Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

Yes, but I am swanning off leaving him with DS and juggling his meetings to fit into the nursery day. His point was that my boss ought to pay for business class. I laughed hollowly as my business unit have never been allowed to book in business, unless you can find an ultra cheap deal for ultra long haul.

mistlethrush · 03/03/2009 13:39

CMot - no you're not, you're going to a proper business meeting!

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 13:48

Oh, CMOT, sounds like you have enough miles to get in some trips for all the family too?

Defo go for the upgrade to business class when you have only 24 hours in San Fran - you'd be mad not to! And you are coming back to a weekend of DS with no break at all....

Yes, DaisyBoy canters round the room singing "Brave brave Sir Robin" endlessly, perhaps we should teach him the rest.....on holiday my Dad (usually mild) said "If I hear Brave Brave Sir Robin once more I might not be responsible for my actions!"

thanks for the hot chocolate!

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 13:49

heh, Mistle, sounds like UniS and the Young Framers panto has come into the TeaRoom

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 13:50

by the way, I have just (I think) invited someone else into the tea room so if a strange (but non animal) name pops up be nice!!!

oh, but of course, it's the tea room what else could be do!

mistlethrush · 03/03/2009 14:16

What sort of muffins are they daisy? Cinnamon and rasin or lemon by any chance?

(BTW saw a 'quick muffin' recipe in the recipies section earlier this morning that might just have to try....)

Gearing up for a busy end to the week - two Pampered Chef events on consecutive nights which could be interesting - dh will have to do some sorting out during the day for me!

I do think that the nmb look cute in their big boy pants - and they seem to have colour coordinated with their war paint too! Although some of them do appear to be using the sunscreen that cricketers seem to like using - perhaps its all the influence from foreign climes on this thread!

CMOTDibbler · 03/03/2009 14:17

Currently, I have 270 000 miles - and that's before this big group of trips, and having 'paid' to upgrade round trip to San Fran and Toronto. So enough for us all to do most things ! But I never want to fly anywhere on holiday so they do tend to mount up, especially as its often cheaper to do budget flights round Europe as you have to pay the taxes on all miles flights anyway.

DS needs a costume for Red Nose Day according to the letter from nursery. I think he'd like to be an owl, but will they find it rather wearing if he only hoots all day ? Don't really want to buy him a TV character one - he would only want to be Mr Tumble (weird, much as I love Justin) or someone off Chuggington (not possible)

thumbwitch · 03/03/2009 14:25

CMOTD - if he's Wol from Winnie the Pooh, he can talk as well as hoot - that would be ok, wouldn't it?

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 14:38

CMOT - make him Wol!!! go on!
you only need some brown material with a hole for head and some black pen to make feathers on the front?

And who's to say that he won't hoot all day if that is what he feels like doing whatever he is dressed as!!!

Amber the Young Framers / Farmers was a bit of a joke. UniS did lighting for the Farmers Hunk panto but also did an excellent type we spent an immature amount of time speculating whether they were at it with a fret saw mitring corners all day or were dressed up like Inspector Cluseau accusing each other of murder

I am afraid it coincided with the unhpapy time you were rushing 100s of miles each day to sit by poor Mr Amber's side. So you missed a bit of time wasting fun!

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 14:39

CMOT - can you sell your airmiles? I know as a kid we used to buy them in Dalton's Weekly {age alert!]

Mistle = lemon muffins and cinammon & raising sound great. Indeed, how clever of you to realise that is what they are

Yes, I think the NMBs are looking rather fine!

amber32002 · 03/03/2009 14:43

Daisy, that does explain the men in the corner of the stable block armed with a fret saw who are having a bit of a tussle with some farmers with pitchforks, now you mention it . I think I might wander out and ask them to keep the noise down a bit...

CMOTDibbler · 03/03/2009 14:54

I think I will go for Wol. It may have to be ordered though as I know I don't have any brown material, and I have very little time to do anything.

He will indeed just hoot/maa/mew/cluck as it suits him, although I think he does less baby lamb play at nursery than at home

Catitainahatita · 03/03/2009 15:01

Morning all,

Now that's a proper tea-room welcome if I ever I saw one. We must make sure there is plenty more if the person Daisy invited drops in.
Lovely, thanks very much Mellors.

CMOTD: I second (or do I mean "third"?) the Wol idea. He can chat and hoot away to his hearts content. Much sympathy for the travelling disaster you face this week. I hope you manage to make it through more or less in one piece.

DH took DS for a hair cut on Sunday afternoon. He came back with a more or less bald baby: the stylist had been at him with the electric razor on the 2 setting!! My baby is all gone and instead I have a (very cute looking) one-year-old-thug . Am distraught.... Think I will have another muffin to make myself feel better.

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 16:14

poor you! is the shaven head look good for the heat? [hopeful?}

CMOT yes, of course buy outfit it's just another one of those items I no longer know where to buy now we have no woolies...

(Where are you getting welly boots by the way?? )

Gorionine · 03/03/2009 16:20

Hello daisy, thanks for the link on other thread. I am just popping to say hello. Is it ok if I come tomorrow, I will bring home made shortbread![bribery emoticon]

amber32002 · 03/03/2009 16:46

Hi Gorionine
Shortbread would be very welcome indeed...we'll get the kettle on for you.

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 16:54

Hi Gorionine and welcome!
yes, tomorrow and shortbread sounds fab!

We may even get out the porcelein plates and doilies for you

amber32002 · 03/03/2009 16:59
CMOTDibbler · 03/03/2009 17:04

Hi Gorionine - welcome to the mad house tea room.

I have ordered an owl costume and brown leggings from ebay, so that it all sorted now. I wanted a brown long sleeved t shirt too, but that is obv too much to ask

I buy wellies for DS from the garden centre - he is currently sporting ladybird ones, although mysteriously one of the antennae fell off in the car last week . Ever the style setter, I buy mine at the feed merchants as they last ages and are a tenner

I may join in via the miracles of wifi tomorrow - as long as my life is spared by the Italian taxi drivers

Catitainahatita · 03/03/2009 17:11

Daisy: yes, DH says that its the most comfortable way ot be. He suggests I join them to make a threesome I'm not convinced.

As for buying costumes: I bet you can find a great variety on line. Which seeing as CMOTD is more than a little time poor this week is probably the best option.

Here for example they have many animals, no owls though. But lambs yes and also a donkey for being Eeyore.

here is an owl mask

an owl outfit

Catitainahatita · 03/03/2009 17:14

Oops, x post. Glad to hear you have it sorted CMOT. Ebay doesn't exist here, didn't cross my mind, but obviously the best option.

Nice to see you Gorionine. Looking forward to the shortbread tomorrow. Will bring extra lovely hot chocolate with add cinnamon to go with it.

daisy99divine · 03/03/2009 17:17

oh Catita, those links are fab. I love the bumble bee in the third link but the best is the first link - all the little actions going on - the first chick and then the range of lions! Priceless!

Gotta go, very long and boring seminar coming up....

thumbwitch · 03/03/2009 18:11

catina - to hear about your baby's haircut - I had my DS's hair snipped a few weeks back for the first time by my hairdresser and she was very considerate about not taking off too much so that I didn't get the same sort of shock that you did!

Mind, it needs doing again now(ish) - but it is much better having it snipped off slower imo

Catitainahatita · 03/03/2009 18:36

Yes, not having to go back soon is another of DH's excuses vis-a-vis the haircut. DS is not keen on sitting still. He has had his hair cut before (at Christmas)and it was a traumatic experience for all concerned. He screamed and screamed louder and for longer than he has ever done at the variety of vaccines and jabs he has suffered until now.

According to DH the machine did the job in less than 5 mins and beind shaven has the advantage of not needing any work done at it for many weeks. Plus, he said, [after my initial rant had given way to silent outrage] that we can get a razor and do it ourselves! By this he means me, of bloody course. Apparently I can do father and son at the same sitting.

I'm all for saving money, but shudder to think of myself armed with an electric razor near DS's head (My thumb is still not recovered from my attempts to hack it off yet...)
Still, perhaps I don't have the same qualms in relation to DH
