A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Justa - I am clearly a horrible mother too - I know that he really needs breakfast to set him up for the day and if he doesn't have it he'll be really hungry. I don't insist that he eats everything of all things up and I don't insist that he eats a certain amount of everything on his plate at lunchtime or in the evening. But breakfast is different...!!!

The other day he had a variety of different things on his plate, including a small amount of the red cabbage that you do with vinegar. I'd only put a small amount on as he told me he didn't like it. I put the plate in front of him... 'I don't like that' .. 'well, just leave it then'. MJ proceeded to pick a single piece up and eat it, then a few pieces, then a big forkful - and demanded 2nds before having anything else!!!! So I don't necessarily believe anything he says in relation to food.

He has also, in the last 3 months or so, suddenly decided that he can eat potato - I'm not sure what it was before, but he wouldn't eat potato in any form except crisps (not something high up on his diet sheet!) or the occasional chip - but he would only pick at those. However, he has now decided that he will eat them - and it makes it so much easier.

afternoon my lovelies!
Thank you T42 and jacksmama for bunny pic and lovely thoughts - I made a mistakte in my my post, it was 19m ago, not 9 but still. thoughts and bunny pic much appreciated.

I have been to the dentist this afternoon and amazingly she actually repaired my broken tooth! And with a white filling (was dead scared she was going to say it was another crown job). I was quite shocked that the cost of an amalgam filling is nearly half that of the composite - and I thought, I'm not paying that much for a load of mercury to go in my mouth! So composite/white it was. Just waiting now for the numb lip to come back so I can have a drink/ something to eat!

DS behaved like a little star with my friend, who came to mind him - she is like a surrogate grandma to him, bless her. And now he is finally asleep, having fought it all day. But not before he begged for more "bubbas" (bubbles) and I discovered that a numb lip makes blowing bubbles pretty tricky!

daisy99divine · 09/02/2009 16:41

glad you are ok
so sorry I totally missed your sad Mum news last night, there I was whittering about bus boarding cats.... you must think me mad

Tea, I didn't write profile, just wanted you to see pics, boo will have to try harder

Right, taking DaisyBoy out for a last snowman with Mellors. Due to the magic of hte tea room the snow here is still just right, unlike in RL!!!

(have the clergy gone? I think it's time...)

ThumbLoveWitch · 09/02/2009 16:46

daisy, can't see your pics on your profile - have you made them visible to people?

daisy99divine · 09/02/2009 16:50

Mistle - I would do timer for everything if we could. That and marching. Although marching while eating is a bad plan. Obviously

But I often allow a lap of the kitchen on his motorbike in between mouthfuls or main and pudding depending on how we are getting on...

OP posts:
ThumbLoveWitch · 09/02/2009 17:00

I have still got DS on alternate spoonfuls of "dins" (the savoury part) and "bikkit" (his milk and no-sugar biscuits) as being the only way to get all of both bowlfuls down him. Otherwise, he refuses the savoury after the 3rd or 4th spoonful (sometimes after the 1st!). Not a good habit to get into, I'm sure and I hope to get him out of it soon. He's only young still....

amber32002 · 09/02/2009 19:04

Daisy, yes, I think we are clergyless, apart from Rev. Slightly worried about someone doing a lap of the kitchen on his motorbike - I think we need to train Mellors out of that habit as it frightened the life out of Mrs C, and racingpig has burrowed under the sideboard.

cmotdibbler · 09/02/2009 19:11

I join you from a salubrious hotel restaurant in Essex tonight. MNetting whilst eating dinner on one's own is much more pleasant than my usual book reading. Somehow, I feel less like a Billy No Mates than usual.

Last night I was in Norwich, and drove over there after putting DS to bed. Having mocked DH for making me put blankets/sleeping bag/boots etc etc, the traffic ground to a halt half way there and we sat in the snow for 45 minutes as people had skidded off the road. So I sat in my cozy blanket, ate crisps, and listened to 'Murder must Advertise'. And vowed not to mock DH for, ooh, days.

Two tables down is a woman with a 6 month old trying to have a catch up meeting with her overseas boss whilst baby throws bread off its tray. I really feel for her

amber32002 · 09/02/2009 19:29

A salubrious hotel?!

teafortwo · 09/02/2009 19:35

OH YOU ARE IN MY AREA OF THE WORLD CMOT - I am an Essex gewl!!!!

Shall we have an Essex night in honour of cmot????

I think it would be fun...

Here are a few things to start the ball rolling

cmotdibbler · 09/02/2009 19:36

I (in a spirit of minimising my travel expenditure this week as I have two hotel nights, 500 miles driving and two flights to deal with) went for the 'Early Bird' el cheapo menu, and as there wasn't much gf on it, had a chicken salad, then fruit salad.

Nights like tonight and last night make me want to thump people who comment that they'd love to do business travel.

What is suprising about the rice ? I did my mums savory rice a few weeks ago for the children when we had a visiting child, and friend (whose mum was a SAHM) was fascinated to see my 'peer in fridge and throw into pan' recipe passed on from my WOHM

cmotdibbler · 09/02/2009 19:37

It's Colchester Tea. Is that good or not ?

mistlethrush · 09/02/2009 19:41

Waves at CMot - I hope supper is OK and you don't have to dodge any rusks!

Justa - ds is 4 in April. Same county, same ds age - we really will have to try that coffee sometime! We also get told what good table manners he has at school - quite how I really don't know because they can be appalling at home!

At one stage at breakfast I was giving him a spoonful then letting him do two circuits around the table before the next - just too much energy!

TLW - sorry about tooth - hope it all feels better soon. In terms of savoury and sweet, ds learned at an early age that unless sufficient savoury went down, he didn't get anything sweet! Still holds true now - he doesn't need to finish things, but he has to do reasonably...

amber32002 · 09/02/2009 19:43

Ah I see your WOHM took the same view as me on Rice Surprise, then. Take rice, surprise yourself by throwing in various veg etc from fridge, add a bit of Tuna and some black pepper, and hey presto, Rice Surprise.

I did enough years of business travel. Never again. The 3am get-to-the-airport-for-Aberdeen run was my least favourite.

Ah, just time for a glass of something...

teafortwo · 09/02/2009 20:05

Oh yes - Colchester is very good!

The birth place of this band...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0Xl0ZEKJzo

A wonderful zoo

and of course a castle!!!!!

cmotdibbler · 09/02/2009 20:39

One glass of Merlot later, and back with recharged laptop to the bar area which is the only bit with Wifi.

I have a 4am wakeup on Wednesday in order to go to Amsterdam for the morning. Can't complain too much as we chose it (going with colleage who has 3 children, but at 7 year intervals due to birth trauma of first) as the flight times meant we could be home in time for tea, so only missing one end of the day.

I will look for the castle on my way to the hospital tomorrow. Based on the amount of rain today, may need a boat for that.

DS has discovered the joy of making popcorn, and when I phoned home tonight refused to speak to me on account of being busy cooking

Time for champagne ?

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 09/02/2009 20:55

Tea - I just knew that when you promised us an Essex band it would be Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Thank you! And if we're constructing the perfect Essex stereotype, we must include these.

It's definitely champagne o'clock. Who'd like some? I'm imagining that Cmot has a headstart on the rest of us as she is actually in a bar.

But we have twiglets.

cmotdibbler · 09/02/2009 21:00

I'd like to point out that in RL, it is just me and the laptop - no wine involved now.

I'm on a search for an evening dress tonight - all ideas for a 5'9", size 12, neon white woman who needs to go to FIL's 70th party and look foxy, very welcomed.

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 09/02/2009 21:10
cmotdibbler · 09/02/2009 21:15

Not too high - after all this is a family event - but certainly enough that evil SIL can't make any snide comments.

Lack of nork and skin shade do mean that strapless isn't my favoured look, and although willing to pour myself into control garments if necessary, I do have a gut bit of a tum which I would prefer to conceal rather than control so that I can eat more. And not wake DS up when we get back to the hotel room by swearing whilst trying to extricate myself

Was it nice in the Home for the Bewildered TMBD ? I was looking at my work diary and thinking about just checking myself in

teafortwo · 09/02/2009 21:29

www.nougatlondon.co.uk/nougat_content.html

I am quite impressed by nougat this season... maybe something from here, cmot?

mistlethrush · 09/02/2009 21:42

T42 - I love the black one with the wide belt style embroidery just underneath the bust, also like the first of the pale beige ones after the black ones... Its difficult to tell in terms of skin tone though whether these would suite a neon-white skin tone

I've found another bottle of champagne down here skulting behind the sofa - anyone want another?

daisy99divine · 09/02/2009 21:43

oh CMOT I do agree with you about business travel. my grimmest was Gloucester. Was in evil hotel and when I came out at 7pm to find something to eat, there was nothing still open.

All the others stayed in spa hotel 20 miltes outside town and laughed at me

I am 5'9" but not size 12. More like 14. My arms and lack of norks can turn my top into a 12 sometimes though (whistful)

I think Monsoon is hard to beat for tall foxy but flowy (feel like pjs) I have couple of dresses from there that I have worn for yonks. Also what about East? More pricey but if a special day?

Amber don't worry. DaisyBoy is very good on his motorbike. He has borrowed it from only who is 4 and has it on trust for next cousin who is 1 so he treats it with kid gloves and occasionaly "confiscates it" from himself if he feels he might bang it into things

Thumb - don't know about the piccies. I put all mates to see them (you included) not sure what has gone wrong....
