To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

Hurrah for Mary's bargainous holiday!

Also Envy at cucumbers - I have never managed to grow decent ones. Probably due to lack of horsepoo or something - but they never grow long enough before they go woody. :( I tried growing butternut squash here the first summer - flippin stuff took over the veggy patch, had loads of flowers but the fruits kept dropping off before they ripened (ground is too well-draining and needs too much watering in the summer, I guess :()

UniS · 12/07/2011 10:09

I'll bring cucumber! , well make that salad more generally., also rolls, cheese and eggs.

As ist approaching 11am - slowly, but its getting there, any one for virtual elevenses?? No calories, no gluten and guilt free. Mine a mars bar crispie cake.

I'm thinking signing boy up for 6 weeks of swim lesons, it will take us through into teh hols. only problem is transport. We can get there by bus but not home again, unless I can get boy out, dry, dressed and 5 mins down teh road to a bus stop in 10 mins from end of class. OR we cycle.

UniS - that turn round time from swimming isn't doable unless you're prepared to strip him, towel him down roughly, get him in pants and trousers with shoes on and then run... and what happens if the bus is early?

OK, I will bring a bit more salad (am mainly eating that at lunch at the moment) some 'nice ham' for those of us that eat it and something like strawberries or similar for afterwards. Will be bringing wind break (required) and plenty of water.

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 12/07/2011 13:56

agree with MT - that timing is waay too tight for comfort - classes can over-run, buses aren't reliable and it would be just too much stress.

Will contribute smoked salmon and Boursin on rice-crackers-that-you-can't-get-in-the-UK-any-more-but-are-available-in-huge-numbers-over-here (still don't understand that, it's lunacy!)

amberlight · 12/07/2011 14:15

Hmm - FineLad having a great time out there except his back is now playing up spectacularly so he's bailing out after doing the main countries he wanted to visit (just the beach experience left after that point). Drat. Did wonder if bloomin' great big rugby player would cope with cheap hostel beds overnight...

Tee2072 · 12/07/2011 17:38

JM your thread made Classics!!!!!

Amber that's too bad. But at least he got to see what he wanted to.

Scout I hope you had a better night than us as LCT woke up about 4am crying. All I can think is that he had a nightmare. That was us then up for the day. DH got up at 7 and I went back to bed! Let's here for husbands on holidays!

Catitainahatita · 12/07/2011 20:22

Good thread JM. My fave was the "megapixies" for a camara. It sounded just like something my Dad would say.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/07/2011 20:26

I would like to have megapixies in my camera. They could help me with the downloading/uploading and all the other things I can barely comprehend!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/07/2011 20:28

::wonders whether the megapixies might befriend the NMBs::

Tee2072 · 12/07/2011 20:58

Shall we invite them 'round for a Brew or some Wine and see what happens? Grin

Donki · 12/07/2011 22:02

We're in Ireland -

Anything might happen!

(what is that hiding behind the large potted plant? Does it have a wee green pointed hat?)

UniS · 12/07/2011 22:50

yeah, Ok, it is tooo short a time frame. I'll make sure I have taxi money too. Its teh last bus to our village from town :-( Come the school hols we can cycle as the time pressure before teh class will be off, NOT fair on a 5 yr old to finish school, cycle 4 miles, swim half hour and only THEN have time for toast and tea before cycling 4 miles home.

Ohhhh, ohhh, I think I just saw a mega pixie, it was HUGE, and it had a green hat on, hiding behind that tree out there beyond teh gate. Wouldn;t like to see teh toadstool that lives under.

Serpent - you can find nori in Waitrose/Sainsburys. Its in a flat, square packet. Tis rather tasty cut into squares and added to brown rice, fish and a vinegary dressing too.

I'm in California atm - 3 days of work beating software about to find the faults Smile. Its not as warm as at home which is weird

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 13/07/2011 02:15

ahhhh - I wondered why you were up so late, CMOTD! Now it all becomes clear Grin
Hope you get some downtime in amongst the software-bashing!

CMOTdibbler · 13/07/2011 02:26

No more downtime than going back to the hotel and relaxing in my room. But theres quite a few people here for the testing, and so its a good laugh even though we are crammed into a rather small room for people and computers

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 13/07/2011 02:45

At least you should have air con over there, no? makes it a little easier!
I've always fancied a role as "bug-finder" in software - I used to manage to make mistakes that people have never seen before quite a lot! Usually through hitting incorrect keys repeatedly - created occasional mayhem [hblush]

amberlight · 13/07/2011 08:29

::wonders, in the light of the recent confusion over her Title, whether she should mention being in the Castle all day today or not::

:decides against it:: Grin

::puts Brew out::

UniS · 13/07/2011 10:32

::Unis takes a Brew gratefully, tugs her forelock and retreats bowing, backwards::
many thanks marm.

Is that a pub, amber? [hwink]

::hides the pint of Guinness and the packet of crisps::

Don't know what you mean Wink

Scout19075 · 13/07/2011 14:18

Toddler and I received a care package from home today. (Grand)momScout bought TS the same 4th of July/patriotic type polo that MrScout bought for him. Only the new one is one size bigger so he has one for now (MrScout's) and one to grow into (Grandmom's). Should I be freaked out by the fact that my mom and my husband have the same taste in shirts for TS? Grin

Scout19075 · 13/07/2011 14:22

I like castles. They are interesting places. I wonder if I'd feel the same if I lived in one?

mistlethrush · 13/07/2011 16:41

(Yes, big bowl of raspberries in fridge)

DontCallMeBaby · 13/07/2011 16:58

Eton mess cake is goooooood ... made with strawberries.

It's for the staff and governors' social after school's open evening later, and it has the advantage that DH is not massively keen on it, so I should be able to get it out of the house unscathed.

Unless I eat it.
