Welcome aboard.

The first rule of the tea room is - No fisticuffs.
The second rule is - Put the kettle on and lets have a Brew or open a bottle of Wine if its that time of day. Pull a sofa and relax. Parents of one, more (or less) children are welcome to hop on board and chat about anything and nothing. Introduce yourself if new and if you name change give us clue please.

Happy birthday, CMOT! Wine
Happy birthday, MT! Wine

Very strange day for Toddler here and I feel off balance.

Who's for Wine?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 17/10/2011 20:37

Happy birthday CMOT and Mistle!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 20:38

Incoming, Serpent!

laurenamium · 17/10/2011 20:45

Thankyou for all the warm welcomes!!

I am Lauren, I am single mum of DD who is 10 months old Smile

I used to be a bit of a regular MN when I was pregnant but had no time when she came along, and now she's a bit bigger I'm back!!! Grin

:: helps self to a jolly-stolly-bolly cocktail ::

Hi Laurenamium, I'm Bean and I have a DS who is 3.5!

That's great news about Mr CMOT going back to work. I hope all is ok now.

And JM - big unmumsnetty hugs - I do hope you begin to feel a little less overwhelmed.

Jacksmania · 17/10/2011 21:37

Oxeye, that's brilliant advice re the paperwork chunks, I shall definitely follow it. And yy to extra preschool days for JB. He loves it, anyway, so it's no hardship for him and I don't have to feel guilty

I really had to hit the "reset" button for today - it was a really typical Monday. What could go wrong, did go wrong. Gah.

Anyway, off to collect JB from preschool and find something fun to do for the rest of the afternoon.

I heart you all. Thank you for being so kind Thanks.

UniS · 17/10/2011 22:45

Happy Birthday to the birthday girls.

Busy day. but would you like to sample the GF ginger cake I made? I plan on adding cream cheese frosting ( like a carrot cake) but if that's not a good combo, maybe coating it in plain chocolate would be good. DH suggested sprinkling the choc with crushed gingernut biscuit ( he was eating one at the time) , but he forgot its a GF cake and we do not have GF gingerbuts.

For the face blind tea room denizens- I thought of you when I read this article on bbc

Boy survived his first trip to the cinema. The class went to see Winne the pooh. Boy tells me his didn't scream, cry or try and leave the room, even when it was bit scary because the animals thought a backson was a monster. He did move " a bit closer" to his teacher. Parents evening on wed so we will find out if "sir" had boy climb into his lap. "sir" had been warned about boys aversion to mild peril on screen and boy was deliberately sat next to "sir".

JM - agree with oxeye except for possibly one point (being an avid paperwork avoider myself) - make a list of some of what needs to be done, do one or two things; then continue making the list for a bit more, do another couple of things and so on (Depending on how long your list is likely to be!)

I say this because I sometimes found that even just the list was a bit overwhelming! So if there is any risk of the list being that, start small and work your way up.

Another option (depending on your mindset, didn't work well for me) is to have your list, do an hour on each activity and then move onto the next one. My best friend revised like this, she had a timetable that broke the day into 1 hour chunks and stuck to it - I was very impressed but completely incapable of doing the same! I need a while to get into something, so stopping after an hour didn't work too well for me.

I also vote for getting a Little Man in to fix your leaks before your DH goes away if you can. :)

UniS - if it's not too late, my vote goes for the dark chocolate on the ginger cake as well. Good combination.

CMOTD - fantastic news re. your DH going back to work - hurrah! Hope he stays on top of things. :)

Laurenamium - I forgot to say that I have a DS, miniThumb, who is 3.10 :) Our tearoom has quite a few boys in, so it's always nice to add to the female child contingent!
Oh! And it's been so long since we saw her in here I forgot - we have a France-dwelling denizen as well, Teafortwo - but she hasn't been here for aaaages (wonder why? [hconfused])

Another dull day here - but not raining, yay!

oxeye · 17/10/2011 23:42

ha ha Thumb, good point that a list can be too daunting if too long....
Yes, Tea, she has gone off the boil lately hasn't she
::ha ha ha ha ha ha falls over::

I know it's not polite to laugh at your own jokes, but nobody else was going to!

Scout, are you ok?

laurenamium · 18/10/2011 08:44

Morning!!

Any ideas on what to do with a poorly DD but perfectly healthy 14 month old and 4 year old? (latter two are my job so can't put them in front of a DVD unfortunately) on this cold day?

Original plans were singing club then playgroup but I don't fancy infecting EVERYONE in playgroup!!

mistlethrush · 18/10/2011 09:17

Depends what the weather's like and how ill she is - its been raining but now nice and sunny - so, if DD is, for instance, full of cold but not with a bad temperature, I would be all for wrapping up DD really well (but making sure over heating is not going to happen) and go out to the park to chase leaves and jump in puddles with DD in buggy with a rain screen over the top to keep the wind off her. That or if there's a soft play where you don't know everyone, go there so that you don't know the people that you're infecting Blush. If she's got a temperature you clearly can't go out - what about papier mache? Making bread?

ComeIntoTheSinisterGardenMaud · 18/10/2011 13:24

::ripping noise::

That was the sound of my sides splitting at Oxeye's hilarious joke.

beanandspud · 18/10/2011 13:39

:: Harrumphs at Oxeye's joke::

Speaking of which, has anyone heard from Tee? I'm guessing that she is in the midst of house-moving?

Unis - my vote is for plain chocolate coating. Please save a slice for me - sounds yummy! I am trying to avoid making cakes at the moment as I inevitably end up polishing off the lot. It's one of the downsides of working from home - anything leftover from the weekend turns into a tasty 11am treat with my cuppa every day.

MT - that is great news about MC and it must be such a relief.

Thzumbazombiewitch · 18/10/2011 13:53

Tee is around on the boards under her Hallowe'eny guise. :)

Oxeye - hardehar! [hgrin]

Had a lovely day today - playgroup extended by about 3 hours, because miniThumb's best friend asked if he could go back to her house, her mum (who is a friend of mine) said she didn't mind, so we did! And a couple of other mums and their offspring came too, so it was like a mini-party. We had so much fun that the host mum almost forgot to go and pick up her eldest DD from school! [hblush]

UniS · 18/10/2011 19:32

DECISIONS decisions.... The choc coating does sound like a yummy combo. However I tried teh cake with lashings of gooey cream cheese frosting today, and that was also yummy. the gooey frosting went well with a slightly dry crumbly cake. Maybe a dark choc gooey frosting would work.

You're making me hungry, UniS!

Jacksmania · 18/10/2011 20:06

Recipe please?

CMOTdibbler · 18/10/2011 20:16

That sounds gorgeous Unis

mistlethrush · 18/10/2011 20:33

That cake sounds just right. Although my slice appears to have tiny footprints in it Hmm

Out of interest, does anyone have any of the 2 for 1 kellogs vouchers? Or have you seen them about? I'm considering seeing if I can take mc on 31st Oct

beanandspud · 18/10/2011 21:06

Evening!

MT - not sure about Kelloggs but I have some 2 for 1 vouchers from WHSmith I think. Where are you planning to go and I'll check the dates?

mistlethrush · 18/10/2011 21:14

31st Oct

Mc has a 2 week half term - so the normal half term plus a week Hmm

CMOTdibbler · 18/10/2011 21:21

We have a week and a half of half term. Which actually works out quite well as I have to go to Germany in the full week (ds will be in holiday activity club), but still get 3 days with him so I don't feel so bad

Scout19075 · 18/10/2011 21:26

How come I can't find any Halloween type costumes for TS that aren't skeltons/vampires? Would it be wrong to just put him a dressing-up outfit instead?

to everyone.

Hi laurenamium. I'm Scout. ToddlerScout (aka TS) will be two next week -- ack! How is your DD? What did you decide to do today?

Rolls eyes at oxeye's "joke" -- are you and MrScout related? Hmm Grin

Enjoyed swimming today. TS is growing in both height (can stand flat foot at the deep end and not drink the water) and confidence. He's also starting to "engage" in the final/closing song as in, leading me in what to do instead of me doing it to him.

Tomorrow's another three-event day. I want to do it all but I'm tired....

This isn't so cute, in my view.
