that there was a champagne and twiglet party going on in here.

Now, where's Cmot? She promised to talk to me about cubic capacity. And I'm hoping for a ride on her dad's tractor.

Donk · 26/02/2009 23:06

Ear strokes are always soothing MT

daisy99divine · 26/02/2009 23:10

Blimey am I too late?
What a night!
part prostrate cancer treatment and part Jezza and his hot rodding!

Gotta love it! No wonder people put their heads through the yurt flap and think what the hell is going on!

seriously, I wonder if we should put up a non-offensive advert, but I guess if people want to they will come

DontCallMeBaby · 26/02/2009 23:12

Evening, just popped in on the way back from my excursion to drink cider discuss literature in the pub.

Nakedmohawkbabies all under control I see.

CMOT - Gold Cup, my neck of the woods. DD was born on Gold Cup day, I was extremely concerned that the anaesthetist (shared between maternity and A&E) might be too busy tending to an inebriated race-going Irishman to look after me, but he was all mine after all.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/02/2009 23:12

Would anyone like a refill? Glass of champagne? Galvanised bucket of tea? Bottle of Bombay Sapphire and a straw?

Racingsnake · 26/02/2009 23:20

Baked Babies will be really good for the movie!

Yurt was an inspired idea.

Have been delivering teacher training to show that the internet is really cuddly and reliable and friendly and really good for finding stuff to use in the classroom. Sure I don't have to tell you how the actual training panned out.

Found another feel-good threadhere. There are some very interesting people out there. Think we should all drop in there and post too, because I am very curious about you lot.

daisy99divine · 26/02/2009 23:38

OOOh, a bit of bombay sapphire woudl be great!

Good to see you Racing, it's been a while. Is WS fully recovered now?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 27/02/2009 00:12

Racingsnake - I've added my five random facts. I am awestruck at your linguistic skills.

Here's the Bombay Sapphire and a clean straw, Daisy. What would you like, Racingsnake?

daisy99divine · 27/02/2009 00:53

I am currently trying to come up with 5 good and witty facts, that aren't just mimics of the ones above

(I can only speak one language and no so well..... sort of thing!)

daisy99divine · 27/02/2009 01:02

So, RS, you speak French and English, what are the other two?

Laughing at MadBad you are such a together woman that you ability to make yourself sound untogether (?) is a real skill!
