A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

In contrast, ds is just a slut!!!! . I spend time at the swimming pool trying to remove ds from other children's parents... He likes 'making friends' with other children and their parents. Today's 'friends' were a father (who had rather a large tatoo), (along with a 5yo dd)...

ThumbLoveWitch · 08/02/2009 22:50

Daisy: RPG = role-playing games - took me a while to get it as well, was only when someone mentioned D&D (and I knew that was Dungeons and Dragons) that I got it!

daisy99divine · 08/02/2009 22:56

Thank you Thumb - I have never had involvement of any sort - so you dress in leather

Mistle, glad DS has been having fun! I have taken DaisyBoy swimming a couple of times- he talks about it endlessly before we go, while getting changed and afterwards. In the pool he clings to me like a total marsupial and won't let me even get his bottom wet

Zazen - laughed at your "outing" on the other thread. I have thought that but good on you

and Racing what you said on the other thread was lovely and I am delighted if you have found support and help in amongest the flying bishops/ ha has and naked men

Racing - can you not complain about 'lack of suction' and decide that you need a new hoover is required? I think that we might soon be going for a new hoover - we got ours when we got married, which is quite a significant time ago now!

mistlethrush · 08/02/2009 22:59

(Daisy - I only knew D&D due to friend(ish) at university going the whole hog with costumes etc at the weekends...!!!)

daisy99divine · 08/02/2009 23:04

ooo costumes? I think that JM might be interested once she is up and about again

Mistle, I agree, Racing needs a new hoover!

UniS meant to say good luck on your house things!

I admit I never "got" the whole D&D thing - I spent ages thinking that the devotees actually dressed up as their characters and went to some kind of "set" to play the game.(wow, mistle - you knew people who actually DID this??) I'm still not 100% sure how it works (please don't anyone try to enlighten me, I met a girl at a college course once who was a D&D fanatic and she had a go - I switched off after a minute )

Weird really, cos I love fantasy fiction - but it was beyond me.

daisy99divine · 08/02/2009 23:14

Hmm, I meant to say, I wasn't thinking of an ermine when I said ocelot was white cat. It's a white cat that lives in the Artic but when I googled white cat I got a story about a cat that cathes the bus in Walsall. Quite interesting, but not what I meant

I think it's time for bed!

OP posts:
ThumbLoveWitch · 08/02/2009 23:32

just read back a few pages - zazen, so sorry you had such a rotten time and it is not at all surprising that it causes you some sadness when you hear of other people's good fortunes - you would be a saint for it not to.

Daisy - were you thinking of the snow leopard? Can't find any other sort of arctic cat, apart from this painting (which is rather lovely).

cmotdibbler · 08/02/2009 23:42

Thumb - I know people that do both sorts. And I have never, ever participated. I do, alas, know how it all works. My principle is that it requires no more of me than the occasional enquiry as to whether his character died, and enables me to go out for the day with friend and her DD.

DS will go to anyone, anytime.

Unfortunatly, my parents aren't capable of having DS for more than 5 minutes on their own. DH's parents are better, but after 5 other grandchildren who are much older, have had enough of babysitting. DH's DBs/SILs are remarkably silent on the subject of returning the babysitting we did for them

ThumbLoveWitch · 08/02/2009 23:43

lol and for you, CMOTD! I'm guessing that'll be your OH, then?

Racingsnake · 08/02/2009 23:45

Time for bed, but just before I go I feel the need to say the following things:

  1. Of course, Meryl Streep must play TrulyMad. We had been wondering how to get her into our movie.
  1. Thank you for your kind interest in the Vaccuum Saga. I think manufacturers might smell a rat if I complain about 'lack of suction' and return the tube which contains a kilo of pigeon seed, rather a lot of dog hair mixed with straw and two coat hangars. The image of the customer service team unpacking it has made me laugh a lot.
  1. Tea, inspired image you sent to JM. Entirely appropriate in so many situations.
  1. Daisy, perhaps the cat takes the bus to polar regions? Or maybe you are thinking of a snow leopard? We got WS into the water by intensive puddle jumping and splashing, so that she just saw it as a huge splash. Even so, it's not easy to keep her in the water - if she spies a passing float/beach ball/etc, she crawls out onto it like a spider in a water butt.
  1. Mistle - I only wish WS ate as well as Mistlechick.
  1. Thumb - so sorry for your loss. You must be having such a traumatic time. All sorts of feelings going on. (Obviously I have no idea what to say, but just don'r want to ay nothing. May have to send you a rabbit.
ThumbLoveWitch · 08/02/2009 23:49

pmsl at your vacuum mfrs smelling a rat when you send back the dodgy tube, Racingsnake!
(and thanks for the sympathy - it is a while ago (9m) and I still am not convinced I truly realise she has gone - too much happened in too short a space of time, I think I am in the wrong Trouserleg of time sometimes)

JacksmamasLittleBundleOfLOve · 09/02/2009 02:56

I second passing the bunny picture to TLW - 9 months ago or not, it seems appropriate. From now on, whoever is feeling can have the bunny pic, ok? (Thank you tea - it made me laugh!!!!)

BTW, you all need to get over this idea that I like dressing up in dodgy leather outfits!

Hugs to all of you lovelies, will see you Weds!!
xxx

amber32002 · 09/02/2009 06:38

JM, good luck for today. Still thinking of you.

Hmm, birth experiences. Having had a caesarian because ds was too big and in the wrong position, and then being unable to breastfeed (key word - 'unable' not 'chose to') and Only Having One Child has certainly put me out of favour with a lot of people and made for a lot of comments from some mums. Since I'd already had endometriosis for years, fertility was a bit of a problem anyway. .

But ds couldn't care less. He's fit, happy, healthy, has loads of mates, plays for four sports teams, is on target to get good qualifications...so I'm trying to work out what I actually supposedly did wrong.

Kettle's on if people want a drink...

teafortwo · 09/02/2009 09:53

Daisy, darling(...I have been wanting to type that for a while - I love alliteration!) I can see your profile page (not filled in - is this right?) but not your pics. I also put a profile page up last night - can you check? Is mine working?

This is for thumbwitch who we all love and Zazen whose birth story is horrible and we all love too...

Hey TW- I think it really is a good idea for pinkiewitch to stay away from home a bit, somehow. Do you have a dear friend who could do the job? If not feel free to send him to Paris with babyMT!!! Ha ha ha -

Zazen - I thought you put it perfectly on 'tother thread - I was busy turning my tongue in my mouth ten times (as the French say) and you posted something that said everything I wanted to but couldn't quite put together. Well done you star!

So V day... Well, We do and do not do Valentines day. It is a tricky one. Sometimes yes sometimes no.

The Valentines day I was pregnant with dd I happened to be traveling to Paris to see dh (as it was half term). I had a backpack on my back and my tummy had suddenly grown so I was a little unsure of what my body could and couldn't do. I crossed London on the underground at peak time. The whole carriage was filled with men in suits with big bunches of red roses and I seemed to be alternately bumping the roses with my tummy and backpack. When I got to DHs apartment he had bought me a simple, pretty green scarf. "Oh for valentines day!" I grinned. "No, I didn't know it was valentines day... it is just because I thought you would like it." That is more us.

This year DHs sister and niece will be staying with us so I told DH he has to take all four of us out for valentines dinner. I have bought the girls (dd and her cousin) the same funky dress but in different colours as a Valentines present for them... and am toying with the idea of getting a little treat for DH... but I don't know what?

It is a well known fact that

soup+crying child=no PhD work

This equation can be rebalanced with a decent slice of virtual cake. I'd recommend the chocolate sponge myself.

DH's back home ill with some gastric whatsit, so this isn't the best day I've had. But at least I've managed to wrestle some more statistics into submission.

mistlethrush · 09/02/2009 14:44

Amber I did stats option with O level maths - decided that it was the way of fiddling the results so that they said what you wanted them to.

Justa - we really will have to meet up for a bowl of veg soup sometime. (Although I forgot to bring mine with me into the office this morning and had to buy a sandwich instead

Its been sunny all morning and snow free, but I just seen some large white blobs falling past the window - probably more sleet than snow at the moment though.

mistlethrush · 09/02/2009 14:47

And Ds's contribution to the day so far - after 50 mins being encouraged to eat his breakfast, we decided that he must have had enough so took it away - cue much wailing and gnashing of teeth because he was 'hungry' . I think I might make a game and start using the kitchen timer and give him 20 mins (you should be able to eat sufficient breakfast in 20mins shouldn't you, provided you don't spend the time drawing pictures with your fingers on the table, stretching, fiddling with the chair, playing with the mats, eating individual oats etc etc?)

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 09/02/2009 14:51

Oh, is soup meant to be slimming?

Commiserations to anyone who is having to nurse the sick.

MT - I think the kitchen timer idea sounds very promising. Could you make it more fun by getting a novelty timer that looks like a chicken/tomato/other amusing objet?

mistlethrush · 09/02/2009 14:55

TMBD - good idea. Will do that when dh gets a job. Otherwise, as you say, needless expense, have a timer anyway, and could always use his clock and tell him that he has got until the big hand is on a certain number (gets telling the time starting to be sorted out at the same time [cheeky emoticon])
