To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

Um, at the risk of offending Maud forever, I actually prefer the P&P version with Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul. Blush Am I about to be drummed out of the Tea Room?
Of course Colin Firth is incomparable. But the rest of the cast of that version didn't do much for me.

Tee2072 · 04/07/2011 06:30

JM I'll come sit with you, although I a.) hate P&P in all forms and b) Colin Firth does nothing for me.

thumbwitch · 04/07/2011 06:43

JM, I rather love you! I have always preferred that one; I thought David Rintoul was the quintessential Darcy; and Jane (Sabina Franklyn) was truly as lovely as she should have been! But, y'know - I borrowed an ancient BBC video of that series a few years back and was quite stunned at how slow the pacing was, compared to modern tv. And how wooden Eliza Garvie seemed - quite different from my memories! I still enjoyed it though - when did you last see that version? Apparently it is available on DVD though - I've just been reading a review of it.

amberlight · 04/07/2011 06:53

Colin Firth doesn't do a lot for me either Biscuit

Brew?

thumbwitch · 04/07/2011 07:07

Cheers amber - it will keep me going for a couple of hours until Wine o'clock. Grin

Happy Independence Day!

amberlight · 04/07/2011 07:54

Ah yes, I see Mellors is hanging up the flags and bunting to celebrate it, Scout. Smile

Tee2072 · 04/07/2011 08:06

Happy 4th of July!

I see the NMBs are getting a parade together. I would not have thought to hang bunting there! Shock And on stilts! ::faints::

Jacksmania · 04/07/2011 14:51

Happy Fourth of July to all my American friends :)

I saw the BBC version of P&P years ago when I was in chiro college. Thought about it out of the blue recently and ordered the DVD. It's in 5 parts (the TV episodes, I gather). I loved it as much as the first time I saw it. PMSL over Mr. Collins :o

I've invited NurseSunshine from another thread to come join us. Hopefully she'll pop in.

UniS · 04/07/2011 18:18

Found you.

Best wishes for independence day to teh Yanks among us. Would you like some birthday cake?

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 04/07/2011 18:51

Oooohhhh, cake of the birthday variety. Nom nom nom.

When I was working (here) I'd always make a birthday cake and treats to take to/share in the office. I did this at my last job and sent an email around saying something to the effect of "it's a birthday party for my country -- come and celebrate" and a few weeks later someone told me they thought I was Canadian because I was "too nice to be American." Shock Hmm Angry Really? The only Canadians I know who celebrate the 4th of July is my school friend who married a Canadian and now lives there (she, like me, has dual citizenship as do the kids so they do both national celebrations).

Went to a new (to us) activity group this afternoon. I had one soggy boy as a result complete success! Toddler looked smart in his patriotic polo until he soaked himself in the water tub but he had so much fun (and I don't ever worry/stress if he finds the water and gets wet unlike other mothers I've encountered at these groups).

UniS · 04/07/2011 18:56

Ohhh, rhubarb and custard cake... Delicious!

(Recipe please? This sounds like something I should make for my rhubarb-loving family!)

Scout19075 · 04/07/2011 20:06

Ooohhhh, is it today UniS? Many happy returns of the day! Grin Tis a good day to be born, today.

thumbwitch · 04/07/2011 20:09

Happy Birthday UniS! You're the third person I know who has their birthday today. Rhubarb and custard cake sounds fantastic - I'll second the request for the recipe, please!

Catitainahatita · 04/07/2011 20:18

Happy Birthday UniS!

thumbwitch · 04/07/2011 20:29

Thanks UniS! Have added it to my Recipes folder now, will try it when I see some rhubarb in the supermarket - it's not that common over here but does happen sometimes. Flippin expensive though :(

Scout19075 · 04/07/2011 21:00

Have just put a bottle of white in the fridge to chill -- just one more day and then I'm going to have my first glass of Wine in years. [sad soul emoticon]

Anyone fancy doing my camp/s for me? These forms/processes are killing me.

Still need to plan/prep tomorrow's Guides meeting. ARGH!

amberlight · 04/07/2011 21:05

Happy Birthday UniS!!!

Donki · 04/07/2011 21:08

Happy Birthday UniS!

Have a carrot cake - and here is some carrot wine to go with it.
Amazing stuff in the tea room - it always tastes like your favourite variety/vintage.....

Donki · 04/07/2011 21:10

And a very belated yay! for Catita's news

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/07/2011 22:06

::socffs cake::

I have no recollection of that David Rintoul version of P&P at all, and I'm usually a sucker for any telly adaptation. I really don't mind if others don't share my admiration for Colin Firth as Mr Darcy.
