To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

good cake isn;t it. I might just have another slice.

Had berries and custard for pudding tonight. yum, all home grown ( not teh custard, that was left over from making cake) . Today I harvested spuds and garlic- we will not starve in next few weeks....

Happy 4th July and Happy Birthday Unis!!

Just back, and happy to scoff cake...thank you. I will try the rhubarb/custard recipe as we still have some in the garden to use up.

Maud - I'm with you on the Mr Darcy vote.

::Wanders across fields dreamily wearing night-dress type outfit à la Keira Knightley::

beanandspud · 04/07/2011 22:19

Wouldn't a custard plant be fab?

We are destined to live on courgettes, peas and beans for the rest of the summer! Also found some 'bonus potatoes' that appeared from last year's plants and which were surprisingly good.

Jacksmania · 05/07/2011 00:29

For Maud
:)

oxeye · 05/07/2011 00:56

What bliss! I am away with the fairies for days and days, I return and what do I see? Mr Darcy, all over the place, and Cake. I love the tea room.

Colin Firth gets my darcy vote too..

Happy Birthday UniS

Ah I am so glad the meet up was wonderful, Rabbit and Serpent I do agree a playground sort of affair next time so I can join in if only for a coffee! I was wistful all day last Thursday....

I am loving the Kangaroo affair with Wriggle, and the Rabbit for Boy Grin

oxeye · 05/07/2011 01:06

can't read everything back but Catita I am so very glad you are going on sabbatical I am sure you will not go back...

thumbwitch · 05/07/2011 01:06

There is a custard apple over here, Bean. Grin

Jacksmania · 05/07/2011 01:27

Mmmmm... may I have one? Yum!!!

Tee2072 · 05/07/2011 06:47

Morning all.

Much better night last night with LCT sleeping until 6. So hopefully he's finally on the mend.

I am a bit jealous of all of the fresh fruit and veg y'all are growing. And then I remember I have a black thumb and so even if I had a garden, I wouldn't be able to grow anything!

Pouring down with rain here so I guess it's good that our only plan is errand running although I was hoping LCT could have a good run in the park. Oh well, maybe tomorrow!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/07/2011 12:33

Thank you, Jack, but you haven't persuaded me to change my allegiance. Of course, if one is looking for the utterly swoonworthy cravat-wearing gentleman, one must not forget Mr Rochester or Mr Thornton.

I think I need Tee's swooning couch and a large quantity of cake.

::collapses::

UniS · 05/07/2011 15:20

A good day- lots of cake.

Catitainahatita · 05/07/2011 15:57

Tee I sympathise: I have never been able to grow anything in my life. We do have a garden, but it is mainly all trees, some of which are fruit, some not. I take no part in their care, seeing as if I did, the tree wouldn't make it past a week.

thumbwitch · 05/07/2011 15:59

Cake is always good. miniThumb and I went to a friend's today to play - I took my poorly risen muffins brownies with me, friend and friend's DS were both very appreciative! Grin
Friend also gave us a free climbing frame jobby with small slide - miniThumb doesn't have one at all so it was a nice gift. She was given it by another friend but already has one.

We bemoaned the wastefulness and thoughtlessness of many people here today - twice a year, the Council come round and will take away any old rubbish that you leave outside your house. You're given a couple of weeks' notice, and anyone can take anything they fancy from the piles before the Council get to it. If it's taken by the Council, it gets crushed and goes into landfill. My friend has picked up soooo many half decent toys from these piles, it's not funny - rather than take them to a charity shop, where they could be sold for a few dollars and earn the charity shop some money, they'd sooner leave the stuff for landfill. Angry. My friend has picked up a wooden Barbie franchise kitchenette thingy, complete with wooden utensils and pink gingham curtains - it costs a fortune new and someone just left it out for landfill! except they probably expected someone to snaffle it first - as my friend did - but if no one had, it could have become landfill. And there is a charity shop only 100' down the road from this person's property. :(

:: heads quietly for priest hole with duvet and copy of What Chemo and a nice cup of tea to celebrate the 7th poisoning having been done. Only one more to go. ::

::waves at everyone in a 'hello, I am reading, honest' sort of way.

thumbwitch · 05/07/2011 16:55

Only one more? that's a huge relief then - it will be nice not to be poisoned regularly any more! Let's hope the poison has done its job properly - "thus much and no more." (can't remember where I misappropriated that from or even if I've got the first word right! Blush)

Have a Haines manual for the (T)rusty Jag and another for the Landy. And why not - here's Horse & Hound for you too. :)

amberlight · 05/07/2011 17:46

ooo, horse & hound as well? Splendid! Thanks! Feel ok, just told to rest, so I am.

mistlethrush · 05/07/2011 18:10

You are actually resting are you Amber? THat will be a first! Very glad only one to go. Did you know there are websites showing all the windmills across the UK? Saw it and thought of you for some reason.

UniS - sorry I missed your birthday, but belated happy returns.

Am very [green] at veg - it just didn't really happen here this year. Which is annoying. Although the strawberries have done fine.

amberlight · 05/07/2011 18:28

Windmills? Oooooo!

NurseSunshine · 05/07/2011 18:43

Hello Smile

This is nice! I brought some Wine

amberlight · 05/07/2011 19:14

Have you indeed? ::Amber puts down her Great Windmills I have Studied book and takes a sudden interest in the proceedings::

Welcome! Have a sit down on the distressed chintz sofa and let Mellors our $resident handyperson tend to your every need for a while.

::wonders if wine is a good idea at the moment and decides not to care Grin ::

NurseSunshine · 05/07/2011 19:23

Does Mellors do back rubs?
Wine is always a good idea. I'm breastfeeding so mine is a virtual wine :(

mistlethrush · 05/07/2011 19:30

Tops up Amber's Wine

It is a great thing about the tearoom beverages - and indeed, food, everyone can partake and not worry too much!

Hello Nursesunshine - have a twiglet - I think we managed to get all the string and elastic bands off them after the nmbs had borrowed them for ladders, but you might just need to go a bit carefully.

I arranged to meeting MC's teacher for next year - on the basis I want a better transition into Year 2 than we have had for reception or year one. His current 2 class teachers attended as well. Apparently its the fault of the summer holidays. And the fact that he tells me he's bored (and with the things they have to do, frankly, I'm not surprised) doesn't mean that he's bored - its just an easy word for them to use as an excuse. And he needs to discipline himself to listen to the teacher at carpet time rather than drifting off into a daydream.

And yet, if you say something that interests him, he listens and takes it all in.... I don't know why its so difficult to catch his attention and, once having got it, simply to keep it by being interesting.

amberlight · 05/07/2011 19:31

Oh yes, Mellors is very good at all sorts of massage Shock

Virtual Wine and bolly is a speciality here too.

I'm not absolutely sure what distressed chintz is either. I've tried cheering it up, but to little effect. Some say it's a rather faded flowery pattern but who knows...

Tell us about you? What brings you to this fine Irish Pub Tea Room? I'm Amber and strictly speaking have no children at all since mine's now 18. By day I run a small company. By night and in my spare time I'm a national autism adviser. By temperament, nine parts mad Grin
