Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Saw an interesting recipe on TV for banana pancakes with bacon. Hmm

Glad things are going well, Amber. Enjoy the day and try not to let worrying about future effects spoil it.

amberlight · 05/03/2011 08:16

Envy with bacon?? And banana?

Tee2072 · 05/03/2011 09:02

::stumbles in, falls on fainting couch, starts snoring::

LCT woke up at 0058. And was still awake at 0430 when his toddler strop, over what, I don't know, woke MrTee, who sent me to bed. So MrTee's had about 4 hours of sleep, in a row. And I've had about 2 hours and then 2 hours.

::hands 'round coffee and No Doze::

amberlight · 05/03/2011 09:39

::places tea room blanket over Tee and tiptoes out of the room::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/03/2011 11:51

::Puts a plate of warm sticky buns and a jug of frothy hot chocolate on the Aga, ready for when everyone wakes up::

::Erects NMB-proof barricade around them, just to be sure::

Catitainahatita · 05/03/2011 17:02

Ta very much Maud.
I am at work today, which is good and not good at the same time. I am here becasue this week I have made it in to the office a grand total of twice because as soon as Kittenito got over his d and v bug, Gatita started. I have things that have to be done for Monday and so here I am. It's bad because this means Mr. H is in charge at home and currently, he isn't very much in charge of anything. Chaos will greet me on my return. I have left them all food and things ready to be warmed up etc. So hopefully noone will starve, although I expect a trip to the corner shop will ensure that Kittenito at least gourges hinmself on crisps and biscuits.
Perhaps if I install a covert camara at home and spy from work, issuing instructions like BB through the television?

I think I need . I am turning into a family dictator.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/03/2011 17:08

Oh dear, Catita. Has all that study of South American dictators given you ideas? (And yes I know that Mexico isn't in South America, that was just my feeble joke).

::Nevertheless, installs secret camera to see if Catita is wearing a jacket with a lot of gold buttons and braided epaulettes::

It is very wearing, being the one who holds it all together. The sun is very nearly over the yardarm here (not that we've actually had any sun today but you get my drift). Shall we open the Wine? Or climb onto the hers and hers massage tables and wait for Mellors?

Catitainahatita · 05/03/2011 17:29

No epaulettes here, fortunately. But I am sporting a lovely little flower that K gave to me before I left this morning. He also told me that he would look after papi and G and that I shouldn't worry. I am unsure of whether this comment should be followed by a Smile or Sad.
I shall give the massage a miss as I find them very stressful.
The Wine however is not stressful at all.

Right back to marking.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/03/2011 18:24

::Clinks Wine glasses::

To me, that story about K sounds extra-uber-Smile but I understand your ambivalence.

::Climbs onto massage table and waits for Mellors::

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/03/2011 21:13

I've never had a massage - on cost grounds - but always wanted to try it.
However, I have already had one Wine this evening.
Agent, I have been pondering your (very perceptive)remark and, it's true, I do really like Wriggle. Not always the case; we are very lucky.
Tea, this evening Wriggle discovered the Milkshake website (CBeebies runs very slowly on our computer). She has never done anything like that and was so excited that it was very hard to get her to stop for the night. I remember once you recommended a site, but at the time Wriggle couldn't really follow what was going on. Have you got any recommendations for fun French sites suitable for 3 year olds?

teafortwo · 05/03/2011 21:36

Unserp - All of the sites Milk loves are in English and I thoroughly encourage that! I will ask some French speaking friends if they know of any good French websites. I am sad that BBC runs so badly on your computer. IMHO it is VERY good quality.

Scout - Those clothes are very cheery!

Amber - Did you specifically link to that camera because you particularly recommend it?

amberlight · 05/03/2011 21:40

We have some of those as our cameras for our surveyors and they have been great, so yes.

CMOTdibbler · 05/03/2011 21:47

DS loves tasking photos with my camera, and I sometimes just let him take photos round the house. His reportage of what matters to him is fascinating. I really wouldn't bother with a childrens camera tbh

teafortwo · 05/03/2011 21:48

THANKS - that is VERY helpful!!!

Tee2072 · 05/03/2011 21:51

Evening all.

LCT is sleeping with a humidifier...and not a peep since he went down. ::Fingers crossed::

What age do you think kids can start using websites? He likes to sit in my lap and look at things on Cbeebies and such, but I am wondering when I can hand him the mouse!

CMOT MrTee has an iPhone 4, which has a camera that faces the user. LCT loves taking pictures of himself with it! We've actually gotten some great shots.

::hands 'round Wine, Brew and [biscuits]::

And that's me in bed!

Catitainahatita · 05/03/2011 21:52

Heads woefully to the priesthole.
I was just about to head home. I had finished correcting a student's thesis chapter. I then tried to email it to him only to discover that my computer denies all knowledge of the corrected version. It does not appear as a recent document, nor can it be found by search. Now I had opened it directly from the said student's mail but I distinctly remember saving it under a new name. Yet this pulls no results in the search.
I now have to stay and do the whole six hour revision all over again.
Pass the whisky down please.

Oh no Catita!

::winches down the whisky, some gingerbread and a fluffy blanket to keep you warm::

Catitainahatita · 05/03/2011 22:07

Ta. It's *ing annoying to know I did something silly.
My computer whizz flatmate always said that computers are only as clever as their users.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/03/2011 22:11

Noooo, Catita! How awful. Is it any consolation to know that you will correct it much faster this time? (Speaks from experience Sad)

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/03/2011 22:12

[stdavidsbrew]

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/03/2011 22:13

How do you get the blasted daffodils into the mugs??? When they are not flying around my ears, that is.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/03/2011 22:16

Do a St Davids, then press return so that the Brew is underneath it. For a row, do a row of St Davids, then press return and do a row of Brew. I haven't yet worked out how many St Davids you need to make a complete row with no stragglers.

Catitainahatita · 05/03/2011 22:17

I think you have to put the daffodil thingy directly above the tea thingy like this

[ stdavids ]
[ brew ]

St Davids Brew

Hmmm

And similarly for the dunking emoticon.
