To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

Welcome NurseSunshine

I see you have found the wine and twiglets...

There is a sack of carrot in the corner over there if you want one - but I would rather you didn't eat my hay pile!

It's where I sleep.

amberlight · 05/07/2011 19:40

::hastily puts down the mouthful of hay and the spare carrot and tries to look like she hasn't just stuffed some up her jumper::

Tee2072 · 05/07/2011 20:03

Anyone who brings wine is more than welcome! Hi NurseSunshine!

Jacksmania · 05/07/2011 20:06

Hi Sunshine! You found us! Be advised that wine in the Tea Room is not intoxicating to new mums :o
Also, don't let references to anything puzzling like NMBs, twiglets, Donkis and hay put you off. Stick around, it may or may not become clear but it's always fun in here.
How are you? Are you getting any sleep? Coping? (NS had a baby girl a week ago.)

Amber, put down that hay. Behave.

Hi Donki! Haven't seen you for a while.

CMOTdibbler · 05/07/2011 20:07

ds made a pony party snack of carrot dipped in garlic lick earlier. dpony approved greatly, so I have made some for you Donki. Along with some of the hay my dad made me bring home that is grown by Hare Krishnas, tended lovingly with nothing artificial

MC, I really sympathise. DS is v inclined to finding his own amusement too.

Hurrah for the penultimate chemo session !

Jacksmania · 05/07/2011 20:09

I don't know if I can top a carrot dipped in garlic lick but DS dipped his strawberries in the peanut butter on his toast this morning and thought that was the finest thing :o

CMOTdibbler · 05/07/2011 20:11

ewww. But I'm not a peanut and sweet thing fan

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/07/2011 20:12

::Hands NurseSunshine an extra-comfy cushion to sit on::

Hello and welcome. As you have brought wine and asked the ever-willing Mellors for a back rub you have obviously been well-briefed by Jacksmania and will be just fine here!

Cheers!

Congratulations Sunshine! My SIL had a baby girl this past Friday, so they are practically twins!

I have one son, LowerCaseTee or LCT. He's 2. He's just gotten better after being ill for a week.

::Tee is dead on her feet::

Wine?

Donki · 05/07/2011 20:14

Mmmmm Carrot and Garlic lick. And more Hay. Hurrah!Thankyou CMOT

How are things in Canada? We depart for Alaska scarily soon....

Anyone for a nice cup of tea - I've just brewed some for my bucket
(since the Tea Room is the only place I get to drink it now..... Grumble, stamp)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/07/2011 20:16

And I had meant to say [dons hard hat] that what MC's teachers have said doesn't sound madly unreasonable to me. Yes, it is important to engage him but they have other children to engage too and any diversion/ploy/tactic (sorry, can't think of more appropriate word) aimed at MC might switch off the other children in the class. It's a balancing act and I don't envy any teacher the task of simultaneously meeting the needs of a class of children.

::Doffs cap to Serpent and all other teachers present::

Donki · 05/07/2011 20:19

Tea - I'm glad LCT is on the mend. It's awful when you have to function whilst sleep deprived....

Donki · 05/07/2011 20:19

I only pressed post once, honest!

Tee2072 · 05/07/2011 20:21

He hasn't actually been sleeping that badly, it's the constant hanging on me that was bringing me down! Also, at 28 pounds, he is not a light weight to have on my lap for any length of time!

CMOTdibbler · 05/07/2011 20:22

How is the gf/df thing going Donki ?

amberlight · 05/07/2011 20:32

I wonder if a quiet toy would actually help him concentrate in class groupwork? If I have something to play with, I listen better.

UniS · 05/07/2011 21:03

I'm considering amputating boys thumbs to get him to concentrate, rather than drift off into Lala land sucking his thumb like he currently does.

Something IS going in however, as he spent breakfast wondering aloud about how it "would take SOOOOO long to count all the numbers that there could be that a person would die and have to be replaced by a another person, and another person.... because they never would get to the biggest number would they mummy.... " Infinity IS a big concept for a little boy.....

Not sure that particular something is coming from school tho, seems abit beyond regcognising numbers to 20 and knowing some number bonds to 10. Sounds more like daddy the mathematician has been explaining the world.

So- cake, do we need more? I can thoroughly recommend M&S cafe sticky toffee tart... basicly a tart case FULL of caramel. Yummy.

CMOT - I have been very good and not lapsed once. Unfortunately it seems to be working, the IBS has not been nearly so bad.

I miss tea. And butter. And cheese.
And gf pasta smells disgusting when cooking (but tastes passable when smothered in sauce)

CMOTdibbler · 05/07/2011 22:28

Thats great that it is helping. Maybe once you have really given your intestines a chance to recover you'll be able to deal with low lactose stuff, or by taking some lactase

Scout19075 · 05/07/2011 22:45

I have taken my last pills. I am done. Officially done. I have an appointment on Friday for tests then don't go again until December when I have my final tests for them to tell me if the stuff worked.

I'll be back to say hello properly after the pain pills kick in and I've had some sleep.

beanandspud · 05/07/2011 23:05

. Congratulations and welcome to an extremely friendly corner of MN.

Hope you are ok (and resting) Amber. What a relief when the next/last chemistry experiment is over.

Scout - enjoy your chilled Wine to celebrate.

Pleased to hear that LCT is recovering and hopefully giving his mum chance to recover too.

Unis - I smiled at boy and his numbers. Small Bean is the same and I have no idea where it comes from. Apparently he wants to count to 1000 but is going to wait until we go to Scotland as it will take a long time (I just can't wait for that trip next month Hmm).

Counting down the days until holiday and a week in the sun. Small Bean is getting increasingly cheeky at nursery which is usually a sign that he needs a break. And to be honest, so do I!!

Jacksmania · 06/07/2011 00:01

Congratulations Scout!!!!!
I hope you're well and truly on your way to being plastered on your first glass of wine :o

Donki, I missed it, when are you going to Alaska? Are you flying straight into Juneau or are you flying into Vancouver and taking a cruise from here? (I live very close to Vancouver, 45 mins east.)

Oh and good grief, how could I forget - Amber - so pleased that the chemistry experiment is nearly over.

YY to more cake. How does one make sticky toffee tart? Recipe?

thumbwitch · 06/07/2011 00:35

Scout - hurrah! Presumably the blood tests will check that your pills have worked? Fingers crossed that you are all sorted now :)

NurseSunshine - welcome! Are you actually a nurse? hats off to you if you are, it's a job I could never do easily.

MT - I used to daydream something rotten in class as well. But stuff still went in. However - and this is just an idea - perhaps MC needs to be doing something with his hands to keep his ears "switched on"? Just asking; I found doodling in the margins helped. Although having said that, my old boss discovered that her middle son's ears switched off while he was using his hands - not very helpful!

Donki - which GF pasta are you using?! can you still get Orgran's rice and millet pasta twists? I think the supermarkets stopped stocking that one in favour of the corn-based pastas, but I think you can still get it in H&B - that's our favourite. The Orgran rice and vegetable one isn't bad either. Also, there is a decent rice penne that I bought last time I was in the UK - the Dove's Farm one - that is stocked in Tesco. I must say I hadn't noticed that they smelt funny when cooking though. (I don't "do" corn-based pasta either - just my oddity).

UniS - I like Boy's understanding of infinity - very good.

A&O - enjoy Dublin!
