Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

A Previous incarnation of Tea room may be found here

Evening all.

Just dropping in briefly because WS ill AGAIN! AAAAAAAGH!! WHEN WILL IT END??

Only a cold I hope, but even so!

UniS · 03/03/2009 20:22

CMOT - send him as an owl for heaven sake- its not your problem if he hoots all day at nursery. Is it book day on thursdy then?

Amber- sorry- the young framers/ farmers thing was my typo. In reality only the script was by a young farmers club - the company were a perfectly normal am dram crowd. We did have the young farmers pop in one night but oh dear oh dear, musled and hunky they were not.

Mellors- what nice daffs- thank you. and in a handy galvanised bucket.

Not so naked mohawk babaies- well done boys, that was quick potty training, maybe bishops are good at it? Daddy is still here. hes letting you get on with things by yourselves as a bit of independnace is good thing for growing boys.

Cat- I do boy and DH hair cuts with electric clippers. Not hard, just remember to put a plastic comb thing on or you will scalp them. DH doesn't let me do his side burns since I got them lop sided once. He does them himself.
Is very quick n easy. One saturday a month I do both of them before they shower. Takes about 5 min each. Boy has slightly longer cut in summer to stop him sun burning ( very pale fine hair) 18mm instead of 12mm.

Oh, I'm going to a mexican theme night with the Mums and tots mums Christmas dinner next week. Would droopy black mustaches be totally naff along with blankets and sombreros?

Gori- Wotcha, how's tricks then? welcome to teh yurt.

Now are there any of those muffins left. I think I deserve one after my afternoon of domestic godessness. baked 2 loaves of bread ( one choc& orange flavour) made flapjacks and a cottage pie from scratch with the aid of a 2 year old and not much arguing.

Aargh! I've been broadbandless all day, finally drag myself into the yurt and then discover that the Young Farmers are not all muscular hunks. I cannot stand so much reality!

Will anyone join me in some consolatory champagne? And who is going to prepare a synopsis of tea room/yurt history for Gorionine?

mistlethrush · 03/03/2009 22:56

I'll join you MadBad.

I told MJ about book day (which I found out about on Sun at the party - somehow we didn't get the letter) and he told me that he wanted to be Christopher Robin - which I thought was a very good choice especially as he has a pooh and a rabbit - so can just wear his wellies, shirt and shorts!

Ds and I went for a hair cut on Sunday. He gets the back and sides as short as you can cut with fingers (last time he had it done with the clippers but I think I probably prefer it done with fingers!) and a bit longer on top and to the front - he has just got such a lovely natural shape to the front if you cut it according to his hair line (ie same length, not trying to do a fringe!)

Gorionine - I look forward to trying the shortbread!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 03/03/2009 23:06

Cheers, MT!

Jacksmama · 04/03/2009 01:52

Hi Gorionine, welcome to the madhouse tea room! Hope we haven't scared you off .

Jackbaby has had about four or five haircuts - he was born with a ton of hair, and it is a gorgeous colour (soft blondish) and he has such a lovely head shape that my girl friend who is my stylist cuts it with clippers on the sides and back and then does the top with scissors, so he looks ever so preppy, LOL!

CMOT, happy travelling - good for your for upgrading to business. A trip that short, I would, too.

Bolly, anyone?
[champagne cork popping emoticon]

Catitainahatita · 04/03/2009 03:27

Unis blankets and sombreros plus moustaches (sp) sounds very Mexican to me. The more colourful the blanket the better. A toy donkey (burro) might be a nice touch. It's that or "Speedy González".... which is the same but with a mouse mask!

Am intriged though, "Mums and tots mums Christmas dinner next week"??? Which universe/time zone do you inhabit?

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 06:50

There's days when I SO wish I had a brain that would store a) details and b) who's who at the same time. It would make it so much easier to remember who said what even from reading it a few seconds ago

Racingsnake, how's WS doing?
Catita, how is your thumb, dare I ask? You said it's not recovered yet - is it at least behaving better?

Nice pot of breakfast tea and more toast available for those that want it?

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 09:00

Morning Amber - yes please on the tea and toast front - and I've also had one of 'those' moments that required backtracking as I had clearly missed something... (I think because it had 'Christmas' in the sentence I blanked it from my mind - there must be at least seven months before I have to start thinking about that again, surely).

Dh didn't get the job so we were both a bit miserable last night - I spent the evening half watching the film but mainly job hunting... Did find one for £180,000 (there was no comma, I started off missing one of the 0s off as I'm not used to thinking of salaries that long...) - that would do rather nicely thank you!

I then have done my early morning waking up too early and just got up and sorted some bits and pieces out and had a cup of tea without MJ squeaking - before going and getting him up ('I'm too tired to walk downstairs, will you carry me?')!

daisy99divine · 04/03/2009 11:29

Oh, Mistle I am so sorry about the job, or lack of it. Gloomy. But perhaps that means the £180,000 one is for you
Hope Mr Mistle doesn't fall into the slough of despond at being turned down

Racing lovely to see you albeit quickly poor Wriggle, things have been tough for a while haven't they? How's Mr Racing's lungs?

CMOT happy travels. Go the upgrade!!

JM how are you doing? Are you feeling better? Have you started back at work yet?

UniS I thikn sombrero's and hats and moustaches sound fab. Be careful on the old tequila though sounds like a dangerous night!

Catita promise me you won't try and cut your DS's hair???!!! How is your thumb?

Waves to all others, has anyone seen Tea lately? DAisyBoy has only had one hair cut he loved it and has started saying "MUMMY I need a hair cut!!" so I guess we are going to go again soon

HEre's a lovely pot of coffee in the artful red enamel jug

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 12:05

Anyone mind if I hide in the Yurt Priest Hole for a while?

thumbwitch · 04/03/2009 12:19

MT - about Mr MT not getting that job - work on the principle that it's because there is a much better one just around the corner for him!

Amber - what's up? why do you need to hide?

morning everyone else!

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 13:09

Its a bit echoy in here this morning isn't it!

Any one for some soup and a roll?

The £180,000 was potentially for him - I go through job specs and tick off things in my mind and ticked off a lot on this one At least I've got confidence in his abilities.

Am trying to think of some other opportunities for him though... He would really like to be a consultant. But its a really crap time to start doing that - but I'm even finding contract jobs that he might be interested in. If we can get some decent contracts to last us out until things start to improve, that would be a start...

Amber - why the Priest hole? I hope Mr Amber hasn't been trying to do too much.

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 13:15

No, tis just me overreacting to the last few weeks and getting upset about something on MN for no reason. Just need to be somewhere quiet for a bit. I'll be ok....and yes please for soup and a roll, if I can grab some quickly?

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 13:37

There you go - and here is a cup of tea too...

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 13:42

Thanks muchly...

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 13:43
thumbwitch · 04/03/2009 13:51

Has someone been beastly to you directly, amber, or just in passing?

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 13:59

I can see why you've holed up Amber. Very interesting discussion, but rather a lot of sides taken, and different interpretations of the words (fwiw, I agree with yours!).

Its interesting to wonder where one thing starts and another stops too isn't it - for instance, if I was fed a lot of chocolate now I think that I would probably be a risk to those around me. The bit that is 'me' loses control and someone else takes over... Goodness knows what would have happened if it hadn't been caught and recognised when it was (I was 5) - and I've recognised the seriousness of the reaction and decided that its not a risk worth taking. (I've not had any chocolate now for over 11 years I think - I used to be able to have the odd bit very occasionally, but the last amount (1/2 a thornton's truffle unfortunately - not even really good strong stuff) had such a bad result that I've not had the smallest sliver since)

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 14:08

TW, neither really. It's just SN stuff about some newspaper article in the Mirror but it's bringing back too many memories for me at the moment.

Many thanks for the candle, TW.

thumbwitch · 04/03/2009 14:24

I love flame-staring, don't you? I have a real fire and love just staring into the flames sometimes. Reminds me of a fairy story in a book I had - beautiful illustrations - of a fire princess and a rain prince who wanted to get together (they did in the end)

Sorry you got bogged down in that discussion amber - I won't say anything more about it here but offer you more distance-pats. And maybe a warm fuzzy or two.

amber32002 · 04/03/2009 14:29

MT, yes, indeed so. Tw, thanks muchly also.

Difficult to explain about the flame-staring thing. We can't cope with flickering lights very well - it overrides our brains somehow.

Did this priest hole originally have American Indian cave paintings, by the way?

thumbwitch · 04/03/2009 14:33

sounds like you are sharing it with NMBs, Amber!

Flamestaring is very soothing. It's not flickering in the same way as artificial light, there isn't the same rhythm to it, and you can see "pictures" in the flames sometimes. That's my reasoning for it anyway (can't stand flickering lights, get headaches very quickly!)

Mellorsthegardenerofsorts · 04/03/2009 15:04

Eh up ladies!

Now where is that ruddy bison? It won't stand still long enough for me to dance round it

Aye, there it be. Must be getting back. Have a pow wow to prepare for
