Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Get some real food young lady ::stern look:: A diversion into Pret for a pot of porridge will do you a huge favour later.

Mini daffs are out here. Hopefully a harbinger of spring and brighter days

Scout19075 · 01/03/2011 15:18

I am a human popsicle -- does anyone have a blanket?

amberlight · 01/03/2011 15:44

Not only a blanket but a warm Mellors and a hot water bottle, plus a hot toddy to go with it. Any good?

Tee2072 · 01/03/2011 15:48

::Sticks head out of priest hole to reach for a hot toddy::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 01/03/2011 15:58

I'm so cold I'm wearing the lovely cosy wristwarmers that PKM made for me.

Hot buffet now available - hot chocolate, soup, porridge ::looks sternly at Oxeye:: and pancakes.

Scout19075 · 01/03/2011 16:07

Maud -- I've posted on the other Tea Room. Do you think you can pop over some time and offer any suggestions? Maybe get it back so people notice it's there?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 01/03/2011 16:47

Sorry, Scout, I hadn't replied because I didn't have any useful suggestions. I'll try to go into the shop tomorrow and see what's there.

Scout19075 · 01/03/2011 17:45

No worries, Maud! I just know that you and I try to revive that thread every now and again so that maybe if we got chattering it would flag up on people's screens.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 01/03/2011 17:56

Yes, I do try to breathe life into it every now and then.

Jacksmania · 01/03/2011 18:45

I love fleurs. In case anyone is wondering.

Jacksmania · 01/03/2011 18:47

By the way "fleurs" is a family joke. Dh says "fleur" is the only French word he knows, and to be funny he pluralises it in English. It stuck :o

Scout, I went over to the other tea room (FB?) to see if I could help by boosting it, but can't find anything. I do get so confused about names. Thinking of changing our RL names to Wriggle and Serpent.

Have had a very strange day. Chased escaped chickens around garden for a while, helped by excitable collie and 80-year old with two sticks. Took Wriggle to playgroup but was so cold and tired that I abandoned her and went home for a shower (something I don't often have time for in the mornings). Went back, picked her up with friend to go to the house of another friend where I had offered to do child care while she did some essential work in the house she is selling. Car broke down, waited for the AA for an hour, AA came, car started first time (of course). Went home with hungry disappointed girls, friend I hadn't helped rather peeved. Did masses of hoovering. Shouted at Wriggle, friend, dog, poor Aged Parent. Washed all throws where dog had rolled in fox poo. Tried to give away dog. Put Wriggle's friend's zip-up Peruvian-style cardi on Rayburn to dry and melted one tiny tooth on zip. Child also in instant melt down. Wriggle also inconsolable, becoming hysterical due to itchy spot on her back. Wriggle fell asleep on my lap, so that I can watch spots pop out all over her face.

UnAgentSecrete · 01/03/2011 21:33

One of those days, eh, Serpent? Are you ready for Wine yet? (btw, I too have done the wait for the AA for an hour only for it to blimmin well start straight off thing - was seriously Blush but at least it was in the summer and not cold like this.)

Mary, that's great news about DD's school choice, that must be a great relief. Not that I have any experience of going through all that yet, but from what I hear it's a pretty big deal!

Unis - sorry to hear about your granny, I'll Brew to her too.

Have seen a couple of names from here while lurking on the Home Ed boards, is anyone here actually doing or thinking of doing Home Ed? I fantasise about it sometimes but proabably will need the time for myself too much. And SBoy having just started at nursery last month seems to quite enjoy it. Not every day though, Mummy, as he said Smile

Et oui, les petites fleurs sont vraiment tres jolies! St Davids St Davids St Davids

Donki · 01/03/2011 21:37

Tea anyone?
Carrots?

A Gwyl Dewi dda i chi pawb! St Davids

Now do you think I can get MNHQ to do me a carrot emoticon? But it wouldn't taste as good as the real thing....

Oh, and school have definitely said that I have a permanent part-time job (although I havne't yet got a permanent part-time contract.... sayings about counting gallinacious fowls come to mine). They have dealt expeditiously and supportively with the incident before half term.

Donki · 01/03/2011 21:38

(Drat, must proof-read before posting.
Mind, not mine)

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 01/03/2011 21:53

Congratulations, Donki.

And to Mary.

Agentsecrete, we are agonising thinking about it. We have friends who do it. Time for myself will never in any case be an option, as the minute Wriggle is in school I will be back at work full time. I see both pros and cons.

UnAgentSecrete · 01/03/2011 22:08

Ooh it's nice to hear someone else is agonising in two minds about it, Serpent. I don't know anyone in RL who would even consider it. And yes, there are definitely pros and cons to both sides - makes life so difficult, the only decisions I really like are the ones where it's a great big obvious no brainer.

Is it anything to do with the schools in your area or is it a more general thing?

Great news Donki, that must be a weight off your mind.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 01/03/2011 22:22

No, our local primary is small and lovely. We just think that 4 or 5 is too young. We would probably send her to school when she is older - 6 or 7 as in Northern Europe. We have German friends whose daughter started at 6 and a bit and was so ready.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 01/03/2011 22:23

And school is so uniform and constricting -I know; I teach in one.

Scout19075 · 01/03/2011 22:26

We're going to Homeschool. I know several families here in the UK that do (partially because I sought them out) and a few in the US (a friend of mine was and she's now home schooling her children).

The other Tea Room, in this case, I meant the Guiders one over in Extra Curricular Activities. Trying to get some ideas for my Seniors.
