Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

for you too, AandO. Anything in particular you'd like to find in the priests' hole?

I might join you. I let DD take DS (aged 9 last week) to the park to play. First time without me. Was ruined by some older kids making fun of him. They had the sense to come home early :(

Scout19075 · 30/09/2010 18:42

Gosh, we're all having crappy weeks. Can we just start over?

Scout19075 · 30/09/2010 19:34

Oxeye, Happy (belated) Birthday. Hope it was a good one.

amber, hope things are okay.

thumb, BabyScout LOVES his (my) computer. Too bad he's figured out that his keyboard isn't attached and gets very cross when he thinks I'm trying to fool him with his keyboard.

JBM, ohhhh, is the offer of the toddler carrier still there? If so, yes please! BabyScout is too big for his BabyBjorn and is too long for me to carry him comfortably long distances. Can I send you money or extra treats in your parcel? If easier, you can send it to my parents' in the States as I'll be there mid-November (and seeing as it took four weeks for the Royal Mail to deliver the other, the two extra weeks wait isn't a big deal!).

AandO, what can I pass you down the priest hole?

I still haven't seen a request for the other site -- I keep checking.

Be back after dinner.

oxeye · 30/09/2010 20:15

boohiss to things going wrong

Mary how tough that the first Great Expedition wasn't wonderful but it sounds like DD and DS were very sensible

AandO here is gin lowered into the priesthole

Thumb will look at friend on link not my line at all but poor her

Scout, I'd love to mail you the Hippychick. FB me your parents' address and I'll zip it off next week. Trade you for some extra Galaxy bars with roasted hazelnuts :o

I'm in work and today's a smoking busy day. I'm actually not feeling too badly, all things considered - Jackbaby has a rotten cold, dry cough and explosions of snot. He fell asleep on me at 6 pm yesterday from sheer exhaustion and we thought it was going to be a terrible night because when he falls asleep that early, he tends to be wide awake and in play mode in the middle of the night. He did wake up at 1:30 am and was awake for about an hour, snuffling and cuddling, but not in an annoying way. Would it be too terribly PFB to admit that I slept mostly sitting up, cradling him in my lap because that was the only position in which he could breathe easily? Blush The few times he rolled off me and was lying down flat, his nose plugged up and he had to breathe through his mouth and started coughing, poor little man.

Oxeye - what you said about my parents being here was spot on. "We want and don't want", and the role-reversal thing. Thank you, that made me feel a lot better.

And thank you to the rest of you for all the hugs.

Do any of the rest of you ever wonder what you'd do without the TR?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/09/2010 21:33

Yes, Oxeye, you are often very wise. Smile Your comment made me realise why I go into instant meltdown when I am trying to do some tricky negotiation with AP and Wriggle at the same time - I cannot be in both roles at the same time and actually implode.

CMOT, wise flying person, I am charged by SmugFriend to help her find a flight from Barcelona to Alicante next Saturday at about 8pm, but it appears impossible. (She doesn't speak Spanish and feels that somehow my Spanish affiliations will ensure my success.) Such flights don't seem to exist, but surely this can't be true? Any ideas how I can find one?

teafortwo · 30/09/2010 21:37

France is back on form today. I went to pick Milk up from a playdate and ended up being invited for dinner with veeer good company, wine and cheese!!! Grin

teafortwo · 30/09/2010 21:40

serpent - our day at yours sounds sooo dreamy. Just reading it gave me a holiday. Thanks!!!

CMOTdibbler · 30/09/2010 21:45

Iberia have a flight from Barcelona to Alicante at 21.10 for E77. My tactic when I don't know what there might be is to go to the airports website, and look at the destinations and who operates them

UniS · 30/09/2010 22:01

evening all. net book, so wil be quick.

CMOT- parcel is shaping up, but not all done yet.

I had a very enjoyabe day shopping today. Not for clothes, which i hate doing, but for stuff. lakeland, the range ( craft section) several charity shops etc. Sods law, the one charity shop to have any of the welly sizes i wanted ( had all of the infact) was teh last one i went to. I'd have spent much less on books and knitting needles if I'd gone to that one 1st. doh.

Hot choc for me, and the choc box of requiremnet is coming round. Mines a dark choc covered marzipan brick.

how bout you.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/09/2010 22:07

CMOT, can you give me a link? I don't fly and therefore cannot find my way round at all. That would be exactly what she wants!

teafortwo · 30/09/2010 22:09

Seriously UniS... you knit?!? Grin

oxeye · 30/09/2010 22:14

JM, Unserpent - thanks for your kind words Blush
You see, I was lured back (clever Small)
Yes, I often wonder what I'd do without TR - it's a constant friend
Bolly, chocolates and flight details in one evening - where else Grin

JM, I have spent many nights in weird and hideous bed contortions to suit Oxboy, but then I can sleep easily anywhere Hmm

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/09/2010 22:18

CMOT, I found the flight you mentioned on a catalan list of flights from Barcelona airport, but when I got onto the Iberia website, it wasn't there. Hmm How does anyone ever manange to fly anywhere????

UniS · 30/09/2010 22:33

yep i knit, not very well, i'm only a newbie.

tonight, i'm making a robin hood style hat, but in black felt not green. will be part of my prince charming costume. thank goodness for the internet

( and web tuturials)

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/09/2010 22:43

Noooooooo! I have spent so long trying to find flights for someone else that I missed the bidding on Wriggle's new winter coat. Sad She has a winter coat but it is grey and does not make her happy. Sad Off to bed now - I think I have your cold, Tea. Shock This is me sneezing with my poor sore throat.

teafortwo · 30/09/2010 22:44

I am in awe!!!!! Bravo UniS!!!

(My new image of UniS is UniS on a unicycle knitting using one hand and teeth, infront of her she has cakes and cider that are on spinning plates. With one hand she is Mumsnetting on a laptop which is obviously balanced on the feet of a circus elephant who is doing a handstand and wearing a pointy red and gold hat but in a not showing off kinda way.)

RS - IHNI (I have no idea) but for being bossed around by 'friend' again.

The tearoom is basically my prozac! Grin

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/09/2010 22:51

Well, not totally bossed around, as I see my time as an investment when she starts her pony rides and reindeer petting business, which I think will be Wriggle's idea of heaven - I kid not. She really is buying reindeer and bringing them to Somerset.

But sad that I forgot my daughter in the heat of the chase for a flight. Although I have never spent as much as £25 on a piece of clothing for Wriggle yet, so I would probably have dithered and lost it anyway. I wish I was decisive!

Glad you are feeling better - now you know that your cold has found a good home.

UniS · 30/09/2010 22:53

was it that obvious i was typing one handed. sorry.

I fear my costume making skills will continue to be tested, this village seems to have plenty of opportunities to " dress up", its carnival in 3 weeks time. then bonfire, then nativity, then new year down the pub.. etc

choc box going round again. This time I'm going for a dark with mint crunchy bits chocolate orange.

UniS · 30/09/2010 22:59

seppent- Commiserations on teh coat, you would have dithered tho. its not really worth utting a 30 quid coat on a kid who will lose it or trail it through mud tho is it.
Bragin hunters every where-
rejoice with me over 3 pairs of wellies for a 5er

oxeye · 30/09/2010 23:11

well done welly UniS and loving your village life
I think I shall come and trawl the charidee shops of somerset and dorset ours are all "Boutique vintage" stylee and the charidee things are more than I would pay for anything anyway....

I did however get Oxboy a grand pair of OshKosh shorts for £2, totally lush, and currently so HUGE they are almost trousers so will last years!

Unserpent, you wouldn't like the coat anyway and yes, a night chasing flights in exchange for a reindeer is time well spent!

thumbwitch · 01/10/2010 00:57

Serpent - console yourself with the thought that it probably wouldn't have fit right, or stank of mothballs or something. If wriggle's grey coat does not please her, can you jazz it up with some pretty bits? Maybe tack on some coloured lace from the bargain bin at a fabric shop? or, if not lace, some other pretty fabric? Or is that totally unfeasible?

Oxeye - the main charity shop here is the Salvos (sally Army) and I was ShockShock to see a chest of drawers in there for $500!! I even asked them if there was a decimal point missing but they said "no, we get a lot of antique dealers coming in so there's no point us missing out" - which was a fair point but still a bit of a Shock.

I shall add to the chocolate box of requirement - dark chocolate with raspberry centre - my Dad got me some lush chocolates from a very gorgeous chocolate shop in Lincoln and they had this particularly fine example of heaven-in-a-chocolate in the selection. MMMMMMmmmmnmmnmnmnmnmnmmm...

CMOTdibbler · 01/10/2010 07:57

Try here Serpent.

Would Wriggle like a bright red duffel coat ? Tiddlers last years coat no longer fits him, so she would be v welcome to it

UniS · 01/10/2010 10:42

Thanks to the bargain wellies ( Force, Cancer Charity, shop in Heavitree Exeter, they price to sell and its a right ole warren of a shop.) I can now kit out all the nieces and nephew for wet walks on the moor next week. and I won;t have to buy boy any more new wellies for a few years. He is in size 11, the new ones are 13, 1 and 4.

Tis chucking it down today, might make this afternoon a sitting on sofa with boy watching shrek sort of afternoon.

I just found a treacle toffee in the choc box of requirements, hurrah.
