Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

The lights dim, mellors emerges from the kitchen clad in nowt but a pinny. In his hands he carries a silver platter upon which rests a cake. A beam of light stabs through the hazy air ( nmbs are smoking incense again). A table with an empty cake stand is spot lit, Mellors places cake reverently upon the table.

Ladies, this is not just GF cake, this is "1st prize in the village show " Gluten free chocolate brownie with nutella frosting .

Tuck in. Its a bit good.

UniS · 23/10/2010 22:11

Melors returns to the kitchen and moments later appears at the door.

this do"

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 23/10/2010 22:14

Mellors clad in nowt but a pinny? The very idea. I may have to go and lie down in the priest's hole again.

Scout19075 · 23/10/2010 22:22

Well done, UniS!

UniS · 23/10/2010 22:31

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 24/10/2010 22:03

Ugh. Have just remembered that we have Dentistry to look forward to during half term.

I feel your pain about the car, Mary. I had a huge lump in my throat when I finally got rid of my cherished single-girl-about-town car. Are things moving on the insurance front?

UniS · 24/10/2010 23:19

Dentistry for teh Uni household in half term too. Not me, as I had a filling replaced only last week, but DH and boy both have check ups.

oxeye · 25/10/2010 00:43

DENTISTRY! Don't mention it We have just been. OxBoy was complimented and given a big sticker. I was told to Try Harder and have 3 months of remedial brush work ahead Hmm

UniS - does your shoulder catch or click? May be muscle, may be rotator cuff. Try hot and cold alternating on sore bit. Hopefully JM will be around to help

oxeye · 25/10/2010 00:53

Mary, have just read back and seen about your car crash, poor poor you, hope you are feeling less shaken. Tis amazing how little perfectly working cars are worth. Our last one was offered trade in price that was less than the stereo Shock

CMOT how sweet - just seen your concern about my eating Smile Oxbloke is here until end of week so I am cramming in like a squirrel about to hiberntate

GRRR about teacher's lack of love for DS.

Unserpernt hope you have great time in France and second what Tea says

hugs to all, special gentle hugs to a Tangoing Amber Grin
and welcome back Small - we need to link you to some goo dMojo music but I am not so good at that....Grin

amberlight · 25/10/2010 07:59

UniS · 25/10/2010 08:06

3thumbedwitch · 25/10/2010 09:42

Hello all - have been off-radar for a week, away in Queensland having a great time.
The weekend was fab - met up with 2 of my English friends who also live out here, one has been in Brisbane for 15y and the other was in NZ for 5 and moved to Cairns last year. I haven't seen the former girl for 2.6 years, the latter for over 6! It was brill. We went to the Valentino Retrospective exhibition on the Saturday afternoon - lots of gorgeous frocks and some true monstrosities [hgrin]

Have read through everything but have brain like mushed cheese so won't remember much -
however:
UniS - get to a massage therapist and get some deep tissue massage done on your shoulder/upper arm. You could have rotator cuff issues in your arm, or it could be shoulder muscles. Either way, the best a GP is likely to offer is painkillers/muscle relaxants, steroid injections or a physio appt which could be months ahead - meantime your muscles get more set in their current "wrongness" and it takes longer and longer to fix.
Or you could try acupuncture [hsmile]

amber - glad that MrAmber is picking up and hope you can restrain him effectively.

Glad to see you all again and will try and catch up more effectively tomorrow when not so car-lagged.

MellorsYourGardener · 25/10/2010 14:10

Amber, my friend. I believe you have need of my services. If you would just wait a moment while I take off my gardening clothes and put on my lycra aerobics gear.

amberlight · 25/10/2010 14:18

Well about time too! Gosh, a gal could die of cold stood here in the stiff breeze from that doorway for a couple of hours, y'know!

this is of course to be used as a weight to stop the door to the gym from opening at inopportune moments*

Scout19075 · 25/10/2010 15:15

Has anyone had experience of giving a baby an inhaler? Did BabyScout still get some of the medicine with the mask over his nose & mouth but with him chewing on the bottom of it? He was breathing well with it over his face but was chewing, so wasn't a tight seal.... He wasn't scared by it and wasn't interested in me showing him what to do and seemed happy having it on his face and having the medicine.

UniS · 25/10/2010 17:27

tedonitis. bah humbug.

amberlight · 25/10/2010 17:49

Scout, not a clue re BabyScout and the inhaler situation, alas.

Tendonitis? Arrgh. Have a Mellors for an extra massage...

Scout19075 · 25/10/2010 20:37

That's okay, thanks though, Amber! BabyScout did really well with it just before bed and I am confident medicine went in.

Bah! on the tendonitis front, UniS.

Sounds like a fab break, 3thumb.

No swimming tomorrow because of half-term. I probably wouldn't have taken BabyScout anyway, because of his chest.

Fifty-two weeks ago today I was spending the night at the hospital after being called in for an induction but they were too busy to do it. And they wouldn't let me go home "just in case." Argh! My first experience in a UK hospital was to have BabyScout and I was in five nights and should have only been in two (three if you count my overnight labor). At least they were good/kind/helpful and I was confident I was getting quality care. I also know the head of the post-delivery ward, but the midwives, etc., didn't know that. They were just very cautious because of all of my health problems.

BabyScout received yet another birthday package today. I am touched at the number of people who have sent BabyScout presents or have told me they have goodies for him when they see us in three weeks. I've even had Seniors tell me to give him birthday cuddles from them on his day since they won't see him this week (no meetings during half-term).

JBsMonsterMummy · 25/10/2010 20:58

Hello all - just a quick pop-in. (Is there anything warm and soothing/ alcoholic/ not necessarily one and the same going?)

Am still hobbling somewhat. My knee has moments of feeling just fine and then moments of being really bloody sore. I may, however, have overdone it slightly once or twice Blush. I don't think the surgeon had in mind going to a three-day seminar... yes, my very active physical work... :o He told me to take it easy and when we spoke on Friday, said that I could try getting on a stationary bike and seeing if I could get full range of motion of the knee. I honestly didn't have the guts to tell him that I'd been on my feet most of the week and had been, essentially, working. He's a bit of a grouchy old fellow so I just made a humming noise down the phone line and hung up as quickly as I could.

It's Jackbaby's second day at my friend's with the nanny. Last Monday went swimmingly and he was excited to go back today. I hope and pray he'll continue to be happy with the arrangement.

How's everyone? Apologies because I have not had time to read back.
xxJM

Scout19075 · 25/10/2010 21:03

Oh, JBMM, I'm glad to hear JB is relaxed and happy! Grin

MindySimmons · 25/10/2010 21:21

HI everyone, long time no post! Scout - miniMindy needed an inhaler for a very short period of time when that little and sounds like everything went exactly as it should with BabyScout. A great outcome is no being afraid of it and happy to sit there breathing away for a little while. Hope it helps.
Generally life is good and miniMindy is lovely - blatant trumpet blowing here but she can now swim on her own, lovely little front crawl going which is more than I ever expected under 4! Definitely got my dear Dad's swimming talent.

But feeling a bit blue as thinking about him a lot, will be one year since he passed away and predictably it's making me think about my dd and although I know it's completely pointless, useless and down right wrong to think it, have a little one child guilt about when we pass away. I know that in my heart of hearts, one is enough for us but I think just the psychological milestone of a year plus dd declaring she wants to be a sister is weighing on my mind.
