The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

Who would like a Christmas chocolate and a mulled Wine?

Scout19075 · 21/12/2011 21:20

Since chocolate and wine hasn't enticed anyone how about some Christmas Pudding Cupcakes?

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 21/12/2011 21:27

Oh, have I missed the chocolate and wine? I would love any variety of cupcake!

purpleknittingmum · 21/12/2011 21:32

Hello all!

Well I have now finished work until 2 Jan! Just a few bits and bobs to get for the big day, got the cat's present today!

Hope all is well with everyone, sorry not read back!

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 21/12/2011 21:34

Thank you for kind thoughts - ankle is behaving relatively well, sore if I put too much pressure on it but has responded well to lots of elevation and rest. Having a decent bandage helps too! Took some ibuprofen before I went to bed and it's certainly no worse this morning. Other knee is looking a little less shredded - the minor abrasions are less red but it's a bit stiff (big bruise as well). Still going to take miniThumb to see Santa today though - will just go carefully. If they don't have easy access mobility scooters, I will do what the old people do and take a shopping trolley around with me!Xmas Grin

Amber - that's an impressive list, like the Christmas Carol effect, UniS!

Brew of the chocolate variety and a Christmas pudding cake would be very nice, thank you!

JM - how is your knee going?

UniS · 21/12/2011 22:23

christmas pudding cup cake sounds lovely, just the ticket with a Wine thank you. May I press a slice of festive flapjack upon you.

caution- flapjack contains oats, maple syrup, butter, cranberries, dates and sultanas, and a lot of sugar, not suitable for those of a sugar free disposition.

purpleknittingmum · 21/12/2011 22:25

mmmm I do like flapjack!! I don't put dates or sultanas in mine, either banana, chocolate on the top or cranberries!

beanandspud · 21/12/2011 22:42

Did someone mention cupcakes, flapjacks and Wine?

Hurray to Amber Thanks. What a year!

TW, JM and CMOT - I hope that you are all recovering.

I have now officially finished work until January - hurrah! It feels remarkably chilled out at home and (vaguely) organised. Small Bean is full of cold but I'm hoping that if I get enough vitamins down him over the next few days he will be fine for the weekend.

How is everyone?

Have I missed the cupcakes? Hope not.

The knee is ok, thanks to everyone for asking Thanks.

I had a shower without cling-film-wrapping it this morning which felt blissful. There is one set of Steri-Strips stuck to the two lower puncture holes and I wasn't brave enough to try to peel them off, I'll just let them fall off whenever they choose to. Still not much, if any swelling, and not much pain. It does really let me know, though, when I've been on it enough - hard to describe, it doesn't get weak, exactly, or painful, but regardless - I know when it's time to sit. And then I do. Sit, that is. Aren't you all proud of me? :o

I'm currently having a pedicure as a treat, and tomorrow lovely DH has booked me in for a foot massage... ahhhhhh!!!!!! Bliss.

How's everyone?

(Scout, did you get my PM?)

Jacksmania · 22/12/2011 16:42

How did this fall off my threads I'm on?

UniS · 22/12/2011 19:19

maybe coz you were busy cling film wrapping your knee and forgot to post for a day or three? Is it cling wrap in Canada then? or Saran wrap like the states?

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 22/12/2011 20:18

Yep, that's the most likely. I have my Threads I'm On set to 5 days now in case I lose stuff. You can change it in Customise if you want/need to Xmas Smile

Ankle was a bit achey last night after too much exertion on it yesterday morning - but seems to be ok-ish again now. Good, because it's going to get over-exerted again today. But not too much - and I will be mostly sitting down at the party this evening and getting DH to wait on me - about time he helped out instead of saying things like "what's wrong with you?" Xmas Hmm

Glad your knee is on the mend and not too bad, JM and yes, I know what you mean about the "time to sit" thing.

We have Gladwrap in Australia, btw. Makes me when I see it. Xmas Grin

Jacksmania · 22/12/2011 21:02

It's Saran wrap. :)

Jacksmania · 22/12/2011 21:03

But I just posted yesterday!! Totally confused. Confused

beanandspud · 22/12/2011 21:19

Would anyone like some baked brie with dippy things?

Oh, and Wine?

OP posts:
UniS · 22/12/2011 21:40

ohhhh- deep fried cheese ( or even baked cheese) yummmy. and such a nice slection of dippy things too. I'd not have thought to partner those together but by eck that twiglet surprise dip is divine.

amberlight · 23/12/2011 09:19

Everyone's alright here thanks Xmas Smile

Scout19075 · 23/12/2011 10:02

Got Toddler same-day appointment at the IL's surgery. I have a very poorly toddler with a barely-moving high temperature. Fortunately he's still drinking but that's about all he's doing.

UniS · 23/12/2011 10:12

fingers Xed for poorly toddle scout, hope he perks up by sunday.

I have given in, boy is now watching a DVD, he's been driving me bonkers yesterday and today with no specific whingeyness and moping. Not helped by me being a PMTish state of stress over impending inlaws.

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 23/12/2011 10:52

Argh. Supportive hugs to all those contending with sick or difficult offspring and approaching invasions of inlaws.

Scout19075 · 23/12/2011 11:09

His cold started this weekend and has gotten worse. I had hoped he'd be starting on the mending up-swing by now, not worsening. He only eats breakfast, and only a fraction of his normal amount at that, and drinks. He coughed so hard yesterday he made himself sick. Everytime he coughs he wimpers. He can't get a full sleep because he wakes up coughing or has a sore throat (he grabs his throat randomly). He's clingy and whiney, to the point that MrScout or I need to hold/carry him all the time, and that's not Toddler he's very independent. But it's the temperature/fever that's concerning, especially when only half way through his Calpol dosage it's returning. However, he perks up in the nightly bath he's been having especially since we let him play with his ducks and don't wash his hair (which he doesn't mind being done but it interrupts the playing/splashing).

We're off to the surgery so keep your fingers crossed.

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 23/12/2011 13:16

Hope the doctor can help. Have a Brew comforting hot chocolate.

Scout19075 · 23/12/2011 15:13

Well, they helped in that they confirmed we're doing the right things by Toddler and what to look for/when to get additional help. Unfortunately he doesn't think TS will be better for Christmas. Sad No Children's Litrguy for him tomorrow evening. But there will still be presents from the American family/friends to open so that should cheer him up a bit (he looks at the presents/tree but has been very good about not touching).

Who's for a festive mincepie and mulled wine?

Scout19075 · 23/12/2011 15:25

Had my first embarrsassing "Toddler says" moment today. At the surgery TS had a dirty nappy so I went and changed him while we waited. He came out of the toilet and announced (and continued to announce) to the waiting room "I stinky, I stinky." Blush Grin

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 23/12/2011 15:53

Yes please to Wine and Biscuit.

That boy has great communication skills!
