Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Wotcha ladies.
I'm afraid I just can't keep up. But I've made it here which is the important thing.
Also we have Brew [biscuits] and Wine so that's the basics covered. How long do you think it will be before there's a campaign for a chocolate emoticon?

Oh, and JM, I hate break it you but aspidistras are indestructible in my experience. We're been at minus something all this week and last: my fruit trees, desidious (sp) and all other greens in the garden have given up the ghost, shed their leaves and gone into hibernation until the heat comes back. The cacti and the like are still going strong. One of them is still in bloom Shock

purpleknittingmum · 12/02/2011 21:20

Oh yes a chocolate emoticon would be fab!! :o

CMOTdibbler · 12/02/2011 21:23

Brew - hello all. Am watching the Rocky Horror Glee Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 21:24

Rocky Horror Glee! Where? Where?

::Grabs remote from The Gardener::

Scout19075 · 12/02/2011 21:28

I have it on record. Is it good?

purpleknittingmum · 12/02/2011 21:30

I haven't watched all of the last series of Glee yet! Just watch an episode when I can

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 21:32

I am a very very recent convert to Glee, so have justs been rummaging on YT.

::Sets the glitter balls in motion::

!
CMOTdibbler · 12/02/2011 21:33

Mine is sky+ from Tuesday, back on e4 tomorrow night.

I'm enjoying it - nice to chill out with CMOTbloke after being away all week

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 21:35

How is CmotBloke doing? And how are you?

More Wine?

CMOTdibbler · 12/02/2011 21:48

Hmm - cmotbloke is okish as long as nothing stressful happens. I feel bad for being away, but it had to happen.

I'm pretty good - work is going to be horrible for a couple of months, but its that time of year. No hand progress though.

how is all in the garden ?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 21:51

Pretty good here. We're all well. The actual garden is emerging from its winter gloom and that always cheers me up. Work is busy, which I like. When it gets frantic, though ...

NormanTheForeman · 12/02/2011 21:54

I think MmeLindt has already been asking for a chocolate emoticon!

I hope you like the Brew

I really didn't think it would come to anything when I started the campaign.....

Scout19075 · 12/02/2011 21:56

Okay.... Hmm

Tee2072 · 12/02/2011 21:57

Ta Scout. LCT seems to be skeeping well and I'm all tucked in myself. A good nights sleep would be a fine thing.

I watched the 1st series of Glee bur thought the 2nd series opener was so bad I haven't watched it since.

oxeye · 12/02/2011 22:04

I am laughing so much at the Aspidestra saga. I can see he nmbs have mounted a teeny tiny picket around the thicket. If nothing else their teeny tiny braziers will keep the plants warm Grin
I like our Moose. What shall we call him? Boris?

Tea looking forward to vicarious valentine. Oxbloke doesn't do V day but oxboy came home from school with a V card made and written by him. His first proper writing. So I have already had my heart break and choke moment for V day

scout Mr Scouts routine sounds brutal
cmot how are mrcmots employers? Being supportive?
Catita how lovely to see you. Don't worry re catching up. Like the best of friends it doesn't matter. You just drop in and pick up

did any of you read that daily mail article about mums online? Some of it I thought interesting about how we prioritise text and email in our lives but what it failed to grasp I thought was that t'internet is a reflection of life. Yes it can be used to waste time but the idea that it can also be a wholly positive mechanism for communication and friendship on unique terms was wholly missed
so Wine to you all dear ladies

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 22:11

Err, I saw that DM piece through a link on here. You're right, Oxeye, about the positives of electronic communication. Through Friends Reunited (now almost obsolete, it seems) I made contact with my best friend from primary school who moved away when we were about 9 and now we have a fabulous long-distance friendship again. It would never have happened without t'web.

And none of us would have met without t'web either.

So more Wine all round.

Jacksmania · 12/02/2011 22:15

Hmmm, I don't see a single living aspidistra here. I think they've all shriveled up and died from the cold.
Oh yes, look, here are all their poor frost-blackened little remnants.

Ah well.

:o

Brew or Wine, anyone?

OP posts:
oxeye · 12/02/2011 22:16

Oh yes. Weird friends thing isn't it? I only read the dm article via link I must emphasise. It's not my organ of choice, so to speak Wink

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 22:18

As the actress said to the bishop. Oh no! What have I said?

::Flees as a posse of outraged bishops emerges from the priest's hole::

CMOTdibbler · 12/02/2011 22:18
Scout19075 · 12/02/2011 22:24

Warning: Sadness

Just found out another woman in green is (most likely) dying -- cheemo hasn't worked and she's been given months. She's not much older than me (but younger than my mom).

Sh!t.

UniS · 12/02/2011 22:25

When I was small my mum would "waste" hours chatting with neighbours/ friends/who ever she bumped into down teh shops... She was so rooted in our community that she really did know almost every one and wanted to keep up with their news, pass on hers and pass the time of day.

30 years on, fewer of us live in a community where we have those frequent chance social moments in real life, and some of us have found that on line we can be part of a network of friends via text, we can "bump into each other" on fora like this one, we can chat, giggle, exchange news, hold each other in hearts and be part of a community which is not based on where we are geographically, but on mutual like of Brew and Biscuit.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 22:28

Exactly, Unis.

::Holds Scout's hand across the miles::

Scout19075 · 12/02/2011 22:31

Cheers, Maud. This is my three -- it can stop now.

If it hadn't been for the intraweb MrScout and I probably wouldn't have flourished as a couple. It allows me to keep in (nearly daily) contact with my parents who are watching BabyScout grow as if they're in the same country. I chat with old friends I haven't seen in ages and make plans with new friends.

And of course there's all of you lovely ladies!

AgenteSecrete · 12/02/2011 22:53

Hello, have lurked on here for a while now and been thinking about coming in for a Brew, is there room for a not quite so littl'un any more on one of those sofas?

I am here in the UK with MrSecret and our SecretBoy (3.4) and highly unlikely to have any more Little Secrets, which I have mixed feelings about... but given that SecretBoy was very much a child "against all odds" (does anyone remember that series a few years back?), on the whole, very happy that we are a family at all. And actually really enjoying it being just us atm.

Am prone to rambling but need to get to bed now so will restrain myself. Just thought I'd dip my toe in the water, so to speak. Hello all anyway!
