The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

::Scoffs chocolate but says polite no thank you to amaretto::

Merry Christmas Scout and Cmot!

Scout19075 · 25/12/2011 22:22

Amaretto's a contribution from SiL3.

Christmas Pudding Cupcakes are now out as well.

I hope everyone's been thoroughly spoiled today.

JM -- yes, must reply to you!

beanandspud · 26/12/2011 08:33

Good morning and Merry Boxing Day!

Brew and croissants are on the table.

We had a lovely day yesterday - fairly relaxed with far too much to eat and drink. Small Bean was a joy - loved all of his presents and thoroughly enjoyed his day. Just wondering what we might do today now - everyone else is still asleep and DS and I are playing knights and castles!

Thanks, Bean Xmas Smile
Wonderful day yesterday and such a blessing to be here, alive and well, enjoying life with family and friends.

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 26/12/2011 14:06

Merry Boxing Day one and all! I have been Very Good and stayed off the 'puter all weekend - just been catching up.

UniS - no worries! Xmas Smile

(((Scout))) - hope TS gets well soon and you stay well!

JM - tut! And my ankle is not as good as it should be because I have not been as good as I should have been same as you - the bruising is beautifully kaleidoscopic in colour and the swelling is variable, depending on how much I keep it up (and whether or not it's bandaged - bandaging makes it worse but is necessary for mobility)

Hurrah for everyone who had a lovely day with family/offspring - Brew and/or Wine to those dealing with stressful family - and Thanks all round for being such a good crew to hang out with Xmas Smile

Jacksmania · 26/12/2011 20:07

Merry Boxing Day everyone!
Wore my brace all day yesterday and it feels much better. The knee, not the brace Xmas Grin.

Scout19075 · 26/12/2011 20:16

I am poorly. As are most of the family, to varying degrees, thanks to Toddler. I am maxed out on family, though. Thnak goodness I'm going to the shops tomorrow -- ALONE!

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 26/12/2011 20:26

::Adopts Miss Trunchbull persona:: Good girl, JM!

Oh dear, Scout! Hope your solitary shopping trip lifts your spirits.

Would a little mulled Wine help now?

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 26/12/2011 20:43

Wine Bottoms up!

Scout19075 · 26/12/2011 20:47

Cheers!

Oh! CMOT, MrScout got me two pairs of socks from that sight you linked me to a few weeks back. Result! Unfortunately they're too big, and even he realized it after he picked them up (at a shop near here) so he's said he'd go back in a few days to see if they have more stock and can exchange them. Warm & toasty feet here I come! Grin

beanandspud · 27/12/2011 00:02

Wine Cheers all!

We are heading north to the outlaws tomorrow so who knows when I will be back online...

I will miss my parents though, we have had such good fun playing board games tonight and have laughed so much.

Scout - I hope that you are all feeling better soon. Enjoy your shopping.

Amber - I raised a glass for you earlier Xmas Smile

TW and JM - please do the right thing! JM, I saw your thread earlier for people that hadn't had a good Christmas and I'm with you all the way.

cherrycat · 27/12/2011 17:00

I hate this between xmas and new year...I love the build up, excitement of xmas eve and the big day.....family get together on boxing day which was fun but carnage.....and now all I can think about is going back to loads of work on the 3rd of Jan. I hate new year...I don't know why but I do! Got panto on Thursday so that's something to look forward too....haven't even hit the sales yet either...prob be nothing left as spent day in pj's with hang over from yesterdays Boxing Day carnage at mine.....now grappling with the Dyson and pledge....ughhhh!

temporyName · 27/12/2011 18:56

And thank goodness that over. I do love my in laws, I must do, they parented my beloved DH for the first 18 years of his life, but BOY does MiL drive me up the wall when she visits our house. Approximate score to her = red wine on (off) white carpets x2, Wine glass smashed in kitchen while DH and I were cooking christmas dinner x1, kitchen counters wiped down with cloth that has just been used to clean something off the floor x2. Sulks ( major) x1, sulks minor x 2. Pile of sandwiches made with stork rather than butter ( "oh I didn't bother looking for butter") x1.

and breathe. they have returned home, DH , boy and I went for a bike ride this afternoon, then flopped on teh big bed for a family cuddle/ tickle, chill out, watched a deadly 60 and all is well with teh world again.

ummmm, Steve B in tight fit shorts in teh arctic :-) Bet he has a female producer on that show.

cherrycat · 27/12/2011 20:33

anyone get a terrible Xmas present?
One awful bag from Primani off ex SIL and a soap on a rope that would probably give you third degree burns.

CMOTdibbler · 27/12/2011 20:52

I didn't know you could even get soap on a rope still.

My mum gave me a second hand diy ship in a bottle kit. MIL gave me a Yardley lavender travel set and a silk scarf. Mum at least has the excuse of dementia.

My brother and his wife gave mum and dad a jar of marmalade - and that is all. They also spent 20 minutes with them, and 3 days with her parents who live 20 minutes from parents. Dad is understandably a bit upset

cherrycat · 27/12/2011 21:08

Neither did I - it looked suspiciously old looking.......the type you would get in the 80's!

Oh dear your brother and wife are a little mean with their time....how sad?

Jacksmania · 27/12/2011 21:09

Welcome to the Tea Room cherry and temporary :)

My father gave DS a less than thoughtful present - Lego, which DS loves, but the small ones for age 12+.

DS isn't even 4 yet. Hmm

cherrycat · 27/12/2011 21:17

Hi there

I haven't posted on the the tea room before- I wasn't sure what it was all about till now.

Jacksmania · 27/12/2011 21:29

A haven for anyone who's not into fisticuffs :)
We don't care how many children you have, as long as you don't dis anyone who, for whatever reason, only has one.
We drink a lot and enjoy good music. And chat about idle nonsense. And occasionally unburden ourselves about RL problems. We're good at hand-holding and support. And we're an international crowd! I'm the tea room's Canadian Content. That's also why I'm on MN at odd hours, it's GMT -8 here.

There are also occasional Bishops, bison and tiny little people called Naked Mohawk Babies on this thread - don't let them disturb you.

Jacksmania · 27/12/2011 21:31

CMOT, I saw the second hand ship-in-a-bottle kit thing on the "shit presents" thread Shock - what the actual... I read it and gasped out loud "DH, look what CMOT's-real-name got from her mum for Christmas!!" and he read it over my shoulder and said "what the... isn't that your friend whose one hand is buggered?? What was she thinking??" [so proud of DH emoticon].

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 27/12/2011 21:32

::Collapses on the fainting couch::

Somehow, my mother blew up her cooker this morning so we ended up hosting the family meal at 3 hours' notice. My dear mama is one of those impossible to please people who does not make for an easy guest. Gah. And now I am beyond pooped and have to be up at sparrowf@rt tomorrow to go for medical treatment. Ack.

::Decides that more Wine will help::

Cmot - Has your brother always been an arse like this, or is this a recent development?

Welcome to cherrycat and temporyname who (I suspect) is an oldtimer in disguise. Want to share the Wine?

Scout19075 · 27/12/2011 21:33

Hello to all of the old and new people.

Special to JM -- how's the ol' knee? Are you being a good girl?

Toddler on the mend but I still feel rough. Went out to get nappies and to have a wander around the craft store today. Going into Reading tomorrow, I think.

No really odd presents this year, I don't think. Did get two of the same baking tray (cupcake mold types) though, but that's okay. Toddler still hasn't finished opening presents can't seem to get him to open any more but he's absolutely over the moon with his Brio set and extra pieces. We need to get some points, though, so might be going to a toy shop later in the week that (apparently) has a huge Brio section. He hasn't twigged yet that he has a scooter -- I think I might set it up tonight and see what he makes of it in the morning.

Mince pie anyone?

cherrycat · 27/12/2011 21:36

I have just the one - 3 yr old DD, I'm really happy with that though I suspect DH would like another deep down. I like my life in simple terms, one is perfect for me.

I'm off the wine tonight, I have a mug of Hotel Chocolate Hot Chocolate in hand- one of my better xmas presents!
