Tearoom 35: Sun, sea and sand...

This breathtakingly beautiful island has unspoilt powdery white sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters that wash over pristine coral reefs, and verdant green rainforest.

Scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and sailing trips are available and you can discover the island's charms on foot (with or without Mellors the guide) by mountain bike or private island buggy.

For those in need of pampering the spa offers a selection of luxurious treatments to soothe and heal both body and soul.

For dining, enjoy a freshly prepared meal at the tearoom, a picnic on the beach, or a delicious dinner in the oceanfront restaurant with its stunning sea views. There is Wine, Brew and good company, everybody is welcome.

Err, yes, Scout. I should have checked Amazon first. And you should certainly have a party!

I think I might be toilet training SB next week. I'm going to need some hand holding.

I bought him a SB toilet which he seems to love regularly putting it on the toilet, moving his step stool so he could climb on and sit. I've also listened to him as he's done all of this, talking about using the toilet and wearing "Big Boy Pants." I've asked him in the not-to-distant past if he wanted big boy pants and always got a resounding "NO!" but when I asked him today he said "Yes!" We were at Tesco getting veg so I took him to the boys section and he picked out a pack then proudly walked around the store with them in one hand and a magazine in the other, talking about his pants--. He's ready to at least try, isn't he?

Good luck Scout! We used a toilet seat for Small Bean rather than a potty and he did really well. Be prepared for lots of accidents on the first few days and it should get better after that.

Small Bean has had a lovely birthday! He went to bed an hour ago and we can still hear him chatting away to himself. He loved his bike and we went out for tea tonight where he was such good company. My baby has grown up...

SmallBoy seems very happy with his toilet seat. And proud that he can get up & down himself.

What time is SmallBean's party? Is he excited?

Yay for Small Bean's happy birthday.

It sounds as if SB is ready for toilet training. At the time, I misinterpreted what "ready" meant and I waited until The Girl would spontaneously take herself off to the loo, as her friend did. In retrospect, we could have done it much sooner. But the benefit of doing it quite late is that it doesn't take very long. Some of The Girl's friends were according to their smug mothers our of nappies the day they were two, but were not reliably dry for months after that.

Sounds hopeful Scout. MC had been using his potty in the evenings for quite a long time before we actually 'went' for pt properly... I was planning on taking a week off work in the summer after his 2nd birthday -but he beet me to it and we 'did' PT over aweekend when my mother was also around. I think it helped with MC that he was in cloth nappies. He was still pretty small though so we didn't get much warning for sometime.

Sunny Saturday here - Brew for anyone?

Good luck with potty training, Scout - we waited quite a while, too (JB was three, as well) and had it sorted pretty quickly. With a few accidents, but that was no big deal.

It looks like the sun wants to shine above, maybe through, the fog today. That would be good. It was actually warm enough to sit under our tiny coveted porch in the back (in my coat) and read for a bit and start planning more of the garden. And I finally planted my alliums, and put up the bird house. We're ready for spring!

The coveted porch should actually be the "covered" porch - but I did cover it before I had it!

I mean I coveted a covered porch.

I think I should quit now! :o

A covered porch does indeed sound covetable!

A Guiding event today has left me feeling flat and low.

bean, how was Small Bean's party today?

Report
beanandspud · 02/02/2013 22:31

Scout, what happened? That doesn't sound like you.

The party went well (I think). I was a bit taken aback by a number of parents that left their children and went - bearing in mind that I don't know the children and they don't know us at all. Small Bean had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed himself. I do feel a bit exhausted and certainly not planning to do it again for a while. I think some people are naturally good at dealing with large numbers of small children and I'm not one of them.

I have a RL Wine on the go, can I offer anyone a top up?

I don't think I could "drop and run" if I didn't know the mom. Glad Small Bean had a good time -- I was thinking about you & him this afternoon! The party SB is going to tomorrow is for families/anyone in the family who wants to attend so the whole Scout Troop is attending. SB is very excited. I really must wrap G's present tonight as I promised SB I would.

Guiding thing I'm sure it was all in my head but I very much felt like people made very strained very-- small talk with me because they felt they had to out of politeness. It was like because I no longer have a unit I wasn't worthy of being spoken to because most conversations lasted two/three sentences and they drifted off without even a goodbye/see you later. Very odd. Like I said it probably was all in my head but I felt very invisible.

A very wise friend :) told me this week that if it seemed a big deal in my head, it probably was a big deal. I don't have any words of wisdom beyond that, Scout - only to say that if the people at the guiding event are really that shallow, that you're not worth taking to unless you're guiding a group, then that's short-sighted, awful, and small of them. You ate so much more than that, and if they can't see that, it's their loss.

Grin at JM's "You ate so much more than that..." I know I was/am a Girl Scout and we sold a lot of cookies.... Gosh I miss Girl Scout cookies. Mmm, cookies.

SB's friend's birthday party was just what I needed today -- families getting together, everyone chatting, eating, playing, even though most of us didn't know many other people there.

Failing to read back before posting, slight faux pas I know, but thank you for the "dancing in the moonlight" and yes, I too qualify for the very old club! DH and I will have been together 21 years in 10 days time! Was not a child bride, but he was my teen age sweetheart :-)

Been off line , playing in snow in the mountains ( alps). Had a fab week with DH and boy. I never expected to have such a fun powder skiing day with 6 year old! but the boy turned out to be a real powder puppy. He skied with us for 7 hours yesterday! did some baby off piste stuff and fell over and laughed lots in deep deep powder.

Maybe my inner child is also 6.

Trainers- Yes please MT- I expect the geox ones will be in use shortly, as his new ( to him ) snow boots are a 1... eeeeek, my baby has big boys feet! Must check his school PE trainers at half term, also his tap shoes.

BOy goes back to school tomorrow with an appallingly spelt holiday diary, hope his teacher takes time to fathom it out! There turned out to be 3 year 2 boys staying in the same chalet.. and all 3 mums insisted on "homework" before tea time. hurrah. It was quite sweet to see them sat at intervals along the dining table " writing" ( and day dreaming) each afternoon. They also had a blast in kids club together.

UniS - DS has just gone into 3.5 (where's the facepalm smilie when you want it???)

I had to put the dog and the boy in the bath / shower on our return from our walk this afternoon. Dog smelt of eau de bog - and boy was just filthy (wearing shorts). Grin

We do need a facepalm smiley :). I'd be using it a lot.

Thank you to everyone who held my hand this week. Was a bad week, headspace-wise. For my next birthday, may I please have a normal brain?
Thank you.

Organising taxes this afternoon. DH is out watching the SuperBowl, and DS is at grandma's, having a SuperBowl party :o. I suspect the football will be on in the background only, but much fun will be had by all. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet, although I do wish I could spend it in a different way. While I love getting/ being organized, taxes is not what I want to be doing today.

Glad you're feeling better JM and welcome back Unis! That sounds like a great week of skiing, can't wait to take Small Bean.

Hope that you are feeling a bit better Scout - it rather reminds me of years ago when I took DH to a work's Christmas party. A number of people asked him which branch he worked out (assumed that he must work for the same company as a lot of couples did) and then when they found out he worked elsewhere they just blanked him. Not surprisingly he declined the next invitation.

MT, your description of MC and MH in the bath together made me smile Grin. Now that the weather seems a bit more settled let me know if you still fancy a treehouse expedition!
