Picture the scene...

From the edge of every terrace and every step hang brilliantly white stalactites, and you can hear the joyful splashing of the waters of the hot springs as they cascade down over slopes where their flow is impeded only by clumps of oleanders.

Nearby is an oasis of refreshments, in our Pamukkale residence, air conditioned and with white washed generously proportioned rooms, with Mellors at the ready, to offer Turkish Massage to anyone who wishes.

The NMBs are in their element, whereas the bishops seem to have found their speedoes again.

Priest's hole is at the back, in a quiet shaded area, stocked with What Car magazines, Turkish rugs and Turkish delight

Hi all. Sorry I have been absent for so long. I haven't had a chance to catch up properly but from scanning the thread I see I need to wish Amber a belated Happy Birthday and also huge congratulations on your news.

DS and I spent last week staying with a lovely old friend. She has three children and DS had a super time charging about with them. It was quite an eye opener to see the different types of challenges that she faces parenting a larger brood. I think we agreed that there are advantages and disadvantages to both our situations.

This week DS and I are having one last week in beautiful Devon before term starts. Unfortunately DP was unable to come but luckily a good friend and her DD have joined us. I love it here as does DS, when the sun shines there is no place i would rather be. Unfortunately the weather has not been good so far but have my fingers crossed that it will improve for the weekend.

I hope all everyone is having a lovely evening.

Hello again, Stickwithit.

I am watching the Kings of 70s Romance (or similar title) on BBC4 abd realise I know the lyrics to all the songs. Suddenly I feel very old. I think I'll drown my sorrows.

Anyone else want a Wine?

Thumbwitch · 27/08/2011 00:55

Serpent - I agree entirely that 2 guineapigs need a LOT of grazing room! DH moves the pen for me but he doesn't tend to notice that it needs moving again until I remind him a few times so the grass tends to be razed right down in patches.

Brew time here - it's damn chilly again, and it was so nice yesterday! But the crab apple blossoms have really started to come out (because of yesterday's sun, no doubt) so at least I have a pretty view out of the window. :)

I am better with 80s lyrics than 70s, although I know quite a lot of those as well. Sometimes old is not so bad though - I'd hate to have been a teen in an era with mostly truly shite music like the last 10 years for example

amberlight · 27/08/2011 08:14
Blush

Brew anyone?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 10:36

Yes please! Croissants, waffles and Mellors are laid out attractively on the sideboard.

AandO · 27/08/2011 11:08

Hello! Does anyone have any idea of the type of place I'd find labels I could stick on LittleO's school stuff. Labels that are machine washable? School starts on Wednesday and I haven't found any yet! I also still need to get slippers for LittleO to wear in the classroom.

Serpent - how are you getting on with your school prep? Are we the only ones in the tearoom with a dc starting school for the first time this sept?

AandO · 27/08/2011 11:09
Smile
Thumbwitch · 27/08/2011 11:53

A material shop? Do they still have any? I was very lucky that we had one in the town where I used to live in the UK - this is quite rare now - and I have no idea about Ireland at all.

beanandspud · 27/08/2011 16:11

AandO - try googling stickins - we are away and I don't have the details but I'm sure they were the ones I used.

Tee2072 · 27/08/2011 16:25

Afternoon all.

Best toy I have, apparently, ever bought LCT? A sharpener for his coloured pencils. Not because it makes the pencils sharp, just because it's fun to open and closed. 99p well spent!

Anyone for an afternoon Brew and Biscuit?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 27/08/2011 19:38

AandO. I have bought lots of bits of second-hand uniform, bought labels online - I think the site was called easy2name - which arrived quickly and am vaguely thinking that I need to get on with making a PE bag. Still need to buy white socks - what a daft idea - and have ordered PE shorts as they don't sell them so small in the school colour. I attempted to teach her to write her name in ghastly cursive script but soon gave up after tearing out handsful of hair and ageing by many months in as many minutes.

Tee, there is a picture on my profile of Wriggle with her first pencil sharpener, which she seemed to think called for extreme safety precautions.

Irritating wet annoying day with DH on very short fuse and Wriggle being willful and defiant. Gaaah!!!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 20:01

Oh I remember that pic, Serpent. Cuter than cute!

Anyone care for a Wine and some twiglet surprise?

Tee2072 · 27/08/2011 20:21

Serp, that is adorable!

Who has the toddler sleep dust?!?!?!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 21:16

Alas, my stocks ran out years ago!

UniS · 27/08/2011 21:46

Toddler sleep dust coming right up

Wine

UniS has made it safley back to the tea room after 100 miles on abike in 4 days ( plus a rest day in teh middle) I think we nearly broke boy... he had an evening of high temp and not wanting to eat and night terrors to follow. Thankfully he bounced back the following day and enjoyed a trip to the sea side and 10 pin bowling.

Devon is damp place to be at the moment. We got rained on quite a lot. Spent about half an hour sheltering from the rain in the middle of a tunnel ( former train track, now cycle path) the other day, it was dry, light. not windy and thus moderately warm. We played hop scotch, sang and pretended to be trains.

Yurts are cold unless VERY well insulated, our yurt was not insulated at all. the 2nd night we were there we got the stove going earlier and it was a marked improvement.

I live in Devon and I holiday in Devon, am I sad or what?

UniS · 27/08/2011 21:48

ohhh school starter special things...
Both DH and I walked boy to school on his first day, when I picked him up I gave him the pencil case he had been hankering after for months. he doesn;t need a pencil case at school, he just wanted it.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 21:48

No, not sad. An example of how to reduce one's carbon footprint. And, surely, if you live in Devon there's no actual need to go anywhere else for a holiday?

Would you like a restorative Wine?

UniS · 27/08/2011 22:22

Yep-
Devon, why go anywhere else?

LOL at carbon footprint reason. add in bikes as transport and its VERY believable.

stickwithit · 27/08/2011 23:07

I am in Devon too at the moment UniS. We are lucky to have the use of a holiday home here almost whenever we can dash down. It certainly is wet! We are really hoping tomorrow brings finer weather. I love it here but the rain has put a bit of a dampener on things.

AandO, DS also starts school this term. His first day will be on Wednesday. I have sorted the essentials but still have a few bits to get. I have such mixed feelings about him starting, it's only four days away and I am still trying not to think about it too much, how ridiculous!

UniS · 27/08/2011 23:28

which bit of our green and lush county are you staying in then stick?

stickwithit · 28/08/2011 08:23

We are in the South West. In a small village beside Yealm Creek which is looking lusher by the day! Is this anywhere near you (I realise you may prefer not to say where you are based). It's damp again but not raining as yet so we are going to the beach anyway.

Tee2072 · 28/08/2011 08:31

Morning. Brew?

After not sleeping until 820, LCT was up twice during the night. Everyone said he would start sleeping perfectly at 2. I'm still waiting.

Mr Tee has purchased the complete Bagpuss on DVD for £3. LCT is very much enjoying them as am I. We did not have Bagpuss in the US!

Any holiday sounds good to me. We didn't really have one this year.

Did I mention, Brew?

Jacksmania · 28/08/2011 14:48

Ow. I'm taking a four-day seminar in Yoga Therapeutics (how to specifically use/teach yoga to help with painful conditions).

So far it's not very bloody therapeutic!
The instructor isn't making us turn ourselves into pretzels, just making us get into basic poses but in absolutely perfect alignment, and then we get to hold the pose for a few millennia...

I hurt.

Oh, and did I mention this also involves driving to and from Vancouver every day? Not so bad yesterday and today but tomorrow and Tuesday aren't going to be pretty (weekday traffic is [bleurgh]).
I can't believe I paid for this...

Thumbwitch · 28/08/2011 14:55

I love Devon. I miss it and the opportunity to go there. Still, good memories!

2 year olds do not all sleep. This is a Fact.

Yoga hurts. I have heard, anyway - I am Banned from doing it - after buying a book called Yoga for Wimps (for the flexibly challenged) and putting 3 vertebrae out in my back on Pose 2! Blush

Apparently, it is Officially Spring here. Not so's you'd notice, that's for sure - still damn cold! although marginally warmer than last night. NO chance I'll be starting DS at swimming classes next week when the pool opens again though, unless it warms up by another 5-10 degrees over the week! Especially as he doesn't like cold water any more than I do and the swimming part is going to be hard enough without him whinging about the water being too cold.

AandO · 28/08/2011 15:02

Stick LittleO also starts on Wednesday! Serpent, what day does Wriggle start?

I found labels! My family runs a chain of shops, my sister manages a bunch of them. I told her I was looking for some iron on labels, she said we sell them Blush. Still haven't got slippers, it's amazingly hard to find slippers without characters on them, plus now we live in the middle of nowhere (google Lough Derg, County Clare!).

UniS - I have never been to Devon but strangely have a massive hankering to live there. I have always assumed that it's a bit like rural Ireland but with a funky edge that we lack here.
