Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Am tired, so tired. Can't make up my mind what sort of mood I'm in...

amberlight · 06/03/2011 16:33

::Amber enters the scene of first-aid related devastation::

Oh my! I leave this room alone for five minutes and look at all of you! Tsk! Grin

oxeye · 06/03/2011 18:12

::Mellor marches in, lifts Maud up and carries her to the distressed chinz sofa. He adminsters a little Mellors Magic. Maud feels better::

Amber - where for lunch? Hard to say - but probably the decision made by now?!

Why the crutches, Mary? I probably missed out several pages away hope you are ok

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/03/2011 19:17

::Maud has been enjoying an hour of Mellors' very magickal magick and is feeling very much better, thank you::

::fans self::

How was your hot lunch date, Amber?

Catitainahatita · 06/03/2011 19:22

Pops in with fresh cranberry & raison bread ready for toasting on the fire. Finds organic fresh butter to go with it and put out the Brew for all. Its one of my favourite dinner/supper type thing. I hope you all like it.
File is still lost. I've advanced searchd the bugger, I've looked via google desktop (my usual last resort). The techs recently installed windows 7 on my machine and I can't find the temporary files. Only the internet ones. Looking for the temp in the searcher pulls up nothing else.
I last night I finished half the chapter again. Tonight I shall have to do part two. I might bave well stayed home yesterday for all that.

Scout19075 · 06/03/2011 19:41

Poor Catita. Sometimes I really hate technology.

How was lunch, amber?

Tee, how's LCT?

Maud, I haven't been ignoring you, just out with MrScout & ToddlerScout.

Feel very odd -- having a very strange visit from AuntFlo.

Feel like being a domestic cooking goddess. Now need to find some receipes....

Donki · 06/03/2011 19:42

I'm Sorry Maud - I shouldn't have taken my bad mood out on you...

I really needed a massage from Mellors though, my back is acheing from unnacustomed gardening....

No excuse though.
:(

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/03/2011 19:47

It's fine, Donki. I realised you were just desperate keen to get your hooves on Mellors and his healing hands on you. I have had some lovely gardening time today. I looooove my garden.

Scout - Camembert is the devil's work and I have no idea what people do with it except stink out the place.

Donki · 06/03/2011 20:08

I was once tried and found guilty of keeping a very ripe and tasty stinky camembert in the fridge by my fellow students at Uni. The indictment, found blu-tacked to my door was signed The pongy cheese inspectorate Grin

MaryBS · 06/03/2011 20:11

oxeye, I damaged a ligament in my knee, and am having an op, on 22 March. It gave way under me on Boxing Day and have been hopping about ever since, seeing Drs, having MRI etc, until they finally decided to operate.

I like camembert with cranberry sauce on thick crusty bread.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/03/2011 20:12

We probably weren't at the same university*, Donki, but if we had been I would have been holding the inspectorate's clipboard!

Although considering the coincidence that two tea-roomers were at school together, perhaps it's not as unlikely as I at first thought.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/03/2011 20:25

In my experience ::Looks at Bloke:: the sort of people who like pongy cheese also like caramelised onion chutney with their cheese.

::gets gas mask::

oxeye · 06/03/2011 20:27

Scout = the caremalized onion chutney goes on the side (of the plate) for smearing with camembert on bread

I love camembert. My thigh size is testament to that Grin

Oh Mary, so sorry, what ligament ::geek interest::

Donki - Mellors is now ready to heal your poor back

I like to think I would be happiest all Vita Sackville Westy in a big garden, large hat, secateurs but I suspect I wouldn't

Feeling Life Ennui. It's hard. I resort to chick lit. It doesn't help - more cliches than I can shake a stick at currently on my book chair. All guaranteed to make you feel worse. Why can't I just relax and go with the (not very ambitious) flow. All these free parenting magazines full of things I Ought to Do but won't manage (from children theatre at Easter to Street Parties to Cultivating my own Herb Garden to 15 minutes a day exercise and me time.....) they land on the doormat with the thud of the proverbial gauntlet.....

Wine required

Scout19075 · 06/03/2011 20:28

I asked MrScout what he used on camambert and he said Caramelized Onion. Camambert is the only "stinky" cheese I eat -- everything else is so mild it almost doesn't have flavor. I think I've had both onion and cranberry (not together!) when out having camambert....

Scout19075 · 06/03/2011 20:33

oxeye, so as someone who likes camembert (and maybe other stinky cheeses), would you be happy to receive a jar of homemade caramelized onion chutney? I really want to make a go at it and am thinking my SiL might appreciate a jar as she's the one to introduce me to camembert but I'm wondering if she'd wonder why I was giving it to her.

oxeye · 06/03/2011 20:53

Yes indeed. Particularly if it was red onion. Do you have a recipe? I would eat it with meat (steak and ham for example) and also cheddar and all cheeses. Probably more than camembert to be honest. I love chutney too

Scout19075 · 06/03/2011 21:08

Well, I have an apple & onion chutney receipe in the National Trust receipe book I got for Christmas (geeky, I know, but was very excited about it as I love cooking & baking and love NT days out with Mr&ToddlerScout). And I found a normal carmelized onion chutney receipe on the BBCFood website.

teafortwo · 06/03/2011 22:03

I have a memory of someone melting camembert and then us all dipping stuff in it... yum yum!!!

This Tuesday it is international womens day, pancake day, mardi gras and Beer's birthday! I am starting to plan how to juggle the whole day so everyone has fun! - Eeeek!

oxeye · 07/03/2011 00:40

Easy tea - you flip pancakes while dancing wildly and nakkidly in the flat wearing nothing but smiles and plastic beads. You blow a whistle while doing this and sing Happy Birthday Mr President in an alluring breathy Marilyn way

That takes care of pancake day, mardi gras and Beer's birthday.

Then you remind him you are multi-tasking and it's not funny - and that covers international womens day Wink

amberlight · 07/03/2011 07:15

::Amber covers her eyes in alarm, just in case Shock:: Grin

The lunch turned into an evening chinese takeaway and birthday cake with candles, which was absolutely splendid.

Off to Salisbury today - wonderful place.

teafortwo · 07/03/2011 09:31

OXEYE - WOW... ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!!!

I used our family culture vouchers (merci Beer's work) to buy a camera yesterday!!! So, tomorrow I will be following your instructions as closely as possible; and then I will put photographic evidence up very soon... Hmm or Blush maybe not!!!

Brew anyone...?

amberlight · 07/03/2011 09:58

Yes please. Salisbury no longer the destination for today - steroid mini withdrawal wobbliness. Drat.

teafortwo · 07/03/2011 10:03

Sorry to hear about your wobbliness Amber. Here have a flower - St Davids

amberlight · 07/03/2011 10:04

Thanks
