Welcome to the Tea rooms newest incarnation. A cozy log cabin with a roaring log fire, comfy chintz sofas and a dedicated man about the house, our Butler, Mellors. Out of the windows you can see sparkling white snow gently drifted up under the green Christmas trees and bright blue skies. Children can all be packed off to play healthy outdoor stuff while we stay snug n warm in here with our mulled wine, tea, artisan hot chocolate and other beverages served in mugs, glasses or buckets.

The usual rules apply - no fisticuffs. And no messing with the aspidistra.

Oooh, speaking of mini-figs, Maud, did you see the new Guiding ones?

And yes, please, JM. Grin

mistlethrush · 02/04/2014 21:17

DS loves lego too. He got given 'a box' for Christmas which you take to the (new) lego shop and fill with blocks taken out of drawers on the wall... I suggested that we might do the 'logical' thing (with lego) and stick the blocks together so that it was easier to stack them in the box tidily. We got rather a large number in the box

He's got lego on the Wii too - just so that he can mix the computer and the lego..

mistlethrush · 02/04/2014 21:18

BTW - yes, I have made strawberry jam before - and it would store until Christmas. The problem with it is to get it to set - you can get pectine to add - and having some lemon in there is good too.

Scout19075 · 02/04/2014 21:30

Is a 4 oz jar too cheap looking? Or a trio of 4 oz jars?

mistlethrush · 02/04/2014 21:35

It depends how good a friend / relative they are! A trio of a variety of different things might be an idea... Eg apple chutney done in Oct - we have a lovely spicy one that we like making. Piccalilli is easy to make too.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 02/04/2014 21:46

We're not a Lego household, sadly, although The Girl was very pleased with the little set that I brought back from the Brownie Takeover at Butlins. I did see the Guiding minifigs on Facebook yesterday, although I didn't really understand what was supposed to be going on.

::old and befuddled emoticon::

Scout19075 · 02/04/2014 21:47

I was thinking of a trio of strawberry jams (choice between ordinary strawberry, strawberry w/apple, strawberry w/wine and strawberry w/chocolate) with scone mix (either homemade or bought, don't know which yet). For chutneys and mincemeat I tend to recycle salsa jars and found they're a good size.

Scout19075 · 02/04/2014 21:52

I didn't see the Guiding thing until a Scouter posted about it. But then I went and did a little digging.

Donki · 03/04/2014 07:06

Hey ho!
Another day in the Tea Room.

I see that Mellors has set up a healthy breakfast buffet - and included some very tempting carroty snacks. There is even fresh carrot juice in a glass marked "Donki"

mistlethrush · 03/04/2014 07:08

Is the sleep going any better Donki?

I made mulled wine plum jam one year - would be good for christmas presents (and tasted lovely).

Donki · 03/04/2014 08:10

I'm getting about 5-6 hours now. Using you suggestion, and my NZ friends suggestion of sour cherry juice.

So better by a good margin, thank you.

Donki · 03/04/2014 08:11

(Mellors' massages help no end too :) )

Donki · 03/04/2014 08:12

Mulled wine plum jam sounds good - and not entirely unlike the spiced pickled damsons I once made. They were very good with cheese.

Scout19075 · 03/04/2014 08:31

SB has forced MrScout to take his stuffed dragon to work with him. He also walked him to the door saying "Cheerio, Daddy, have a good day!" Trying really hard not to laugh....

Donki · 03/04/2014 08:46

Grin at the vision of MrScout taking a stuffed dragon to work.

Scout19075 · 03/04/2014 08:50

The irony is it's a computer company mascot thing MrScout got for SB on one of his work/geek trips/conferences last year. So if actually took it into the office (he won't) no one would think twice.

Donki, are there any omlettes on the breakfast buffet today? I'm really hungry this morning....

MT, tell me more about this mulled plum jam....

Donki · 03/04/2014 09:08

If you are lucky, Mellors will be delighted to cook an omelette to your taste. If you are unlucky the NMBs may be on omelette duty.

It might get messy Grin

mistlethrush · 03/04/2014 09:11

I will try to dig the recipe out. It was remarkably easy I think!

(Bracing for first sleep over in the house on Friday evening)

Donki · 03/04/2014 13:23

There is a big pot of borscht and some sour cream to go with it if anyone wants lunch

:)

Donki · 03/04/2014 13:23

(Don't plan on anyone getting much sleep MT )

Scout19075 · 03/04/2014 17:03

Does Mellors make dinner? I need help....

Donki · 03/04/2014 17:25

YOOHOO!

MELLORS!

Can you help Scout?

Do you want the NMBs as well?

UniS · 03/04/2014 17:37

Does scout WANT the nmbs? is she sure? I thought scout wanted help rather than chaos.

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 03/04/2014 17:37

Only if the NMBs are on their best behavior. I'm too tired to shout/argue/clean up mess.

Scout19075 · 03/04/2014 17:39

We've had a wonderful day but I'm exhausted. More when SB is in bed.
