Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

1000 replies

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

A Previous incarnation of Tea room may be found here

No sign of any shortbread yet Perhaps I can encourage ds and dh to do some more cooking together when I get home with ds (I am meant to be trying to continue to work at home as I'm doing ft hours) without breaking down into reprimands and floods of tears like yesterday... Had to remove wailing child and administer a cuddle on the sofa wiht a book whilst dh sorted things out in the kitchen without any further 'assistance'. He had a very short fuse yesterday - probably understandably - but its very difficult for small dcs to cope with tiptoeing around in such circumstances. I think I have got better at dh with the distraction techniques...

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 15:09

Mt, oh bless - poor ds, and poor you too, and of course poor dh with the news.

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 15:09

Morning all,

Amber I've brought my specially delicious Mexican hot chocolate and British flapjack with me to the tearoom today. They're to compliment the shortbread that Gorionine has promised. I'm putting some on a tray and sending them down to the priest hole for you. [virtual hug emoticon]
(And BTW I think some people were definitely trying to be deliberate contrary on the Mirror thread. They are looking to attack/criticise: I don't think you had the wrong end of the stick at all.)

Daisy my thumb is on the mend, thanks fo rasking. I'm finally able not to wear the bandage at least. My thumb print my return eventually. Until it does I may avoid travel to/from the US as not to be flagged as a terrorist And there is very little chance of me cutting DS's hair, I just don't trust myself.

Mistlethrush about your man not getting the job. But I second the sentiments of Thumbwitch.

Jacksmama and I were working hard last night as virtual doulas for a girl in Lancashire who was in the early throes of labour, I am waiting avidly for news of her progress.

See here

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 15:11

I read that as...

'Mellors strides in wearing nothiing but a bone chest cloth and a long feathered headdress'

then was strangely disappointed when I reread it a second time because I couldn't believe what I was reading when I saw

'and buckskin trousers'

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 15:14

Have some flapjack and bit of hot chocolate Mistle. Hopefully your DH will be able to be more like himself by tonight. Is there no gardening/diy jobs you could get him to do (and thus feel like he is contributing to the house?)

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 15:17

He 'doesn't do' DIY - I do that when I have the time - likewise the garden! I even have to mow the lawn - talking of which, need to ensure that the mower is going to work - must get it serviced. He's not too bad round the house - but I would prefer that he spent time job hunting if he is doing it rather than anything else at the moment - although I know that he is at least walking the dog every day which is a very good thing (for both dh and the dog!)

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 15:19

Catita, I think you're right. I hadn't realised who one of the posters is/was (all these name changes confuse me horribly). Now I do, and I'm . I always end up feeling like a sitting target.

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 15:19

Now that's a sight that would have been worth seeing!

Oh ehgad, look out of the window ladies, Mellors is chasing the bison quite purposefully, his headdress streaming sexily in the breeze!

Lovely!

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 15:22

Bison in the garden? Thank goodness we moved away from the Bishop's prize gardens!

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 15:27

Oops, my slow uni connection is making me x post, sorry Amber, I was refering to Mellors, obviously. He does look rather fetching this morning.

And yes, I think you were "jumped" too. Stay here for a while with us and leave them to it.

Mistle: what does DH like to do when not jobhunting? Is he sporty or a film buff? Can you organise a treat for him? My Dh is a sucker for sandwich cake. Not that it helps with the underlying probs, but does make him feel loved. Much sympathy and hugs to you, you sound like you are trying very hard to be mummy, daddy and a life coach today.

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 15:32

Cat - he is actually very good in the kitchen - at the moment I'm trying to take over with ds when I'm not trying to work as a) ds can be quite trying when he's tired and b) it shares things out a bit more - and ds isn't necessarily the easiest thing to cope with when you're stressed anyway. I'm also trying to suggest things that ds likes doing that dh can 'help' with - although he doesn't seem to be quite as commited to 'helping' as I might be (cue pen on table and scribbled rather than carefully thought out card...)

daisy99divine · 04/03/2009 16:18

hello my lovelies!
Amber a big hug virtually and unthreateningly for you, don't know who was doing what to you but stay here, we will love you and care for you a while!

Catita read a bit of you and JM doing fab doula work, will read the rest when I have a chance, it is strangely fascinating reading things that unroll in real time, isn't it you two did a good job!

Mistle it's a bit unremetting for you isn't it? Hope you are keeping strong, you are doing a great job!

and hugs to Racing if Wriggle is still ill and sicky!

Think Mellors looks fab in his headdress, I Agree, he should Lose the Buckskin Trews!!

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 16:19

Well good luck with it all Mistle. I hope your DH comes with the rejection soon and can redouble his efforts to find a job.
In the meantime, don't try and do everything yourself, you'll only end up as tired and stressed as MJ and DH

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 16:35

Arrgh, I'm no good at staying in the priest hole. I need someone to sit on the lid for a while until I Stop Posting on That Thread and Being Very Silly.

Iced buns? Yes please

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 04/03/2009 17:16

Hello everyone. Would anyone else like an iced bun? These are lovely, daisy. Thank you.

I've had a weird afternoon. I had to go and fetch MadBadbaby from school as she'd banged her head in the playground and wanted to come home. Then, moments after we got home, my boss rang to discuss renegotiating my contract (in the way that I wanted, luckily).

I'm sorry that Amber's been having a bad time.

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 17:24

Now, stop it Amber, you're not going to make yourself feel any better by staying in the fray on the other thread. Don't punish yourself any more with it, you don't have to.

Go on, just stay here with us and enjoy the nice icebun MadBad has put out for you.

MellorstheGardener · 04/03/2009 17:38
amber32002 · 04/03/2009 17:40

Oh phew, thanks, Catita. I wrote loads about marriage and managed to delete it. Now I'm just talking about language which is quite different and feels safer. I wish I didn't have a brain that just wants to keep explaining things even when it's not good for me.

Iced buns are excellent, and go nicely with this cuppa.

Mistle, shame on you

daisy99divine · 04/03/2009 17:40

Daisy can't be heard over the chomping on the iced bun

Want a hand sitting on that priest hole lid!!!

Second concern re Racing

Madbad was it weird good or weird bad? hope MadBadBaby's head is ok

Any word on your first charge Doula Catita?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 04/03/2009 17:52

Well, Daisy, just weird. Surreal weird.

The weirdest aspect was when I was on the phone trying to sound like a high-achieving, kick-ass career woman, when MadBadBaby found a make-up bag in my bedroom, extracted its contents (a couple of, ahem, Lady Things) and asked very loudly 'what are these, mummy?' I had to snatch them away while trying to continue the conversation without an interruption.

The MadBadCranium is fine, luckily.

More tea, anyone?

Jacksmama · 04/03/2009 18:03

Amber, I'm sorry you're having a rough time with that thread, I looked at it but bogged down a bit since my knowledge of ASD is minimal at best and limited to wondering what the connection between ASD and vaccines really is. Do you have any input on that? (Don't reply if you're too stressed... I really would like to know but it can wait for another day.)

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 18:14

Ta very much.

Hi Jacksmama, how are you doing this morning?

I've just been back to Jen's chat but there is no news as yet of baby William. Still got all my fingers and toes crossed for her.

Amber, I often find explaining things often makes things worse. I just dig myself deeper into the mess of words. Plus, some people have already made up their minds and there is nothing you can do/say/explain to make them change it. Frustrating¨, I know

Jacksmama · 04/03/2009 19:33

Hi catita, I looked, too but nothing from jen yet. Wish I'd been on MN when I was in labour!!
I am knackered today. Jackbaby fell asleep at 7:30 pm (long day yesterday, short naps) but was dancing on our heads between 3 and 4 am. Aaaargh. I've got that slight sleep-deprivation headache and my eyes are puffy. I look like crap, I just realized . It's 11:30 am here and I'm still in my robe. But we are going swimming this afternoon so I see no reason to get tidied up.

UniS · 04/03/2009 19:41

Christmas- its our christmas dinner coz we were all too busy to do one before christmas and too skint to do one soon after christmas. By March we are mostly back to normal enough to contemplate a girls night out.
2 years ago we went to a turkish cafe- VERY nice food but a bit too exotic for one of our number! last year we played safe with a nice bistro type place ( good puddings), this year the ultra conservative eater is not with us so Mexican it is.

Mellors is quite getting into this first nation stuff isn;t he. Odd to think he is trying to keep up with a father figure who is 3 inches tall.

Amber- get back in that priest hole and stop digging. If you need to type come and be a bit inventive over here. I'm curious about what the NNMBs are up to down there and where the Bison is going to be accommodated.
Cat- so the more colorful teh blanket the better? is refugee style knitted squares a bit TOOO much colorfulness? I could ask dad to bring over the red and green and yellow and black 70s one they have.. that might be good.

Orange flapjack any one, they turned out rather better than teh choc and orange bread which is rather under done.

I'll be off for a bit now. I need DH to do stuff on this machine and I'm off to keep fit - or possibly die coughing, as I'm coldy and bunged up. kill or cure.

OP posts:
Donk · 04/03/2009 19:43

Carrot anyone? Amber?

Or a jaffa cake (they seem more popular!)

Aaaaaah! I needed that tea.

It was one of those days when I come home saying "who'd be a supply teacher?" I nearly quit! Sodding teenagers (well some of them)

Then I remind myself that I am GOOD at this job. Lots of schools say so. The students in those classes had the problems. Not me. But honestly, some days, its enough to make you want to give up and go home! And never go back.

I hope that Dad will get his results tonight(tomorrow).

Sorry you have been having a rough time Amber - shall I move my pile of hay over the priest hole lid? A curled up donkey is a pretty heavy thing to shift
