Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Under UniS's picture - maybe we could have a little glade of aspidistras?

Donki · 11/02/2011 23:16

Night night Serpent... I think we can sleep the sleep of the blessed after a Job Well Done!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 11/02/2011 23:24

I'll take first watch.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/02/2011 23:35

::Totters through the snow carrying a propagator full of aspidistra cuttings::

Phew! Made it.

Jacksmania · 12/02/2011 04:27

You realize you've condemned all of them to a miserable death by cold? :o Aspidistras do not do well in the Rockies. Just sayin'.

Nice cabin, JM.

Have we acquired a moose to join the menagerie?

MaryBS · 12/02/2011 09:17

Dunno about mooose, but chocolate mousse available...

Is that a Biodome I see Mellors building? I guess the Aspidistras could go in there...?

thumbdabwitch · 12/02/2011 09:20

ooo chocolate mousse - yummmm..

Donki · 12/02/2011 10:00

What's that in your hand JM? It looks suspiciously like weedkiller...

MaryBS · 12/02/2011 10:38

The morning post has arrived... I've heard from the gastrointestinal clinic - they are requesting a coeliac serology blood test be done. Is that because they did or didn't find anything when they did the gastroscopy?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 13:44

Oh, I dunno, Mary. My gastroscopy was the end of the line so I don't know what comes next. Maybe it's because the results were ambiguous so this will provide additional information?

I reckon the biome will suit the aspisdistras very well. But, anyway, as this is the tea room of requirement where the usual rules of physics don't apply, I doubt that the normal rules of horticulture do either. So the aspidistras will flourish here, immune to whatever JM does to them. They're not known as the cast iron plant for nothing.

::evil cackle::

thumbdabwitch · 12/02/2011 14:03

DIdn't they do the coeliac blood test before the gastroscopy, Mary?Shock
Although... gastroscopy is for the stomach; a coeliac check needs to be of the small intestine to see whether or not the villi have been damaged... not sure if the gastroscope goes that far!
But I would say just that they are looking for further information, which means that whatever they found on the gastroscopy wasn't conclusive.

I don't know whether you've been eating gluten-free for a while now or not - but if you are, then you will have to go back on it prior to the test being done to provoke a reaction if there is going to be one, otherwise that will be inconclusive as well.

MaryBS · 12/02/2011 14:30

Yes, they did a Coeliac blood test, before, but I wondered if this one was different? The gastroscopy was supposed to go into the small intestine too, I think. I've stayed eating gluten, so I guess that will help. Its confusing though. My next appointment there isn't till 30 March.

Tee2072 · 12/02/2011 16:15

::tee wanders in, grabs some pillows and a blanket and goes into the priest hole::

::whispers:: I'm hiding from a small boy. SHHHH!

Jacksmania · 12/02/2011 16:37

I reiterate: no matter what you do, aspidistras do not thrive in the Rockies.

Which is the very opposite of what I'm doing in RL - JB's birthday party today (his actual birthday is tomorrow), then his 3-days-older buddy's birthday party tomorrow, and then a birthday party dinner for the family tomorrow evening. Phew...

JM - you're going to start gibbering soon if you're not careful - let them have their aspidistra in the biodome, it can't hurt you there. Grin

UniS · 12/02/2011 18:50

If JM is hosting a birthday party this weekend, she IS already gibbering. Good luck JM, how many lil darlings and parents have you invited?

I may not be about much next week, have some work requiring my attention , paid, So I guess I should concentrate on it.

purpleknittingmum · 12/02/2011 20:28

Hello! Flying visit, hope you are all well, same old same old with my daughter

Right, off to do my knitting, nearly finshed the front of my tunic I am knitting for myself! And I am nearly finished the fingerless mittens for a lady on here, apologies, can't remember her name!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2011 20:44

Crikey, PKM. Do you have several knitting projects on the go at once? I can only manage one project at a time ::contemplates tapestry which she started before GardenGirl was born and is still unfinished:: 'Twas me who commissioned the mittens.

(Just been trying to spend MrScouts money -- wonder if he took the hint to order what I've sent him links for)

Don't mind if I do, Maud, thanks!

Happy Birthday, JB!

MrScout (finally) got to see BabyScout toddle from the kitchen to the living room today. He was so full of praise and pride and BabyScout just lapped up all the extra attention from his daddy. Is very sweet to watch them together -- they totally adore each other.

Scout19075 · 12/02/2011 21:00

((D'oh! MrScout's....))

purpleknittingmum · 12/02/2011 21:05

LaVieEnTechnicolour, that is who I am knitting for!

Finsihed the front! Have earnt a little break now!! :o Oh you changed your name! Oh I am new here and struggle to keep up!!

Great Scout!!

nabs a biccie!

purpleknittingmum · 12/02/2011 21:07

ComeInToTheGardenMaud, I don't normally work on more than one thing at a time but with the mittens and mobile phone socks, they are small and quick to do, so I often take them to work to do on breaks and then do my 'big' project before work and evenings. I have a cross stitch picture I started about 8 years ago that hasn't been touched in about 4 years, and a huge cross stitch of a peacock I bought about 6 years ago not started!

Tee2072 · 12/02/2011 21:09

::reaches her Wine glass out from the priests hole::

Anyone have a refill?

My fibro is very bad today and I'm self medicating with booze. Is that wrong? Hmm
