A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

yes, fingers crossed for WS here too, Racingsnake - hope her tum settles down.
I remember having food poisoning a few years back and I couldn't keep a thing down, not even water, for several hours - I even phoned the emergency doc but they told me not to worry until it had been going on for 24hours. The only thing I could do was lie on the floor with my tongue in the glass of water/ginger ale and then take the teeniest of sips as it got slowly better. Don't think that would work for WS though...

Racingsnake · 18/02/2009 19:21

Oh, a ((hug)), please!

She has already perked up a bit and drunk various sips of different liquids. She is at the moment sitting up watching DVDs for the first time in two days. Although she looks a bit bilious. Fingers crossed it all stays where she's put it.

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 18/02/2009 19:26

Ginger ale is good. I've bee so ill all I could so was stick my tongue in it and try to roll a bit around in my mouth.

Here's another suggestion, this is what we used yonks ago when I was a nursing student to rehydrate babies:
a pint of apple juice
1 big tablespoon of sugar (don't bother rubbing the colour off if it's brown - sorry TW )
1 teaspoon of salt
1 pinch of baking powder

Mix it all up and add some water so it's a little less sweet, or fizzy water, or ginger ale, and a little lime juice.

Offer sips.

I hope she'll be all right without hospital [feeling green at the thought emoticon]

And here are as many (((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) as you need - covered in maple syrup, even.

amber32002 · 18/02/2009 19:39

Praise be...dh's had all the tests and they say he's one of the very, very lucky ones who are going to be ok. Long recovery, but he should be fine.

Thank you all SO much for helping to keep me going through all of this

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 18/02/2009 19:41

Oh Amber, I'm sooooo glad!!!!!!!!
Such good news!!!!

(Hugs or whatever works for you!!)

Racingsnake · 18/02/2009 20:12

Amber I am also so glad! Actually feeling rather tearful but that could be your news on top of a couple of sleepless nights.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 18/02/2009 20:17

That's fantastic news, Amber! A special non-invasive tea room hug and friendly wave to you and Fine Lad! Hope your dh makes good progress from now on!

Good news too (fingers crossed) about Wrigglesnake. Am crossing all fingers and toes that she won't have to spend a night in hospital.

There's some champagne here and fresh cheese straws. Would anyone care to participate? I think we've already established that they are all health foods and count as part of our 5 a day. (And it's just occurred to me that gin is also a fruit, as it is made from berries).

UniS · 18/02/2009 20:44

tunnocks- AKA cardboard and glue. Yummy. I do prefer the dark choc ones. Thank you for sharing donk.

Thumb- glad you have heat again. no fun without.
Your right- that washing sugar gag is a VERY nerd thing. I did have my suspicions it might be the case tho ( the sugar, not you being a nerd).
I make "brown " bread by adding a handful of wholemeal to white flour, wouldn;t dream of buying " brown" flour.

I didn;t get any nice smelly herbs at teh garden centre, sorry, we ended up at B&Q. I did find an Igor tho, so have installed him in the corner to help mellors. I find an Igor is very handy about the house.

Good news Amber. Am V please to hear your DH should pull through OK.
Hugs, tea and muffins to you all.

Was working yesterday and this morning. picked boy up from friends house at 2pm cue meltdown cos he didn;t want to leave. Ho hum, he screamed all the way home, I put him to bed. 10 mins later a pleasant child walked out of the bedroom and asked for some breakfast!
We spent the rest of the afternoon in the workshop making a "space rocket" and had a lovely time, now covered in paint and should go and wash the brushes out before dh gets home from bike club ride.

minor rant- why when you give people a perfectly good on line form ( which generates an e-mail with all the details I need) does the 1st person to register for the event do so by post and missing some info and not paying for one of the people they are registering. ARRRRGH. Need to reword part of the web site I think. www.unicycle.org.uk/buc

DontCallMeBaby · 18/02/2009 21:00

TW, am so not disabused, it just makes farkin' yummy meringues, so it's frequently what I have in the house (not taking sugar in tea/coffee, and knowing few people who do) Anyway, you'll be telling me next that iced raisin buns (aka snail buns) are not the perfect form form of nutrition - simple carbs (icing), complex(ish) carbs (bun) and fruit (raisins).

Anyway, the finished product was a bit delish. And DD was returned, or rather I saw her coming home, went round, reclaimed her carseat and trainers (trashed) and then hung around for several G&Ts and a Reception/Year 1 in-house disco featuring AC/DC, Kylie, Girls Aloud and, erm, other stuff. DH had to drag us home kicking and screaming (okay - me).

cmotdibbler · 18/02/2009 22:26

Yay for Mr Amber ! I am so glad that he will be OK

DCMB - of course raisin buns are a complete meal. Just like Pimms gives you 5 portions of fruit and veg

JM - no Trader Joes here alas. I make a point of looking for them when this side of the atlantic. Other people come to the US to buy jeans and Ipods. I come looking for tights, chebe bread, and Tinkyada pasta

Did someone say Bolly ?

mistlethrush · 18/02/2009 22:38

Amber - so pleased to hear your news

RS - little and often is best. I hope that you manage to stay at home OK.

I would like some champagne, cheese straws, and chocolate - just about right this evening I think...

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 18/02/2009 22:47

Yes, it is indeed Bolly.

Cadburys Buttons, anyone?

Cmot - what is so enticing about American tights?

thumbwitch · 18/02/2009 23:19

Amber that's great news - hurrah!

I am soooo sad - I am just watching American Pie, the bit where the lead character ends up playing trombone at band camp and he is so bad...

DCMB - no, I can't agree that iced raisin buns are a complete meal - you need to split them in half and butter/clotted cream them to include the requisite amount of fat!

Did I mention that DS slept really well last night? Well, he went down like a dream tonight at "normal" time i.e. about 9:15pm and not a peep so far (touches wood really fast)

Am so glad we have an Igor to help Mellors - Igors are so useful in powercuts..

thumbwitch · 18/02/2009 23:21

Madbad, however upownarseish connoisseurish one is about chocolate, buttons are always welcome!

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 19/02/2009 01:15

Callebaut choc anyone?

And yes please on the Bolly! Ta muchly.

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 19/02/2009 01:16

We're filling the thread up again rather quickly, aren't we? Who's going to start Tearoom The Fifth?

cmotdibbler · 19/02/2009 01:25

The lure of american tights is that they are more available in tall and even extra tall, at prices that don't make me worried about actually wearing the things

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 19/02/2009 01:26

If you run out, let me know what style and size.
(Tights, not chocs)

cmotdibbler · 19/02/2009 01:41

Aww, thank you JM. For better or worse, I'll be this side of the atlantic fairly frequently this year, so should keep stocked up on my essentials

How are you feeling today ?

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 19/02/2009 05:17

Sore but not too bad. Went for a walk on Crescent Beach with mum and Jackbaby. Lovely weather, sunny and sort of warm with a nice breeze. Mmmmm. Been suffering with cabin fever. I don't do "down" very well - I'm used to being the one who does everything. But the fear of things not healing perfectly is keeping me off my feet. Which is probably a good thing.

amber32002 · 19/02/2009 06:40
Racingsnake · 19/02/2009 06:56

Just woken up to discover that WS must have slept from about 2 till about 6 and much less drowsy. Has drunk a little. I think we have avoided hospital!

mistlethrush · 19/02/2009 08:36

RS - just a word of warning - keep it simple, don't expect anything other than drinks to go down today... Took ds a week to get back to fairly normal from when he started getting better. She'll put the weight on that she lost eventually - the main thing is still fluids...

So glad she's feeling better though.

Any one else for some fluids? Cup of tea Amber - I see you narrowly avoided the Maple syrup cache too. Do you have any idea when dh might be allowed to transfer to a closer hospital (I am assuming here that you're not so out in the sticks that 100 miles is your closest hospital, but it could be of course)?

amber32002 · 19/02/2009 09:08

MT, it's 50 miles from us, but I've had to do the journey twice a day for some of it, hence the 200 miles. Looks like he'll be out of hospital completely this week once the final MRI scan is done to confirm the other ones (goodness me, he'll be the best scanned man in the UK!)

mistlethrush · 19/02/2009 09:26

Whoohooo - fingers crossed that he'll be home soon then Amber. At least then you won't have the extra mileage and travelling and will just have him at home. Do you know yet how much care you are going to have to give him or how long he'll be convalescent for?

Would you like some tea and toast - I've got honey on mine, would you like the same or some homemade jaM?
