Tearoom 35: Sun, sea and sand...

beanandspud · 27/01/2013 20:33

This breathtakingly beautiful island has unspoilt powdery white sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters that wash over pristine coral reefs, and verdant green rainforest.

Scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and sailing trips are available and you can discover the island's charms on foot (with or without Mellors the guide) by mountain bike or private island buggy.

For those in need of pampering the spa offers a selection of luxurious treatments to soothe and heal both body and soul.

For dining, enjoy a freshly prepared meal at the tearoom, a picnic on the beach, or a delicious dinner in the oceanfront restaurant with its stunning sea views. There is Wine, Brew and good company, everybody is welcome.

Donki · 22/12/2013 23:14

Yes. Since school are clearly not meeting his needd. (Although if I were the local authority I would argue that school are clearly not investing the required amount before a statutory assessment is made.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/12/2013 23:21

I wish you luck. I am sure donkis can be very fierce in protecting their young and rightly so.

beanandspud · 22/12/2013 23:25

Donki, that's tough on you all. I don't think I'd appreciated the whole story and I apologise if my 'get a good night sleep' comment sounded flippant as it honestly wasn't meant that way.

I do hope that you get the help that Young Donki needs from school/the LA. It does make me cross to hear stories such as yours.

Maude Have you ever heard a Donki growling? It is a fearsome sound ....
Bean A good night's sleep is exactly what the YD needs.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/12/2013 23:37

I haven't heard the sound of a Donki growling but I imagine it might strike fear into the heart of a dilatory school or LEA.

::Offers Donki an ear rub::

oxeye · 23/12/2013 00:17

Oxeye!

::clasps you to her ample bosom::

How lovely to see you! All the very best seasonal wishes to you and yours too, and trusting OxBloke will be with you for Christmas and not up the Limpopo.

Poor Donki and Young Donki. School is very tough for kids this time of year but especially for ones who struggle in other sorts of ways.

SmallBoy has been brewing something. It has come out as a corker of a cold he's barely stopped coughing since he started. And the sneezing and runny nose. And the wheezing in his sleep. Oh the sleep wheezing. It took about four days to come out properly and the days leading up were nightmarish as well he was whingy, unable to settle on any activity or program, hitting out (and he's not normally a hitter, unless he's unwell), saying he's hungry but then eating two bites and complaining he's full (and SB likes food). He woke up this morning and his cheeks are pink, his body is like a portable heater and he's just asked me "Warm me up, Mommy, I'm cold!" He told me had a tummy ache and his tummy is full (all of the snot he's swallowed in his sleep). He crawled into bed this morning and asked me "Is it a stay here day, Mommy?" Which is SB for "Please, don't make me go out, I want to stay home in my PJs and play and watch television."

We're not home but at PiL. Which is like home, but not, if that makes sense.

Yesterday was Nephew2's birthday and I didn't want SB to go around for cake but MrScout insisted he should go "for at least ten minutes" and they were there for 90. And while reports were he was good (I stayed home, having only a few hours of sleep the night before and brewing SB's cold myself) I had to deal with the nightmarish behavior upon everyone's return. I know PiL and SiL3 are going out for lunch today and the Scout Troop would normally go, too but I'm putting my foot down and insisting SB and one Scout Leader stay home.

Maud, I forgot to answer your Science Center (aka Museum to SB) question a few days ago. It's on Jesus Lane, across from the Quaker Meeting House and ADC Theater. It's a one-room operation at the moment but they change the activities regularly and have plans for expansion. MrScout knows some of the people responsible for getting it up and running (it opened in February or March of this year). We have a family yearly membership and often pop over for an hour or two when in YOUT for a full day. SB loves it there. The people that work there know us and greet us like long lost relatives every time we go.

I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of wrapping paper. I've done so much wrapping it's unreal (I wrap the American contingent's presents as well). Still have two stockings worth of presents left to wrap. I love wrapping but HELP!

mistlethrush · 23/12/2013 08:37

I have done NO wrapping. The house is STILL a complete tip.

The dog had me up several times on Sat night being sick - we think that she's reacting to the antibiotics - if she gets them she's sick, if she doesn't she isn't. So she's not having them at the moment even though she should be for her foot.

Lots of work today then going to go and blitz the house. Then won't have so much to blitz on Tuesday afternoon when I get back from our 1/2 day of work...

mistlethrush · 23/12/2013 08:39

Meant to say, hope smallscout's cold is gone quicker than it took coming.

Donki - also hoping that things get better for YD. It's really horrid when teachers don't 'get' your child - we've had that and it resulted in a year of horrendous behaviour from MC which spread out into homelife big time - it was the worry about school that was doing it. How long is it expected to take to get a statement?

Donki · 23/12/2013 12:26

I don't know if we will get a statement, but they have to let us know whether or not they intend to do a statutory assessment within 6 weeks of our initial letter. So we should hear, first week back at school. The Statutory assessment should be completed within 6 months from the initial letter. But local authorities are very good at stringing them out...

I suspect we will have to go to appeal to get a statutory assessment at all.

mistlethrush · 23/12/2013 12:28

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not far away in RL and if you want an actual chat about this or want some adult company without chatting about this, just let me know. I am down south for some of the time, but I'm sure we could sort something out.

Donki · 23/12/2013 12:29

(Mistle, you are not alone! House is a tip, and I will be following a long tradition of last minute present wrapping tonight. And tree decorating. And making GF mince pies)

UniS · 23/12/2013 12:38

morning all. Uni Family are enjoying a day of not doing very much very quickly. The weekend was hectic mchectic. And the weather outside is frightful, but in side its soooo delightful.

Happy wrapping to all those still wrapping. Our christmas tree keep blowing over ( outside) and the conservatry is flooding ( roof leaks).

Donki · 23/12/2013 12:46

Thank you Mistle

Festive greetings to all. I see Mellors has hung mistletoe up, and is loitering under it looking for Maude Xmas Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/12/2013 13:14

Ooh, lucky me!

::puckers up in a suitably demure way ::

Donki · 23/12/2013 15:06

Maude!!!!

?Catches Maude as she swoons to the ground overcome with emotion?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/12/2013 15:24

::comes round from her swoon::

Well, it would have been impolite to refuse a chaste kiss on the cheek, wouldn't it?

Donki · 23/12/2013 16:18

So that's what you call it! Grin

beanandspud · 23/12/2013 18:32

Maude, if that was chaste I'm not sure I want to see raunchy.... Xmas Grin

Oxeye - lovely to see you!

House finally cleanish Most of the wrapping is done and the lamb and ham are cooking. Finally it feels a teeny bit Christmassy.

I have mini Christmas 'bites' and Wine.

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/12/2013 19:38

Your definition of raunchy is obviously not the same as mine.

Meanwhile, thank you for the Christmas nibbles and Mellors is serving festive cocktails in the conservatory.

Donki · 23/12/2013 20:29

The tree is decorated, the floor vacuumed to get rid of stray tinsel bits, and, Glory Be! The YD is in bed without a meltdown... although we had a couple of close calls.

Donki · 23/12/2013 20:30

Mulled wine all round... although I might be persuaded to open the sloe gin, if anyone would prefer. It's quite good. Not too sweet.

UniS · 23/12/2013 20:54

Wine mines a mulled please.

Congratulations on getting through the day without lose of life or sanity.

Our spare room is ready, now all we need is for my parents to show up, but they have taken the scenic route ( again) and who knows when they will get here.... Last phone call was at 5pm and they were north of southhampton.

The Tea room conservatory is looking delightful, snug and dry ( unlike my own). I think I'll curl up here on a sofa and listen to the wind howl while watching flames dance in the wood burning stove.

Donki · 23/12/2013 23:42

?Downs large bucket of mulled wine?
Hic!

Busy present wrapping.
We have (as usual) got far too much stuff for the YD...
