To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

Hm, Google tells me that the Hindu dietary code is rather complicated and variable, but lacto-vegetarian seems a good approximation (dairy, but no eggs). I could live with that - eggs are nice, but I would miss cheese far more. Yummy yummy cheese.

I try not to make assumptions about what people do and don't eat if they say they're vegetarian! DD has a friend whose family seems to be vegetarian, but she eats fish - this may be because she won't eat beans, and I think raising a vegetarian child who won't eat pulses could be pretty tricky. We have an adult friend who is vegetarian but considers all cheese, wine, and desserts to be vegetarian (she is of the 'meat-is-yucky' persuasion rather than proper ethical veggie). My former boss is 'proper vegetarian', which to me is lacto-ovo-vegetarian but strict on whether anything contains ingredients from a dead animal, plus no leather.

DD would have to seriously up her game as far as trying and liking new foods is concerned if she ever wanted to be vegetarian or anything. She is a blinkin' pain to feed as it is ... although come to think of it, she was a near vegetarian toddler, just because of what she would and wouln't eat.

and I've been quoted in the Guardian! Oh my! Debacle about CofE voting to remove all funding from disability adviser work centrally.

Tee -- Do you have any of that sleeping dust left?

Tee2072 · 11/07/2011 19:49

Scout I was about to ask you the same question!

Tee2072 · 11/07/2011 19:59

Found some! ::passes dust to scout::

Scout19075 · 11/07/2011 20:06

Cheers, Tee!

He's still thumping around up there....

AandO · 11/07/2011 20:07

AandO · 11/07/2011 20:15

Congrats Oxboy! Congrats on thread JM!

I am also a lacto-ovo veggie MT.

Erm, trying to catch up.....

Oh, I went to see Black Eyed Peas at the Oxegen festival over the weekend Shock.

I have also started rewatching Harry Potter films in preparation!!! [very excited emoticon]

online version of Guardian via my twitterings of today

I'm a complete carnivore, for what it's worth.

Scout19075 · 11/07/2011 20:35

I love steak too much to give up meat.

Jacksmania · 11/07/2011 20:42

Me too. :o

Tee2072 · 11/07/2011 20:42

Omnivore here. Tried to be a vegetarian. Missed bacon too much!

Hope he sleeps soon Scout.

UniS · 11/07/2011 21:00

me- I'm an omnivore.

Tonight's tea ( DH cooked) was pie from local baker, spuds from our garden and chard from our garden.

I have cucumbers growing !! hurrah, actul real cucmbers, and teh first one tasted fab. I'm not buying another cucmber for weeks hopefully. Tomatos are starting to ripen and teh first runner bean has formed. Also need to eat more courgette. Tomorrow I shall go to butchers and buy local meat to go with all that veg.
We survived Boys first sports day at school, he didn't win anything but he didn't cry either so alls well.

Jacksmania - your thread is brilliant - DH kept asking me why I was giggling.
Back to work now....

(I'm omnivorous, well apart from wheat and dairy ATM)

Donki · 11/07/2011 21:35

Oh, Amber - did you go to Fulmer when Robert Hall was running it?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/07/2011 21:36

Serpent - Are you willing to share your experience on this thread? It sounds very like Wriggle's situation.

Am hooting with laughter at Jack's thread!

beanandspud · 11/07/2011 21:57

Hola!
Just checking in and trying to catch up but find it very difficult on a phone.

We're having a lovely week in the sun. Small Bean is having a ball which, I guess, is the most important thing. He has been an absolute joy and is loving trying out his 'Spanish' on the waiters/waitresses etc.

I will be back at the weekend but in the meantime I have left sangria, olives and cheese on the sideboard.

oxeye · 12/07/2011 01:51

This time five years ago things were moving fast... Only one hour to go and I had oxboy in my arms for the first time Grin
now I'm wrapping pressies and icing cake while he snores upstairs!
Im a total carnivore. Had a couple over for supper today. She was veggie. To my shame it hadn't even occurred to me to ask!!

Amber wow. Jm dead funny!!

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 12/07/2011 02:12

I'm an omnivore as well - couldn't give up on meat although I don't eat bacon because it (and all pork products) seriously disagrees with me. Sometimes I miss it but mostly not.

Interestingly, I apparently "look like" a vegetarian. People who have known me for years still think I am one; people who have met me for the first time somehow assume I am one. I have no idea what this is about - I have asked and not got a really satisfactory answer! Confused

JM - well done! love your thread, it's had me snorting out loud a few times!

Amber - kudos for the Grauniad quote :)

Bean - good for your DS trying out Spanish! (mmmmm olives and cheese)

Scout19075 · 12/07/2011 07:50

Insomnia takes the Biscuit, especially when you have a wakeful toddler who wants rescuing from his bed.

Happy birthday, Oxboy!

Well done, amber. Smile

Does anyone have any matchsticks for my eyes and something to calm my sicky stomach? (You know that sick feeling when you don't sleep? I've got that, not some horrible bug.)

MaryBS · 12/07/2011 08:08

Much sympathy for insomniacs!

I'm an omnivore too!

Can I admit to STILL being excited over the holiday I booked last night? DH has been muttering about not being able to afford a second week's holiday in August. But now we're having a week in Devon, followed by a week in Cornwall. The week in Cornwall had £200 off as a special offer, so its costing only £310 . It looks gorgeous too, and is v. highly rated on Tripadvisor :)

amberlight · 12/07/2011 08:37

I think that's Fulmer School of Equitation rather than the RDA at Fulmer, Mill House Farm?

Mary, hurrah re holiday!

Morning all. Will articulate something when I can. Is there by any chance any Brew please?

mistlethrush · 12/07/2011 08:58

Week in Devon approaching fast...

UniS - do you want to do a shared picnic, if so, what do you want to bring?

Envy at cucumbers. Potatoes growing well - as have various fruits - but not really had enough time to get veg growing prolifically this year.
