Tea room 22- A Farmhouse kitchen, anyone for a cuppa?

Welcome to the 22nd incarnation of the tea room. This time we are watching for spring from a cosy farmhouse kitchen. There is an aga for baking virtual cakes and an inglenook with toasty fire and settles to rest weary bones on. The distressed chintz sofa and footstool have arrived safe and sound and the priest hole is around here somewhere. On the Window sill is an aspidistra its pot surrounded by a hand holding circle of nearly naked mohawk babies, they have placards and a brazier.

Outside in the surrounding fields can be found the tea room horses, Earl and Lady Grey, also a herd of bison AND a Ha Ha to keep the bishops from invading.

Usual rules apply, no fisticuffs, if you want an argument go else where. Mellors the butler / game keeper will supply all sorts of things on request. Welcome Mums of one, none or many to the tea room of requirement.

Cup emoticon voting has now opened and can be found here!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 09/02/2011 12:10

Have not forgotten your parcel, Mistle! Yesterday I went on 'learn to use your sewing machine' day, so I am closer to being able to make 'the thing to wear'. Jealous of competent knitters such asd UniS, Dutch Oma and PKM.

thumbdabwitch · 09/02/2011 12:28

MrThumb is away for 3 nights. He is at a company jolly conference in Brisbane. I find that miniThumb's sudden burst of exuberance after dinner is far more wearing when there is only me to deal with it - and Shouty Thumb definitely comes to the fore.

Mind you, miniThumb had his first trip to the cinema today - we went to see a matinée performance of Tangled - only 5 of us in the whole room, so that helped! miniT was very well behaved, really - but then I was far more relaxed because there was no one there for him to annoy.

I wish I could muster the energy and enthusiasm to do some knitting/sewing - currently it's all I can manage to do the washing. Blush

Cup voted for!

Been to buy a wig from a specialist. What a lovely lady! We ended up chatting about autism through most of it and having a right old giggle. Then my dsis and I went to the pub for a meal.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2011 17:13

Cup voted for. Although I am confused why it needed a vote when Wine, Biscuit and Bear didn't need one. Hmm

Half wasted day, half useful day. I may get a new client from it, so not all bad.

Mac & Cheese for tea. Who would like a plate?

NormanTheForeman · 09/02/2011 17:24

I think that opinion was divided at MNHQ, so they thought they had better let the MNers decide! Thank you for voting, it seems to be going well so far...

amberlight · 09/02/2011 17:25

Yes please for macaroni cheese! Haven't had that for years..

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 09/02/2011 17:48

Macaroni cheese was always my extreme comfort food.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2011 18:09

::dishes up her made from scratch mac and cheese for all::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/02/2011 19:02

It speaks volumes about MN's predilections that Wine was introduced with no debate, yet [tea] requires a referendum!

Yes please to macaroni cheese. We don't get enough of it in this house.

purpleknittingmum · 09/02/2011 19:58

ooo I hate macaroni cheese! I like pizza and melted cheese on some stuff but not macaroni cheese! I am strange!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/02/2011 20:01

GardenGirl likes melted cheese on pizza but refuses anything in cheese sauce. Kids, eh?

morning all.

have voted on cuppa reformrendem.. how exciting... what do we want, we want a cuppa, when do we want it? At some point in teh future when every one has been consulted and a majority viewpoint reached. IS a tad long winded as a slogan, but heck, it'll do.

Hi Norman, Yes please I would like one, white no sugar, Ta.

Waves at Mistle. I was just wondering how Mistle chick was getting on in Y1 and Lo, you come and let us know, thank you. Boy is rapidly looking like MC was a year ago ( preloved clothes are wonderfull), complete with bellowing "WOT" at every opportunity and being gentle and huggy towards smaller children whilst battering his peers and pulling them round by their anorak hoods. Ho Hum...

I may well give boy a duvet day next week or maybe even this friday, hes just shattered. Playdate * after school today, he handled it quite well, but when I took him home after tea at 6 he was all for going straight to bed.

  • late playdate coz DH and I were at DHs grans funeral and Playdate mum was helping us out.

The bus display is still very interesting, I've learnt several new things about the number 63. Thank you Mary.

I thought it was a particularly fine example of the 166 myself - copmplete with guide wheels for the self guided bus way...

However, please don't catch any more buses from round here Mary - DH was complaining that his bus home didn't come... :)

Spent today at home feeling vile (asleep mostly). vomiting bug going round at school.

oxeye · 09/02/2011 22:11

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/02/2011 22:18

Glad to hear that OxBloke is back, Oxeye, but what's this about clocking your pot belly?

::whispers: giant lycra pants (think Bridget Jones) are the answer::

Yes, it's lovely to see Mistle again.

A question - DH very excited at having spent hours in the swimming pool with Wriggle and friend. Wants to buy toys to make it even more fun as there was a little boy with a ball. Any other ideas for (preferably free/cheap) games to improve water confidence?

Scout19075 · 09/02/2011 23:15

Does Wiggle go under water (either straight down or in a glide)?

Scout19075 · 09/02/2011 23:16

Sorry, Wriggle. D'oh!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/02/2011 23:23

Noodles/woggles/whatever you call them only cost a couple of pounds and are very versatile!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/02/2011 23:32

And you won't need to buy one if the pool has its own stash.

How well can Wriggle keep herself afloat? GardenGirlie liked to 'ride' a noodle like a horse (ie sit astride it and pedal feet in bicycle style, thereby moving forward) but that requires some balance.

Scout19075 · 09/02/2011 23:39

Oh, we do horsey on noodles at Baby Swimming -- it's hell on the calves (for parents), especially if you prance into the very shallow water, but the babies seem to enjoy it (when they're not eating the noodles (I call them noodles but everyone else in my swimming group calls them woggles but to me a woggle is what a Scout uses to keep his necker on).

I was going to suggest things like rubber ducks to chase on top of the water or diving sticks to practc under water skills.

oxeye · 09/02/2011 23:47

::glugs Bolly::
yes, Oxbloke back. Rugged and lean. Unlike me. He clocked my belly cos he doesn't seem to have noticed that most of OxBoys games start with things like "Ooo Mummy we need a nice floppy surface.... like your tummy" etc etc.... anyway, enough!!

UnSerp = yes to woggles, most pools have them. Balls can be a pain, but small inflatable one. Dive sticks etc but best thing is a pair of goggles for Wriggle so her eyes are ok underwater - made all the difference here
