Tea Room The 24th - San Francisco Painted Lady!

Welcome to the 24th incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not that you only have to have one! Just so long as you enjoy chat, tea, coffee, cake!!

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or Brew.

Our ongoing voyage take us to one of San Francisco's Painted Ladies!

We've brought the Aga over, it's in the back in the cosy kitchen overlooking the back garden. The chintz sofa is in the front room, under the bow window! All of the pillows and duvets have come along as well!

What's that? The Priest Hole? It's just over there --> behind the bookcase!

Mellors is upstairs, preparing the bedrooms for naps and such. Wink

The aspidistras are thriving as they overlook Nob Hill! The horses have found themselves stabled in the Garden, which is much larger than these places usually are in this city!

So come in and have a seat!

::tea hurries off to Powell Street to catch the Cable Car to Ghirardelli Square::

I'm feeling fed up because I can't get this cold to shift but not too bad, really. Thanks for asking. You have a very sociable family, don't you? Hope the trip goes well.

We might do our word search this week, too. I forgot to take it with me this week.

Yes, we do. Holidays and birthdays are big things with the inlaws. And all three of my SsiL have birthdays within 11 days of each other, then toss in Mothering Sunday, Easter and neice3's birthday (which is usually near Easter) we're here a lot in March/April (though we don't make a point of coming for neices/nephews birthdays unless it's an "important" birthday and/or we're invited. We're not usually.). I made a point of inviting them for TS's birthday tea in October and will probably continue to do so (in an olive-branch/peace-keeping sort of way). Wouldn't have come down if TS still had a fever -- certainly didn't expect screaming marathon overnight. MiL very good/helpful/kind and SiL that lives here is very patient, seems to enjoy TS, so I really must stop feeling guilty for his normal behavior!

Oh, and Maud, remind me...I have another badge for you. It's a local one, though, but found it when sorting out badges to sew on our blankets (TS has one, too) and thought of you.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2011 20:12

That's nice, I think. We're going on a big family holiday soon (not that we're a big family, but you see what I eman) so wish me luck.

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 20:17

It's nice that the birthday person is made to feel special and is spoiled for the day/weekend. But there's so many of them that it's overwhelming sometimes.

Holiday as in Easter or holiday as in vacation?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2011 20:20

A short vacation - the three of us, GPs, brother and SiL and their offspring. All together. It may end in tears.

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 20:25

Oh, Maud, I feel your pain. We do one of those every summer to Devon. Only ours is eight-ish days. I'm ready to go by day two. The year my SiL and her team didn't go it was lovely and everyone was so much more relaxed.

Is GardenGirl feeling better?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2011 20:29

Don't get me wrong. I'm not expecting it to be painful, but I know too that spending time with people who aren't your own family can sometimes be challenging. Bloke is quite heroic in his own way.

GardenGirl is much better. Whatever was wrong with her eyes went away. I don't think the medicine helped - it just went away on its own and we're none the wiser about what caused it.

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 20:36

There have been major arguements at ours. Mahoosive blow-outs. Ever since then I dread it every year and don't find it restful/relaxing. A week of being judged by SiL&BiL is not my idea of good times (we were judged before for not having children, now we're judged on TS and what we do/don't do with him).

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2011 20:40

Eeek. Can you just not go, or is it not that simple?

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 20:42

Wish it were that simple. But they've been going to the same place, roughly the same week, every year since MiL was preggers with MrScout (maybe even a year or two before).

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 20:46

I fancy a cream egg -- too bad my RL one is at home near Ye Ol' University and I'm near the other Ye Ol' University.

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 20:48

Speaking of Ye Ol' Universities -- who watched The Boat Race today?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2011 20:52

Ouch for the family holiday politics.

I didn't watch the boat race, as we don't have a working telly at the moment. But the wrong team won anyway!

::Hides from Oxeye::

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 20:59

It could be fab if it weren't for the politics. Tis a nice place we go and by the sea so that's enjoyable. TS liked the sea last year so am looking forward to taking him to the beach as a walker. And when he's a bit bigger I'm hoping to take him to the Moor and do some searching for the boxes (sorry, I can't remember what it's called).

Yes, agree about the teams. But the wrong team was impressive.

Thinking of going for a Mini Magnum -- would anyone care to join me? Calorie free for those that want it as such and loaded with the things for those that want them.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2011 21:07

Mini magnum? I'm in!

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 21:09

Which flavor would you like? It appears there is a freezer full (LONG story) with every flavor option. MrScout is just about to go get mine so will bring yours through as well.

Scout19075 · 26/03/2011 21:16

AWESOME!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2011 21:19

That's groovy!

I'll have a caramel one, please.

Tee2072 · 26/03/2011 21:20

Evenin' all.

Mini magnum sounds lush, thanks! Chocolate with chocolate suits me. Grin

Never been on a family holiday with my husband's family. Won't ever go one again with mine. I have 5 older brothers and sisters and even 'just immediate family' is, at this point, almost 30 people. Too many people even if we are related!! Even my mum finally agrees on that one!

MrTee keeps talking about going with his sister but I am really not all that interested. I don't really like to travel. Maybe when LCT is older.

He is, BTW, much better. Sleeping deeply for the moment. ::knock wood::

I'm off to bed. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead! And fill out your census!!
