Tea Room the Nineteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

(((HUGS)) Scout - I know how hard it is to leave family. I cry every time my mum leaves or I have to leave again. Saying goodbye at the airport is so hard. :(:(:(

Thank you very much for my parcel, I'm so excited!! xx

I don't know if the antibiotics could have kicked in this quickly, but I don't hurt as much. If JB didn't have a cough, I'd actually have had a relatively decent night.

Love the idea of antibiotic fruit punch. Let's see, strawberry-banana-flavoured ABs... let's add some orange juice, grenadine, and vodka? And some bar lime? Sort of like a Planter's Punch :o

Thank you Small and Amber for the hugs on the other site. So very sweet of you both :)

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 28/11/2010 20:26

Thumb, thanks for advice. Will try and track down oils this week inbetween nearly full time work in rural area with few shops. Sounds like it could do us all good.

Sympathy and ((hugs)) to JM. Not much time for mning now as having to go to bed with Wriggle due to nightmares and much increased work hours. But good thoughts to all.

oxeye · 28/11/2010 21:47

this is very fine punch Small and JM - not sure it is worth the stitches, but heh, I am game for the cure!

Scout - good luck with flight and glad you have had a good time

Blush I haven't forgotten your parcel Small, it just has the gestation of an elephant rather than a mouse Hmm

Racing hope wriggle is ok - can you get the oils by parcel / internet? If not I can get them here and post them to you? let me know Grin

Amber, hope Church was good and fine

hugs to all

thumbwitch · 28/11/2010 21:51

Serpent - try this website - click on Pure Essential Oils on the left hand menu - they have all the oils I suggested and only have a minimum order requirement of £7.50, with no P&P if you spend over that.
There are different sizes of some of the oils; you will only need the smallest Roman Chamomile, there is only one of the mandarin and the orange anyway, and for the lavender I would actually get a 30ml bottle if you can afford it (either of the French lavenders they list will do, I confess that I don't know the difference between 40/42% and B.P., although I know the latter is British Pharmaceutical grade) because it is so useful for other things, like burns etc.

Will get you everything you need with minimum fuss, cost and pother. :)

asmallbunchofflowers · 28/11/2010 22:20

Oxeye - Don't worry. The components of Serpent's parcel have been here for weeks because I lack the organisational skills to acquire a jiffy bag.

UniS · 28/11/2010 22:49

eveing all. just slightly pished. back from eth pub. So I'll just collapse on eth sofa here an start snoring. We didn;t come last or frst in teh pub quiz, I did win a box of chocs in teh raffle and my team did get eteh giggles during teh sports round coz we were quite soooo rubish.

Blimey , this punch is goooood. sort of banana and strawberry witha twist and kick.

asmallbunchofflowers · 28/11/2010 22:58
UniS · 28/11/2010 23:06

Unis passes over a hot water bottle.

oxeye · 28/11/2010 23:54

Thanks for the hot water bottle

I think ShockShockShock is what we look like in a row on the sofa!

asmallbunchofflowers · 28/11/2010 23:57

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Good night all.

Jacksmama · 29/11/2010 04:30

Night all. I'm huddling for warmth, it's bloody freezing here.

amberlight · 29/11/2010 06:58

It's not a lot warmer here, that's for sure.
Church was good, thankfully.

Off to London today to see an art exhibition with dh. Should be good if we don't die of exposure on the way there or back...

asmallbunchofflowers · 29/11/2010 10:51

It is so cold here. Especially for those of us who got a puncture on the school run and have been waiting for the breakdown service to come and change the wheel.

Would anyone like some hot chocolate?

Which exhibition are you going to, Amber? There are lots of good ones at the moment.

amberlight · 29/11/2010 17:12

Yes please for the hot choc. Have returned from London, lightly frozen but thoroughly enjoyed the Canaletto exhibition (though some of the paintings they say are by him aren't by him but bagsy I don't tell them that...)
And saw lots of horses (not in the gallery!)
And visited Westminster Abbey
And had a nice lunch with dh
Then sat on the train and read a book of statistics on ships Grin

asmallbunchofflowers · 29/11/2010 17:16

Where did you have lunch? I like the posh caff in the National Gallery.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 29/11/2010 17:32

O|xeye and Thumb - oils ordered. Thank you! I always think I don't want to wait for postal sales and it is always faster.

amberlight · 29/11/2010 17:38

Frankies, not far from the front of the National. Nice Italian food, friendly staff, very Amber-friendly.

The posh caff is a bit echoey for me, though lovely setting.

Sad Day 1 of diet - decided that I need to do something about the way I look, so decided on diet I read about in the paper. Now very hungry, extremely cold, tired (whole day at work after night of Wriggle coughing/crying/kicking and the smoke alarm going beep every 30 seconds) and irritable. Have shouted at Wriggle who is sitting in front of Waybaloo crying, "I'm so so so so sorry, Serpent." Does this bode well?

Small, bad luck about school run - think breakdown services are a bit overwhelmed. Maybe you need to stock the car with magazines, handwarmers and slices of rather good fruit cake?

Amber, very envious of peaceful train journey

JM. don't know if I believe this, but I think it said on the news this morning that the UK was the coldest place on earth(?) yesterday. Or maybe in Europe. Both seem unlikely. But do have another hot water bottle on the sofa (which remember is in the South of France.)

asmallbunchofflowers · 29/11/2010 19:18

Well done on the diet, Serpent.

Well, it was An Experience. Thankfully the tyre could be repaired, so I emerged with change from £30. Hooray.

Virtual, non-fattening Bolly, anyone?

Jacksmama · 29/11/2010 21:12

I'll have some.

I believe that the UK is the coldest place on earth right now. Have been Googling your weather and been Shock. It's a mere 3 degrees C here, so heaven only knows what I'm complaining about. But I'm chilled all over. Jackbaby has a cold and had a miserable night, so maybe it's fatigue.

For those who want to know, stitches are feeling better. Am dealing with some fall-out from the antibiotics, but not too bad. Yet. Hmm

Donki · 29/11/2010 22:38
thumbwitch · 29/11/2010 22:44

JBM - I think you might be right. If your fallout is what I think it is, can you take pre-emptive action? I'm thinking that maybe the yoghurt wouldn't be the best plan at the moment, not in direct contact, but get eating biolive yoghurt straight away to try and keep the balance.

Serpent - good news that you have got the oils and that Wriggle is feeling sorry that she has upset you.

Small - argh! re breakdown in freezing weather but glad it could be repaired.

Amber - I have strong ishoos with Canaletto. Mostly because when I worked for an art and antique dealer, I had to check that the various photos of Canaletto paintings were in fact the same ones or slightly different (he had an archive, basically a massive scrapbook collection, of all sorts of art and antiquities, detailing their last sale price and when and to whom sold, when known.)
Canaletto was basically a postcard painter and painted the same view over and over, with sometimes only a single awning different. GAh! The Brueghels were just as bad for painting the same scene over and over again - drove me bats!

It's colder than it should be here - only about 18deg yesterday, whereas this time last year we were already up in the 30s. It's cool and rainy today and supposed to be like it for the rest of the week too - but I'm hoping it will at least be dry on Saturday, when we take miniThumb into Sydney for his birthday trip.

oxeye · 29/11/2010 22:53

Amber glad you had a great day, you deserve it. I might have cycled past you Grin
I want to go and see the Gaughin, love museums, mostly just go past them.... but it's a start!

Racing, oh I am so sorry about Wriggle, I am sure she is fine, you are bound to be scratchy with no sleep. The oils will help you all. Go go go with the diet. I am ashamed to say my wibbly tummy reduced radically when Oxbloke was away - simply fewer large meals and less wine and I was away! DH is bad for me!!

Small sorry about tyre but a bit good news only a tidge of money? We had a Failed MOT moment and I have a Speed Camera moment too so driving and I are not best friends Hmm

PASS THE BOLLY PLEASE!!!

Anyone listening to Dawn French story? It makes me sad about teen daughters. I might turn off. Not so funny....

amberlight · 30/11/2010 06:45

We have snow! Shock

DS & Dawn/Lenny's daughter were at the same school for many years until very recently so we know a modest amount but our lips are sealed. Didn't see whatever it was that you were watching, though? So tired after yesterday that I was in bed very early.

Canaletto - I simply love Venice and could look at paintings of it all day every day Smile

UnSerpent, arrgh re wriggle moment. All will be well.

Small, eek re tyre. And just before Christmas when it's quite handy to have a few quid, I find.

JM, hooray re signs of progress on embroidery!

Oxeye, eek also re failed MOT and indeed speed camera situation.

Mary, how was school etc yesterday??

Morning all! Have a cuppa.
