Picture the scene...

From the edge of every terrace and every step hang brilliantly white stalactites, and you can hear the joyful splashing of the waters of the hot springs as they cascade down over slopes where their flow is impeded only by clumps of oleanders.

Nearby is an oasis of refreshments, in our Pamukkale residence, air conditioned and with white washed generously proportioned rooms, with Mellors at the ready, to offer Turkish Massage to anyone who wishes.

The NMBs are in their element, whereas the bishops seem to have found their speedoes again.

Priest's hole is at the back, in a quiet shaded area, stocked with What Car magazines, Turkish rugs and Turkish delight

AO - my guess would be that Ma thinks the flood gates would open and the house would go from nice neutral holiday home to family storage depot... what are the siblings like at hoarding stuff.

Have fun over teh horizon Amber but do come home in time for a hot choc Brew.

I had veg and bread in a horticultural show today. Managed to pick up 5 placings out of 7 classes I entered, mainly 3rds but one 1st. I'm very chuffed.

Luckily I always wear my knitted vest and sensible pantaloons!

Brew available.

UniS, dead impressed with your prizes. Mine wouldn't win a tenth place in a novelty competition at the moment, I fear.

Thumbwitch · 14/08/2011 11:21

A&O - is she planning on letting other people stay there, could that be the reason? If not, then yes, it seems a bit mean. :(

Amber!! like the knitted undies Grin

Go UniS! Excellently well done with the competitions - what were your entries?

We had homegrown spuds for dinner last night - two of the 5 plants I had planted had died completely back to sticks, so I thought I'd better check if there were any potatoes under them and there were! very nice too. :)

Scout - hope things aren't too bad.

mistlethrush · 14/08/2011 13:49

On dodgy connection from the middle of nowhere where I've played some Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and others this morning.....

Potatoes have done well this year - even the ones that escaped from last year were good.

Have planted some leaks and celeriac and brocoli, so hope the slugs don't eat them all before we get back.

Tee2072 · 14/08/2011 17:35

Hey all.

Had a lovely afternoon with LCT and MrTee at the Ulster Museum. It's all natural and local history and lots of interactive things for a small boy to get into.

Amber, nice knitted undies.

Unis well done in the comps.

Am well Envy of those of you who grow food. Wish I could.

Tomorrow a friend of mine is coming round to help me get all of LCT's baby stuff to the resale shop. I thought I'd be sad, instead I'm just glad I'll have more room!

Scout19075 · 14/08/2011 19:57

Toddler met some ferrets today. The pub where we had a big celebration lunch was hosting ferret races (a ferret rescue charity was raising funds/awareness). Was very random but the children seemed interested. The rest of the afternoon he spent the day running around with his cousins and looking at them like they were nuts.

I seem to have a pile of presents from my PiL which I will open after dinner, along with a present from MrScout since he won't be home on my actual birthday.

Donki · 14/08/2011 21:07

Hello!
Is my hay pile still here or has Amber eaten it all tidied it away?

I have brought some holiday presents for everyone. A nice model 727 in Alaska Airlines livery for Amber and a Haynes manual for the Space Shuttle to distract you from other things.

A lovely photograph of a whale breaching for the Tea Room wall - although it does look a little out of place in Turkey.

A huge pile of my Aunt's chocolate brownies for everyone (and a small GF free pile for those who can't eat the other sort).

A nice ULU for Mellors.

I did bring a big bag of "craisins" but the NMBs seem to have nicked them.

We had a wonderful time - the YD is shattered, and we are all very jetlagged. I think (after consideration) that it is harder to adjust when travelling East.

9hrs

Yawn...

The YD will not go to bed. His body thinks it is mid-day.....
And then I can't get him up in the morning.....

I am thinking of resorting to a sledge hammer!

And the garden after three weeks of total neglect.....
I may eventually find it again under the weeds. I hope. There should be some runner beans somewhere, and some carrots that the YD (lad after my own heart) planted a few weeks ago.

I am sorry that I have not read back over everyone's recent conversations....but HELLO to any new Tea Room Ladies.
And unmumsnet type ((hugs)) for those that need them (Amber, Scout, anyone else in need)

Off to bring the laundry in now. It is amazing how big the laundry pile gets whilst I am away....

Donki · 14/08/2011 21:08

Nearly forgot
Congratulations to UniS for her fine village show placings.

beanandspud · 14/08/2011 21:15

Hello all!

Sorry, I have been away with work for a few days and then busy at home.

Had a lovely weekend with Small Bean. Big cycle ride yesterday which he loved and then to a food & drink festival today which was good fun. One small boy is now fast asleep and snoring gently.

Amber- I don't know the detail but I hope you are ok. (although the image of you riding into the sunset wearing knitted undies has made me smile).

Unis - well done with the prizes!

MT - I have just put in kale, sprouts and broccoli so hoping for some winter veg this year - we had a disaster last year with all of the snow in November. The tomatoes are just beginning to ripen at long last!

UniS · 14/08/2011 21:45

You can''t go wrong with good stout under garments in this climate.

Thank you for all the congratulation on veg show placings. my 1st was for Carrots ( grown in raised bed, only way to do round here it seems), then 3rd for peas, runner beans, bread and potatoes. I was pretty pleased, it was my first year showing "summer " veg. Our village show is an Autumn one and I didn't have any thing right for it last year.

Oh oh, boy crying. DH has gone to see. BOy spent a busy afternoon on teh moor today, hunting under rocks and eating any bilberries he happened across and singing constantly. By teh sounds hes making its night terrors and hes not really awake.

Scout19075 · 14/08/2011 22:36

oooohhhh, Yay -- a Bread Maker! Grin

Mmm, UniS, veggies! I don't garden -- pots are more my thing. But Toddler and I are going to grow potatoes (in a bag) next spring/summer from the Potato Council.

amber, how are you feeling tonight?

Welcome home, Donki. Sounds like a fabulous holiday.

MrScout's off tomorrow morning. He bought me lots of presents on his last trip yummy goodies I received when he returned and birthday presents from on of my favorite kitchen-y stores and he's asked for my "shopping list." Even if we go over next month or in October he still wants to bring me back treats when he returns next week (for holiday). Smile I do love my MrScout. Grin

UniS · 14/08/2011 22:44

Boys class at school did those potato council bags, very nice the spuds were too if not very big, but that may have been the variety. I did Spuds in bags, just used old compost bags. The prize spuds were grown in the garden tho, We had eaten all the bag spuds already.
I am a bread maker, I admit it.Tho not one who uses a bread maker, I like big bloomer loafs not little square tins with a hole in middle. Have hardly had shop bread in years, always amazed how many MORE slices of shop bread boy needs to fill up, its all air and puff , no flavour really.

beanandspud · 14/08/2011 22:54

Scout - potatoes in bags are great - the Bags for Life that you get from supermarkets are good with a few holes in the bottom! When is your birthday?

Unis- I love making bread - a lot of courgette and mushroom bread at the moment.

UniS · 14/08/2011 23:05

interesting - courgette bread... I have a bit of a glut of courgettes currently, must google recipe.
The next village over has a horitcultural show next weekend. I'm intending to enter a few things in that one too. Some different classes. Just hope cucumber 2 catches up with cucumber 1, A matched pair will do better.

Scout19075 · 14/08/2011 23:18

I'm confused as to how a BREAD maker also makes jam and compote. Confused

Birthday is Tuesday. ACK! How did it come around so quickly?!

UniS · 14/08/2011 23:20

I guess it uses teh heating element to boil the gooey stuff you put in the pan?? is there a pan with out the hole in the middle?

Thumbwitch · 14/08/2011 23:29

My bread never seems to rise sufficiently for my liking, probably because it's spelt. But I do quite like the 3minute spelt bread recipe, with lots of golden linseed. It's very nice, but very dense and no good for sandwiches, just to eat as buttered slices or toast.

Good luck with the next show, UniS - come on you cucumber!

beanandspud · 14/08/2011 23:31

Unis - courgette bread

Tee2072 · 15/08/2011 08:18

Morning all.

I have always contemplated a bread maker but can never justify the cost. I don't think, however Unis, that they have holes in the middle any more. But I could be wrong! I used to bake bread on occasion but not for a very long time.

Brew?

MaryBS · 15/08/2011 08:50

Ours has a whole in the middle as its a paddle to stir the dough. I preferred using the packet mixes as they rose better than any home made bread. Now of course, I do without...

Eek, MRI scan thingy later today.
(Been very eek also about horrible miscommunication - where I got very upset about not understanding a social issue - and someone who Should Know Better told me that it really wasn't good enough and gave me a week to behave properly. Got really upset about it.)

CMOTdibbler · 15/08/2011 12:52

What time is the mri ? I'll be thinking of you.

Much excitement at the stables as a new foal is expected imminentlly. ds entranced by the thought.

Thumbwitch · 15/08/2011 12:58

Amber - I hope you told the Someone that they should have known better and not to be mean to ambers in the future. Silly cleric.

Hope the MRI goes well and isn't too clanky - have you had one before? they are a bit clanky, I believe. Have more Brew and a Biscuit and a bracing pat on the shoulder.

CMOTD - a foal! How lovely, they are the sweetest things.

My mum had a breadmaker but I think she only used it about twice and I fear I would be the same Blush so I haven't bothered.

Tee2072 · 15/08/2011 13:22

::holding Amber's hand:: I hope the results are good.

LCT's referral for ENT came through so that's happening in September. Although he's been remarkably healthy the last month or so. Just jinxed myself...

I had no idea breadmakers still made loafs with holes. Do they all do that? I I thought I'd had breadmaker bread without holes...
