Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

Eek - how are you feeling Mary ?

Have a restorative brandy. And a hot chocolate

amberlight · 22/10/2010 10:34

How are you doing, Mary???

MaryBS · 22/10/2010 10:35

Not too bad, a bit sad and also anxious about how little I'm going to get for my car and what to do next. :(

amberlight · 22/10/2010 10:45

Have a very large cuppa and the tea room duvet. And a hug from Mellors.

MaryBS · 22/10/2010 16:20

Thanks. Anyone fancy a cookie?

amberlight · 22/10/2010 16:31

Now you mention it, yes....

Scout19075 · 22/10/2010 16:57

OOhhh, Mary. Are you okay? And I hope this doesn't cause upset, but if you need a lift anywhere give me a shout and BabyScout and I will come up and help. We're not terribly far from you and I don't mind.

Went to soft play again today. Some little girl looked at me as she kicked BabyScout in the face. He just looked at her like "Yo, what are you doing? I'm playing nicely in here!" I very calmly said "Please don't kick the babies, it's not nice." Oh, if looks could kill I'd be dead! Her parents were no where around. I'm sorry, but should three year olds be allowed to run around unsupervised in a public facility? Maybe I'll feel differently when BabyScout is bigger, but ARGH. I don't helicopter and tend to let BabyScout get on with things, but he's always in sight. I put him in the ball pit as he can't climb through the entrance, but then I sit on the side/outside the net to watch and he can see me, but I let him "play with" the other children, etc. I swear I was the only parent even on the edge of the baby/toddler area for AGES as all these 2-7 year olds ran around.

On a positive, though, one of the bigger kids in our group gave BabyScout some of his toys to play with and even offered to let him keep his ball. And by bigger I mean 11, so he knew what his offer meant.

MaryBS · 22/10/2010 17:46

Thanks Scout, thats really lovely of you :). I think for most things, we'll be able to manage - good news from DH is that his firm aren't going to ban me from driving his company car (they've done it with some partners/spouses after accidents), and other than that, if I were stuck, I'm sure friends would help out. If not, its the bus for me, I guess!

Eeek! Re: 3yo. That seems to be fairly common at soft play centres, let the toddler run around in a safe environment, although I tried to keep an eye on mine. That's lovely what that boy did too! :)

UniS · 22/10/2010 19:02

evening all.
Are there still cookies on offer? yep please.

Yep, GF cake class in teh village show, I think there is at least one GF mover and shaker in the village, village events always seem to include GF cakes and teh shop stock a good selection of Mrs Crimbles finest.

Todays burnt offerings are boys toffee skittles cornflake cakes. he hasn't a chance as hes having to compete in the under 9s in baking but hey, they will be distinctive most children do chocolate cornflake cakes and very few will chose to pepper them with sour skittles.
I'm going whip up some cheese scones once Dh is out way at pub.

DH was meant to be entering an air fix model in the show along with a number of other pub drinkers.. but he got 4 instructions in and gave up ...

So when teh NMBs swing by in a VERY badly built airfix tank... you can be sure they got teh bits from here.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 22/10/2010 21:02

Off to France now - what to wear was the Big Problem for me. See you all soon!

CMOTdibbler · 22/10/2010 21:26

I love the idea of an airfix class Grin

Since ds didn't need help to do things at softplay anymore, I let him go off on his own. Its the joy of those places that they can run round madly without you, and you can get stuck in things if you aren't careful too Blush. But ds does know not to enter the babies bit

How are you now Mary ?

Have a lovely time Serpent

I don't think ds's teacher likes him v much. She really can't understand that ds cares not a jot for stickers, peer pressure, and even when things he loves are removed (like forest school) he will not show any upset at all. Since he is Just Like his father I am used to this, and forget that it is apparently not normal

Scout19075 · 22/10/2010 22:43

Happy journey, Serpent!

I don't mind the big kids (school age) running around on their own but this girl was barely three. She was chattering away to herself and I couldn't understand her. I think it was the amount of "undersupervised" babies (18 mos - 3 yrs) that bothered me. I also had to laugh -- as I was leaving, carrying BabyScout, one of the workers came up and asked me if the Star Wars DS game she was holding was BabyScout's. In fact, she sort of held it in front of him while saying "Is this his game?" He's a BABY ffs. sigh.

Off to see my Nan-in-law tomorrow. Her 94th birthday was this week. We're meetng up with my PiL there. It means I can finally get my four generation photo for BabyScout's paternal side (we have one for my side already). Grin

UniS · 22/10/2010 23:11

are you SURE you want to go to france this week serpent?? aren't they revolting over there?

amberlight · 23/10/2010 08:44

They are revolting in France, definitely Shock. Friends were heading to France and have decided against it, due to the riots and the complete lack of fuel in some bits(therefore no transport).

94th birthday, Scout? Wow! That's an impressive age.

CMOT, sounds like the teacher is having a tricky time understanding your splendid ds. Does she have another other cunning plans?

Mary, how are you feeling now??

Morning everyone - tea and coffee on.

CMOTdibbler · 23/10/2010 09:28

We have made suggestions Amber, but she doesn't entirely seem to get them. I fully accept that dh is almost certainly aspie, and I score highly on the online aq test, so therefore ds was certain to have our traits, but she is so negative. It was lovely to bump into his pe teacher yesterday who was all 'wow you were fantastic today' in a way his class teacher never is. In spite of saying that he is very bright and his reading feedback book being full of top marks stickers

Bacon butty anyone ? May take ds swimming after he has been riding. He is all 'we're going to be off the lead rein again' and big grins. And has just been showing me his stuff from ballet this week clad only in ballet shoes

amberlight · 23/10/2010 09:42

Negativity is definitely Not Handy. You've probably contemplated asking for a diagnostic assessment and decided if it's worth it or nor, but it might be. At least that way they have no option but to take it more seriously?
Bacon butty would be great.
Grin re his ballet performance. Mine's still learning the Tango for his part in the Evita musical, which is a bit traumatic for all of us to contemplate. Especially since he keeps trying to practise with me!

Scout19075 · 23/10/2010 12:16

Aren't they always revolting in France?

Scout19075 · 23/10/2010 12:17

D'oh! I didn't mean that the way it sounds..... Blush

Aren't the French always protesting something?

That sounds more like what I was trying to say.

MaryBS · 23/10/2010 12:41

That teacher sounds horrible CMOT. She is paid to do a job, and it sounds like she is not doing it!

Am OKish, still nervous at the thought of getting another car. Also feel very tired and lethargic, am not sure if this is because of the several gins I had last night, the wheat-based diet or the aftershock of the accident!

On the plus side, I cleaned up at the village charity sale! With £2 worth of tombola tickets, got 2 bottles of nice red wine, a makeup set and a handbag for DD, and a travel toiletries set! And bought DS a bike he can scoot around on, for only £3, hopefully it'll encourage him to want to learn to ride!

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 23/10/2010 18:19

Hello everyone. Would anyone like a Saturday night Bolly?

CMOTdibbler · 23/10/2010 20:15

Bolly is always most welcome. Would you like some olives with it ? And a hug?

I don't think there is any need for an assesment of ds - his speech/language are fab, he has lots of imaginative play, and interacts ok socially. He's just a bit quirky (generally in a lovely way), but he gets totally engrossed in things so really doesn't hear you, doesn't deal with things not going properly (like making a mistake in his painting - will scream and throw it away), and is a bit impulsive. He just needs to learn more tools for managing most of these, and dh needs to model good behaviours more Hmm

DS and his friend wanted to be together after riding, so we had a two child lunch and walk round the cathedral. It's always funny having two with you !

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 23/10/2010 20:44

Thanks but no to the olives. Twiglets on the other hand ....

Cheers!

CMOTdibbler · 23/10/2010 20:49
ASmallBunchofFlowers · 23/10/2010 20:51

Oooh, yummy!

Scout19075 · 23/10/2010 22:06

I'd quite like a photo of a twiglet/cheese/pineapple hedgehog....
