Tearoom 35: Sun, sea and sand...

Treehouse expedition - definitely - will have to check with DH to find out when he is next rehearsal free of a weekend afternoon - he's been out playing every evening, most weekend afternoons for weeks from the feel of it - which means that MC and I can't leave the dog for that long a period (we're up to an hour twice a day now, without anything untoward happening, so making very good progress, but not going to push it as we don't want it all to go backwards). Thinking about it... might be possible on a Sunday morning even if DH is playing in the afternoon - he can look after the dog in the morning....

Skiing - glad it went well UniS - I'm afraid that's one of the things I've never really felt I wanted to do - if I wanted to hurtle around in a barely controlled way, I chose to ride a horse instead

We currently have a complicated jigsaw on the kitchen table - its not that many pieces (500) but its quite challenging so we're going at it as a family - DS is doing pretty well, which is encouraging to parents who both like (and are pretty good at) puzzles

We love puzzles! My MIL is addicted, and we got started on them two years ago when we were in Hawaii. JB is really very good at puzzles, as he is at the small fingery Lego.

We've given MIL a couple of photo puzzles for Christmases and birthdays, she loves them. We always pick a picture of JB at a special event, and get it made into a puzzle.

and kisses for Oxeye and Maud! Oxeye - fittings are only during the week which is a real annoyance. So we're heading down at half term and going to get a travel lodge the night before so its not too much travelling in one day - and we can do more than travel and have bike fitting. DS would, of course, be fine, as he would happily watch his DVDs for hours on end - but I think it would be an unrealistic amount of driving for me.

Horrible, cold, snowy and windy morning - although the sun has now come out. anyone?

We did a Islabike fitting with Boy at a bike show ( nearly 4 years ago! ) for his 2nd IB , this time round I tried him on someone elses and then bought a 2nd hand one, its IB number 4 for him this birthday . eek - now I KNOW i'm a bike snob.

I spent this morning creating a living willow structure for a friend. We had a couple of snow flurries while we worked, but nowt that settled. hopefully it will help desquelch part of her garden in time. As well as be a fun thing to play in and around.

Do you think an uncoordinated boy could manage a balance bike?

Scout - he didn't look any more uncoordinated than MC was at the same age... and he LOVED his balance bike. The best option, if you can, is to find a child that is good at balance biking to show him how to do it - following someone around the park on one afternoon made more progress than he'd made in about 3 months previously (but even then it was much better than a bike with stabilisers).

He can't scoot, as much as he tries. He can do about two foot-swoops and then just walks his scooter around. He's only just figured out how to "monkey walk" in the swimming pool (he couldn't do it last term and watching him at lessons last week it looked like he couldn't do it but swimming with me on Monday he was doing it). His friend does have a balance bike but friend is a good two inches shorter than him so I don't think trying his would help much.

He won't 'get' it immediately - its a different type of feeling. Effectively they just continue walking to start with - but sitting down. As they get better they take longer strides - then find that if they push of with their feet they can actually get a bit of speed up - which means they can then take their legs off a bit.... You don't want a 'big' one though - because they do need a low saddle to give them enough 'spare' leg to do the strides.

OMG, I nearly burst earlier, waiting for MrScout to come out. After hours his office is locked and you can only gain access with a badge. It was too much like hard work to get SB out of his car seat, get his coat on and bang on the door in hopes the security guard would take pity on me. It never seems to be the same security person two days in a row (I have to buzz to be allowed into the car park) so it's not like I have built up a "relationship" with the guards (not like when MrScout worked at his former company and couldn't drive for a year I got to know the security guys at his old office VERY well because, bless him, time keeping is not MrScout's strong point).

We went to Forest School this morning. Does anyone know if they make thermal socks for small people? SmallBoy is finally wearing his wellies but they're not very warm and (eek, he seems to be following my footsteps) two pairs of socks didn't seem enough and he was crying with cold feet.

insoles might help small boys cold feet. Farm suppliers often have small size boot socks.

Hows you all doing? I've had a lovely lazy day in the TR swinging in a hammock as teh sun shines... in RL it's been cold and a bit wet, I've washed the greenhouse ( got VERY cold hands) and been for a bike ride ( and tea n crumpets) with a friend.
